Watched Summer Wars. Had to turn off the logical voice in my head, but it was pretty good.
Now watching Now and Then, Here and There. About to start episode 4, and it doesn't get any happier does it.

A lot of people seem to really hate the second season. It definatly takes longer to get interesting, but it gets really good after the first few episodes. I think people might have just been dissapointed that it wasn't as heavily focused around Hei.
The OVAs weren't all that great though. The animation was excelent, but it seemed pointless and poorly written.
I watched The Cat Returns this morning. A little too short, but it was a fun little fairy tale of sorts,
Cat Returns was one of the first ghiblis I watched after Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. I loved Tim Curry as the antagonist cat.

Why you didn't watch 'Whisper of the Heart' or any of the earlier movies before that is beyond me.
I loved Tim Curry as the antagonist cat.
But I agree with this, I really enjoyed the english cast in particular. Peter Boyle as Muta was pretty cool. Reminds me that I still have Ocean Waves to watch in terms of non Miyazaki Ghibli. Not really sure what to expect since it's one of their more obscure films, and I hear mixed things about it. Also managed to grab some of Takahata's early work, like Prince of the Sun.
Also starting LOGH. Not as cumbersome as I thought it would be, fairly enjoying it for only being 5 episodes in.

I thought it was way too long. I couldn't wait to get away from that boring film.
Finished Now and Then, Here and There.
That was the most depressing "happy" ending I've ever seen.

Yeah, it ended up on a pretty bittersweet note, I think I first watched it all in one night. That was one of the more involving short series that I've seen. Beautiful stuff.

I didn't find The Cat Returns boring at all. I found it very enjoyable. It was really cute and it had a nice story line imo. Just finished up Gankutsuou it was a fun show. Pretty interesting twist on The Conte Of Monte Cristo. Everything looked beautiful but I found some of the textures in it a little bit too dominant to the point where it was taking my attention away from the actual show. Didn't care for the singer in the intro music either but that doesn't really matter much.
Not a full list, but here's a Summer '11 chart:

Finished DtBS2. I enjoyed it a lot, not sure why people hate it so much. I guess it's because the main focus was on a 'single' plot line [instead of mini-arcs that S1 is composed of. Though you could separate S2's story into two separate plots [Shion/Suou and Hei/Yin], so using 'single' isn't good enough) and drama, but it still had quite a bit of good action scenes throughout. And also this,

Not too disappointed at the ending, it was good. I still prefer season one.
Gonna watch Martian Successor Nadesico next.
As someone who really didn't go crazy for yin in the first series, I quite enjoyed the second series.
As for the summer charts, usagi drop maybe, but will wait for more info on the serieses before i choose anything. i meanspring hasnt even started eyet

Look at the post date lmao. Anyways just watched Gurren Lagann after putting it on a back burner for a few months. Wasn't a bad anime but it kinda got boring at times. It was very predictable and I feel that I have watched it before if that makes sense. It just shares a lot of elements with other mecha animes which I think makes it kinda boring. In the english dubs Nia sounds like starfire from teen titans.

That was the entire point of TTGL. It's a love letter to SR/mecha tropes and cliches. And it almost brought back the same spirit that Gunbuster had(thought not nearly as good).
I literally spent my entire day today watching Baccano because I had nothing better to do and could not bring myself to stop.
So many great characters and the way it ends suits that perfectly.

Yea im not a huge mecha fan or anything thats probably why I didnt care for it. Then ending of it made me lol a bit but thats about it. I kinda wanna see something thats animated beautifully, doesn't drag the story on forever, and makes me think but im starting to think this does not exist.

I'd love a second season, though I doubt it'll happen for a while, if at all.
Three of the novels have been translated so if I want my Baccano fix, I can read those. Not sure how fast the translations are going, but it seems like most are either dropped or on a hiatus (you have to wait for quality, y'know).
If only I wasn't a lazy faggot, then maybe I'd learn more nihongo to read them.
Good news! They're making an Akira remake and...Oh...Hahaha, nevermind.
This too will pass.
Memento mori

Wanting gorgeous animation is fine, but that shouldn't be your only reason to watch stuff.

My god the levels of butthurt in that article are just staggering. He's just grumpy that his precious akira is being remade and jeeeeez. I mean some of the comments are just retarded. Does Tokyo have that much weight tied to it or is it just that it's the biggest city in Japan, the country where Akira was made? In the same way that many disaster movies happen in NY or LA, Akira happens in a city that the target audience can relate to.
