I recently got the entire collection of Pimsleur's Japanese lessons, I'm like 10% through so I can ask and answer basic tourist level questions "Hi, how are you? I'm fine, where/what/when do you want to eat, wheres this that etc" I'm not at the point where I don't need subs haha but then again I'm a pretty entry level anime watcher, I have maybe 15/20 shows under my belt, I know people here for example have watched a lot more so I wondered how common it was among you guys to actually attempt to learn the language.

I know the Joyo Kanji, and am studying Jinmeiyou Kanji, and I can read Japanese wikipedia articles and raw manga, though sometimes I have to think for a while to understand what a sentence means or look up a word from the dictionary. I can watch some anime shows without subtitles but that depends on how difficult the language used is, and my hearing comprehension isn't perfect either, so I still need to study more, but I'm hoping that in the next 4-5 months I could reach fluency/near fluency in the language, since I'm learning at quite a good pace and I spend a lot of time on studying. My older brother also said that he'll take me on a trip to Japan after I graduate from high school so I can interpret for him.

Quality Stuff!... If any anime artists are interested in making a "Go Candy" speed drawing video, I'd be cool to upload to my channel and link your site...

Damn, how far into high school are you? Also did you take Japanese on your own or part of school?

I really want to learn Japanese, but I have no idea how I will do it. All I know in Japanese is my name.

3rd year, I'm on overtime because of neglicence towards studies, and I studied everything on my own, I feel like in classes they would probably just teach really basic level stuff.

As in the US where a 3rd year would be in the 11th grade or anywhere else where it is a senior. But still that's wicked impressive. I'm jealous, I've never been good with languages

Quick questions for leader of this operation.
Can you name two Momos from different series?( Tell me the series.
Who is the manga artist on Earth or outer space

Response to Anime Club 2013-02-25 13:52:05

To the leader of this crew, thanks for making it. For me, anime shouldn't be watched just cause it's anime. It's gotta have a compelling story, worth-while characters, great direction.....basically, it needs to be so good that if it were made in another format, it'd be just as good. :)
Some of my personal favorites are:
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Soul Eater
Ghost in the Shell (Original, 2nd gig, and stand alone complex)
Death Note
Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagann
Code Geass

But here's one I wish was a longer series: Fooly Cooly.

I never really liked FLCL, I don't know why but I never found it as good as everyone else said it was

It's certainly a very odd, and different anime, but I think that's what made it so appealing. :)

I can tell you right off the bat that's a bad idea, this is just my experience, but FLCL was probably one of the worst anime series/OVAs I've ever seen. It's one of those anime that pretends to be something it's not, and try to cover it up with pretty colors and a hard rock music. {although I will say that the music isn't half bad} In other words, the opposite of Evangelion, but much worse.

Hell, that OVA is hardly relevant in Japan at all, {from what I know} as most of it's popularity pretty much came with the Western audience only.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

@Orangebomb Agreed, plus, I really don't see how it's themes would appeal to a Japanese audience (culturally) anyway. :P

I've read the FLCL manga but I honestly could not make sense of a single page in the entire thing. I assume I need to watch the series to understand it, but the reason I tried the manga in the first place is because I found the anime hard to follow.

I thought the series ended too abruptly which is why I didn't like it. it was only 6 episodes I think

I'm just gonna bump this I suppose

I finally got finished with LotGH and it's easily the best anime i've watched from beginning to end. It would be difficult to hold every other show I watch to its standard but it's probably the only anime whose generally sluggish pacing I can excuse.

How many episodes does it have?

I haven't watched it but it has Shiozawa Kaneto in it so it's probably good. That man had the coolest voice ever.

110

It's a pretty massive series but there isn't a bad episode in it.

I don't think your suppose to understand the series at all. Nothing is related to anything, there's no chain of events, all you have are characters and barely a setting. Im pretty sure it's suppose to be symbolic or something. You can follow individual episodes, that's the least I can say.

I'm just a dreamer.

We still have a leader?

I thought we gave that stuff up long ago once this club became a self-sustaining juggernaut.

I'm lumping it in with the same as all the past new comers posts. Just reading the first few pages and thinking we have a leader or a figure head. Hell, most clubs these days don't have one or it's a resident mod since there are so many now unlike in the past.

Though, those of us that have been around for a long while still do have some pull. 'Some', not a lot if any though.
