I thought this past week was really great.
Which series did it feature, what made it good?

Well I don't wanna mention the N word here but it really was a great chapter and saw the return of some of my favorite characters

The best One Piece arc ever ended on a great note and i'm still surprised they actually killed someone in the series for once.

Gin is finally in action in Bleach which is all I needed

Hitman Reborn is beginning an arc that already looks to be really good

Hunter X Hunter is heating up too, but i really want this arc to end already

It was a great week overall and I can't wait to see more next week

I wish I was a person with the patients to follow Monthly/Weekly Jump, I missed out on an early introduction to alot of the famous shonen titles I want to read like Bleach, Sandland, Dr.Slump and Yu Yu Hakuso. I even subscribed to Shonen Jump Monthly for 2-3 years during my middleschool years, but I never had the focus to appreciate or consistently read every series. Needless to say, I have alot of catching up to do.

Onemanga is a great database of Manga to read on the internet and updates come every week

I've read countless series on that site

I've read the WSJ, FMA, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (at least I am reading it currently), Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, Xxxholic, Eyeshield 21, Claymore, etc. It's a great resource but sometimes stuff gets pulled, like Gantz :(.

HunterXHunter is good right?

It's really good, sometimes the arcs are a little long winded but they're all good so it doesn't really bother me much.

The characters are good and the author likes to go deep into the mind of the characters during battles, especially in the current arc. It's a great characterization tool, to see what a character thinks in battle.

What's with the dirty furry burglars?

They're not furries; they're Tonzra and Boyacky of the Dorombo Gang (à la Yatterman).
They're both semi-playable in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (they appear during most of Doronjo's attacks).

I've been watching the 2008 series, and so far it's epic enough; I really need to watch the 1977 series (and maybe Time Bokan later so I'll get all the references).

Just watched the first episode of Desert Punk.

I didn't like it at all.

It was so full of that awful generic anime humour that I hate. Where it's centred around people suddenly screaming, pervy remarks about the female form alongside numerous 'fanservice' shots (though, in most cases I tend to find them a disservice), and over-explaining every bloody joke.

When will anime comedy writers learn that people can usually understand a joke the first time it is said? They do not need a person explaining exactly why what the last person said is funny.

There was one joke in the show that I found kinda funny, where one guy went into an outrage regarding a comment made about his mother. However, that joke was repeated somewhere around 10 times during the show. That's laziness.

I wasn't largely impressed by the action scenes either, but they were okay. Perhaps it's just not my sort of anime.

I'll give it one more episode.

Watched the second episode of Desert Punk. In English this time.

It was a lot better.

The voice acting wasn't as over the top in English, there was a distinct lack of shots of women's body parts, and it was actually funny at points.

That episode has rekindled my interest in the series.

Sup guys. I haven't been on here in a while.

I loved the first episode of heroman. It's exactly what I expected it to be off of the cover. Well, besides the main's gender. Srsly, I don't see the point in drawing him like such a girl. Currently waiting on arakawa under the bridge subs. YERRRRP

Hmm, how is it for a magical girl series?

You mean Sailor Moon or Pichi Pichi Pitch?
Both are good mahou shoujo series; Sailor Moon pretty much set the standard.
Pichi Pichi Pitch was good overall, but the voices were lacklustre and the soundtrack was cheaply produced; they could've used real bass guitars, strings and horns, but they skimped out and used synths for most everything. (Plus they took a few liberties and diverted away from the manga in several places, probably so it could be aired in the time slot it was shown in.)

And what's up with 4kids as mentioned in your other post?

There was a rumor floating around for a while that 4Kids was planning to buy the rights to Negima and redub it. (I heard this from a fellow Newgrounder several years ago; so far it's seemed bogus.)

If Negima is the same thing that I'm thinking of, that's rather bizarre.

I remember reading a manga volume of it. In one chapter, some girls were fighting over who 'got' the main character as a room mate or something, I don't know. And they were all in the changing rooms, so they decided "hey, let's have a breast size contest". And then they all compared breast sizes.

Then the main character made the main girls breasts grow and she won the competition.

That sort of thing may be the standard in Japanese kids comics, but I wouldn't expect to see it in anything kids orientated in America.

Maybe the cartoon is different. I don't know.

---

I just watched Ponyo. I thought it was great.

Very happiness inducing. Much like My Neighbour Totoro. Not quite as good as that, but still great.

The art was breathtaking, as is the usual for Miyazaki films. The English voice actors were great (as I watched it in English). Everything was good.

Not at all disappointing like that Howl's Moving Castle.

Just saw the first episode of arakawa under the bridge. Pretty boss. Heroman was pretty sweet too. Arakawa under the bridge had this whole SZS humor thing going for it. In a good way. Heroman turned out to be exactly what I thought it would be. In a good way.

I'm looking forward to this anime season.

I should give it a lookover, although, oftena good OST either makes or breaks the memorableness of a series for me. Does that mean the manga was the better incarnation?

Yeah, I guess you could say that.
I was only able to get my hands on 4 of the 7 volumes before Del Rey pulled it from the shelves, but from what I've read there were plenty of liberties taken (e.g. Nicola and Lucia run a bathhouse in the manga and a hotel in the anime) and there was quite a bit of sexual content either dumbed down or removed altogether. On a side note, there were plenty of Splash references to hold my attention.

If they're planning to edit it, dumb it down for 4kidsTv... that's going to either be really funny and/ or really stupid. Especially since it's supposed to be a sexual harem series. :P

As I said before, those rumors are mostly bogus, as 4Kids has been hemorrhaging money over the past few years and now fast being delisted from the New York Stock Exchange. There's no way in Hell they'd have enough money to spend on all the cuts, voices and stuff they're known for doing.

p.s. 4Kids TV no longer exists, as the company's contract with Fox expired in 2008; they now run The CW 4Kids (what used to be Kids' WB).

Man, I am sick of series based around a group of high school girls.

Now that I'm out of high school, I'd just feel creepy watching them. Not to mention high school girls going about their day to day lives isn't usually particularly interesting subject matter.

Man, I just finished the first episode. Blahhhhhhhhhh. It was a letdown. I don't remember if k-on was always like this, but parts were just very very boring. The op and ed were both worse than last season. It just didn't feel right for me. I think I'll stick to Working! for my moe this season. Actually thinking of dropping k-on. Depends on the next episode. Definitely won't rewatch this episode with subs.

Meh, it's anime. I totally get what you mean, but I kind of remember k-on being more fun than it is right now.

Next on my watch list is angel beats. Hopefully this is going to be better. I'm really hoping that it isn't another "11eyes" anime.
