Well I finished Neon Genesis Evangelion. Still think Elfen Lied was a better old show.
In what ways? My memory on EL is a bit fuzzy but I'm struggling to think of any element it has over Eva - everything from writing, characters, performances, music, action, ambition, even just the animation is plainly better in Eva imo. It's like if Kubrick directed a cartoon and all the talent lined up to pull it off.
Though I still have to watch the two additional movies, so Ill see if it can redeem itself.
Death & Rebirth is an unnecessary recap put together as a psuedo-fundraiser so I wouldn't bother with that, but The End of Evangelion is the crown jewel of the franchise and probably the most essential part.
If you're not burnt out there's also a series of remake films with some of the best animation I've ever seen, while being more pared down and action focused. Younger viewers and newcomers seem to vastly prefer the Rebuild versions, but personally it lacks a lot of the artsier elements that make the original stand out against every other mecha anime.
2.0 especially is really fucking good though and it deviates from the original enough to keep you on your toes.
