I have the first ten episodes, but I still haven't watched it. The Professional was awesome, so I hope the show is as good.

You should do yourself a favor and see Golgo, you can't go wrong with a violent sociopath assassin that seems to have a lot of references to Christianity. Don't forget to read the manga too.

The animation's top-notch, the music is awesome, and the plot is very interesting (If a little vague). On that note, I'd like to know: Is the movie any good? I've heard it's very good, but other sources say it ruins the whole show.

I think the film is pretty lame, but I wasn't a huge fan of the show anyway. I only liked maybe 1/4 of the episodes.

It's just another episode really, a bit silly but no other comments really. It can be considered as episode 23.5 of the series anyway. If you like the series you'll like the movie, if you don't like the series you won't like the movie. I thought it was good fun at least.

Are you kidding me?

Cowboy Bebop has one of the best English dubs of an anime series. I found that every one of the main characters, except for Ed, was better in the dub.

This, a thousand times this.

The only reason I watch it in Japanese is so I can pick up words and learn them.

Reading subtitles is fucking dumb.

Dubs that are on par with the originals, if not better:
Cromartie High School
Cowboy Bebop
Rurouni Kenshin

I usually watch subs, but I also watch most of my anime late at night when everyone's asleep so with subs I can turn the volume down and not irritate everyone.

I generally prefer subs anyway but some series I did watch in dub (actually watched bebop in sub but I've seen a couple of eps etc in dub and agree that they're very well done)... I watched Black Lagoon, Trigun, Baccano, Gurren Lagann, maybe a couple of others in dubs... Those have all been pretty decent dubs compared to some stuff i've heard.

Whoa there, that's a little extreme don't you think?

Even though I prefer dubs, {partly because I want to understand the story and characters} Most of the time, the original Japanese mix are much more polished and professional than the English counterparts, which aren't exactly slouches themselves. And no, I'm being a hypocrite if that's what anyone is thinking, just simply stating an opinion here.

Why in the holy hell are some anime fans continue to bitch and moan about dubs and subs is beyond me, but I think we need to grow up a little bit.

The term "Cowboy" was clearly used as a synonym for "Bounty Hunter." Also, there was a guy on a horse wearing a ten gallon hat, Andy von de Oniyate.

You're fucking nuts. I often watch anime subbed, but some dubs are better, like Cowboy Bebop, Shin Chan, Lupin, etc.
But it sounds like the dub butchers stuff. The word "shit" is removed (And don't even go into that overly literal argument where "kusou" does not mean "shit"), the sound effects are crappy, and as I said everybody sounds flat except for Spike, and Ed is unbearable.

In all honesty, I heard the orginal Japanese audio of CB, and I thought it wasn't too impressive to me, most of the voices just sound too forced compared to the English dub. Cowboy Bebop was more targeted towards a western audience compared to a lot of other animes, so I would imagined the English dub would be more fitting than the original Japanese audio.

Everybody says it's a pain in the ass to read subtitles, but once I got used to it, I could read the words and watch the entire picture at the same time, and the moonspeak becomes unnoticeable because I'm sort of dubbing over it in my head. It sounds like I'm taking away from the enjoyment factor, but I'm really not.

I don't have too much of a problem with subs, but the main reason why I prefer dubs slightly over subs is so I can understand the story and plot better without having to pause or go back if I happened to miss anything important. Generally, I would watch the English dub first so I get the gist of the story and everything else, then go with the original audio the second go through.

Although, if the dub is generally piss poor, then I would simply avoid the dub altogether and then go the subs.

In the episodes I watched dubbed, shit wasn't said, because as I understand this is the same dub that aired on Adult Swim.

Then there's your problem. The DVDs particularly the Anime Legends Remix set, shit was uttered.

It was just edited for tv. not on the DVD.

I don't agree with any of that, though Ed is a little annoying sometimes. I think the voices are better in the dub.

Those people are lazy/stupid

Either way, the show is excellent, but I think the dub fits it better. I like to watch Samurai Champloo dubbed, too.

I remember enjoying it when it was on Cartoon Network, but I didn't watch the whole show. And looking back, Suzaku and his stupid talking bird were both pretty lame. I think that was the last arc I saw. But if you like dragonball or the early dbz arcs, you'd probably like Yu Yu Hakusho.

Actually, I might like to rewatch Dragonball sometime soon for the memories. I actually never saw the entire show. I think I lost track after that red ribbon army arc or blue ribbon or whatever.

At 10/27/10 09:23 PM, Blaze-Heatnix wrote: 1. Is Hellsing Ultimate separate from the series, or is it set in the future/past?

It's a remake of the series, only following the comics more closely. The first couple are the same as the series, but then they both go off and do their own thing.

Ultimate is also better.

2. Is Fullmetal Alchemist good? Which is better, the first anime or Brotherhood?

FMA is quite good. It gets a bit weak towards the end, and I hated the ending. But it's worth a watch

Apparently Brotherhood is mostly fanservice to fans of the comic, and the OTT humour can be grating, but it has higher production values. Apparently Brotherhood has more of a focus on the action, sacrificing some of the philosophising, and 'depth' of the original series. I've never seen it, though.

At 10/27/10 09:23 PM, Blaze-Heatnix wrote: For some reason, I'm not interested in Hellsing. I haven't even seen it, and it doesn't interest me. Maybe it's the annoyance of religion-themed anime always having a cross visible in every single fucking frame. But in case I want to watch it, I have the entire collection right at my house.

The main reason why is crosses are used as weapons for hunting vampires, and having an ultra-powerful vampire with 2 Magnum-esqe handguns helps a lot. By the first couple of episodes or so, they talk about less and less, and focus on nefarious Nazis. If you like blood soaked fun, then do yourself a favor and watch it.

1. Is Hellsing Ultimate separate from the series, or is it set in the future/past?

The original Hellsing series strays away from the comics after episode 2 or 3, whereas the Ultimate series stays a lot more faithful to the manga. I highly recommend the Ultimate series, it's much more detailed, much more bloody, and even has a Star Wars reference for some odd reason.

2. Is Fullmetal Alchemist good? Which is better, the first anime or Brotherhood?

Like Hellsing, the FMA original series split apart from the manga, entrenching itself in a philosophical meaning about sacrafice, meaning of life and other good stuff. Brotherhood, on the other hand, focuses much more on the action and the battles than the overall philosophy of the original series.

You can't honestly go wrong with either FMA series, but I would recommend the Brotherhood slightly more than the original.
