My friends just bought a a DVD of the first volume of Hellsing Ultimate. Can someone specify what the difference is between just Hellsing, and Hellsing Ultimate? Cheers.
Also while i'm here, is Lucky Star worth watching at all?

Woah, what the fuck, I didn't even realize you were discussing Hellsing. My question was purely coincidental.

I just finished watching it literally last night, and I don't think I can answer that question.
Your mileage probably depends on how much you love haruhi I guess.

and apart from all the blatant references it's pretty much like azumanga daioh in terms of content, humour, etc, so just go off that.

Same here. I got a bit further but not much, I think around 8. The plot intrigued me as did the multiple realities/playthroughs type thing going on but I really just didn't care about what happened enough to sit through twenty five minutes just to hear one or two little nuggets of information about some character I didn't care about.

That really depends, If you can understand the otaku jokes and references or if you love Haruhi, then go for it. Myself, I thought it was an okay series, better than Azumanga IMO, but not better than Haruhi.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
Checked out the first few episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
It's quite good, the production values are high, and it's got exciting action.
As I expected there is reasonably extensive use of that style of humour where the characters suddenly become very simple and stylised, 'super deformed'. As far as I remember that style was present in the original series, but this does it in such a way that I feel would be far more appropriate in a comic book than an anime (basically creating a scene that simply looks like a single panel in a comic book). It was the same with the Hellsing Ultimate series, I believe. That style of humour annoys me, but it plays second fiddle to the more serious focus of the majority of each episode so it's not enough to turn me off entirely.
The first episode was different to the beginning of the other series, but that difference didn't last long as the others have been fairly identical, save for minor differences in style and a few scene differences here and there. I can only hope that the series moves off in a different direction relatively quickly, as I don't have a lot of interest in simply rewatching the original with better animation and more annoying humour.
The humor is even worse in Brotherhood? I've only seen a couple episodes of FMA, but those goofy out of place moments get really annoying. The show seems pretty cool, though. I saw some good action.

Well honestly I haven't seen FMA for years so I don't quite remember what the humour was like in it. I just hate the comedy sequences in the new show that look like they've just ripped a panel straight out of the comic, which, for all I know, they may have done.

I haven't seen a lot of FMA, but I did notice that they tried too hard to make it funny. I'm really not a fan of that type of humor, especially when it feels really out of place with the rest of the series. I don't mind it when they try to lighten the mood in an anime, but a lot of times they do it in the worst possible way.
I thought Nijuuri-sensei was gay enough, but apparently he's also a pedophile!
Seriously, you don't strip someone naked and beat them in front of a whole class and expect them to believe it's because you love them. Goosh Goosh would be more humane.
My face when new Berserk chapter.
I just wish it had better pacing because updates are HELLA SLOW.
Just watched Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki based off of a friends recommendation. It would have been somewhat watchable if the voices where not so annoying. Kind of slow and I face palmed a lot during it. Not at all impressed.

Yeah, I heard about it earlier. I'll read it once I gather the willpower needed to go through the remaining volumes I haven't read (I'm on the tenth volume).
I'm reading Mx0 right now. It sucks that the manga was canceled because of low sales, though, because I'm really enjoying it.

Eh, I forgot to mention, but I also watched the second episode of Gundam Unicorn. It wasn't so bad; the animation was pretty good and the plot/story isn't terrible.
hey you guys when do you think Funimation is gonna get its head out of its ass and decide to let DirecTv and Dish to host their channel do you know how much win that would be?
Watched Occult Academy recently, not sure what I think. Fun enough but it got less interesting as the series progressed and Maya inevitably changed tack to liking the occult. Also the last three episodes were just what the fucking shitting fuck. Pretty much softcore hentai, a final fantasy parody, and an episode that felt so dull and tacked on the end it should have been a special. But some of the facial expressions and animations were absolutely hilariously well made, and maya in the first few eps at least was a pretty great character.

And it was an Epic day.
There's no time limit on adapting a comic.
Though I'd be more excited if it was traditionally animated, rather than that strange-looking cel-shading.

Well, I hated the humor and goofiness in the episodes I saw of the first series. I'll still probably watch both eventually, though. What I saw was pretty cool despite that. The sudden out of place goofiness in Hellsing Ultimate bothered me, too, but I still love it. I'm gonna start Soul Eater soon, and I heard it's like that, too.

I loved Tenchi Muyo and Tenchi Universe when I was 10. But I still remember it and that show must have annoyed my mom.

I've lost hope in Berserk being finished.
I don't know if you guys follow Bleach to any extent, but I've been reading the manga and at this point i'm considering just dropping it.
I honestly thought the previous arc brought it to an end, and yet here we are, a new arc is beginning. I don't want to spoil anything but at this point I don't think I can care anymore. I feel like it's being dragged on now, and that my desire to see it end will be trumped by how tired of it I am.

I have been watching the new episodes on AS, and I'm not too impressed about it myself. Bleach kinda went downhill for me after the Grimmjow vs. Ichigo battle. I have the same issue with the manga too, it's now getting a little boring.

I have similar thoughts myself, maybe I'll go back to D-Gray Man or something.

It's not even boredom, it's simply the fact that they had it set up like this would be the end and yet here they are, starting a new arc entirely.
SPOILER ALERT
I mean, he lost his powers, why are they still forcing this to keep going? It's ridiculous. They had a chance to end it and it might have turned out well. Now any ending will likely feel tacked on or awkward considering I find it hard to credit any ending other than him losing his powers and assimilating back into life.

I've tried D-Gray Man, but after 200 chapters of not understanding anything that is happening, I just gave up.

Yea i'm not really sure where they are going with this but its pretty uninteresting now that Ichigo lost his powers. I am gonna read the next few chapters and if i still don't like it i'm gonna stop reading it.
Even if you disliked some of the earlier episodes of Panty and Stocking, this one more than makes up for them. WHOLE EPISODE WAS BANGING, YO
By the way, are the new episodes of Haruhi Suzumiya worth watching? I loved the first season, but it seems like the newer ones are either hit or miss.

I dropped that show a long time ago. I don't know if they've gotten better or not, but the second season really turned me off from that show. The entire Endless Eight thing was a huge waste of time both for the fans and the creators of the show. I honestly feel bad for the poor animators that had to recreate the same thing over and and over.

I have seen a little bit of season 2, and I was somewhat disappointed so far. I really enjoyed the first season of Harhui's and Co. madcap antics, and I guess I was under the impression that the second season were only going to get better. I'm sure the creators were disappointed with the Endless Eight and the overall repetiveness of the 2nd series, but maybe the other new episodes might turn it around from here.
Overall, your mileage with the 2nd season will depend of how much you love Haruhi and her antics.

I guess I'll put it off for now and read the light novels instead. Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya seems like a good film, too, so I'll watch it when I've got a chance.

Yeah, the action was definitely the best I've seen in the show so far. It's going to be tough to surpass this episode.
I watched 'The Place Promised to us in our Early Days'
I think that's what it was called
I thought it was a good movie, but to be honest I think I was a little out of it cause I kept getting lost. It wrapped up nicely at the end though, and I think I got the gist of it.
I've also been watching more Darker than Black on Netflix and it's really a pretty good series. Has some very well choreographed fight sequences.

Speaking of Darker Than Black, Funimation really needs to get off their asses and release the first season on Bluray. Also, no more of this "volume" shit, release the entire first season all at once in a single box set.
I'm thinking of picking up Ideon after finishing up Golgo 13. Thoughts?
