Make sure it's the OVA, rather than the series.

Majority of the series was worth watching, but it got a little crappy around the end. Either way, I didn't like it is much as most people did. I still haven't even watched the OVA's yet, so I can't really give an opinion on them.

They've got all of the good parts of the series in them, only those parts are done better and more stylish, so there's no reason to watch the series.

In addition, they've got the great parts of the manga that were left out of the series.

The Black Jack OVAs need better pacing.

Each episode feels like it could be half as long.

Thanks for the recommendations. As for Avatar, its a mixture between anime and american cartoons. I only through it in because I like some of the ideas in the show despite it being for a generation younger than me and i didnt know if there was any other anime that may incorporate elemental manipulation. Its also on the list at animewoot so i thought it was classified as such.

Thanks nightmareLeecher for the sig.

Ahhh, that sucks, I backed all my files up before making the switch to Ubuntu. It is a great OS once you learn the ins-and-outs.

I've been watching Nadia and yes Disney did rip so much from this. Good show though, I did giggle at some of the sound effects too.

That's actually pretty surprising since most people I know have extremely ignorant views on anime. They all judge it based off what they've seen on Canadian TV, so they naturally have a negative opinion on it. I was expecting the negative to outweigh the positive.

You kidding? Do you have ANY idea how much sites like 4chan and Youtube LOVE anime?

Not to mention countless anime forums and fan sites.

Yes, there's a lot of anime fans, but there's also a large hatedom. Anime seems to be a ppretty polarizing question, love it or hate it, really.

TTGL is a great series IMO. It should at least be given a try by everyone who enjoys the mecha genre.

That's a shame, so young. Said that they believe he fell of the mountain side taking pictures. I hope it was a quick death for him. I guess you could say at least he died in natures hands.

Or watch an mecha show that doesn't get idiotic. Look, it was a good show certainly it was miles berter than FLCL and EVA but as a mecha anime, it's just good. Nothing extraordinary about it. Hell, even the Mech designs are derived from an older Tomino anime. For modern series I will say it is the best series going in the genre... well, aside from the new Mazinger. Bu you get the idea. I will say that people should give it a watch, but it doesn't live up to the hype and the ending falls into the category of being a Gainax Ending.

I'm gonna get into some SPOILERS here so avert your eyes people.

What was the point of saving Nia? Granted, she was my favourite character in the show so I was pissed at the ending. I was all "Yippee, we might get a happy and cohesive ending from Gainax that makes... sense... what the hell was that? You SAVE THE CHEERLEADER AND SAVE THE WORLD BUT SHE STILL FUCKING DIES? FUCK YOU ASSHOLES."

Yeah, that really brought the quality of the show down. But it was bullshit. But, I still have to say it is pretty good. But as far as mech series goes people would be better off finding Robotech and Gundam Zeta DVDs.

Response to Anime Club 2009-09-22 11:32:54

The thing with TTGL is the troo-fan mentality. "Real" mecha shows have mechas that (if someoen invented the necessary technology) would be able to be built from the models presented in the show. TTGL is Star Wars is to 2001 Space Oddyssey, an unrelistic, but much more entertaining option for the general public.

TTGL was more about the power of the human spirit and creativity than an actual sci-fi/mecha. The mechs were cheesy, and the bad guys just as, if not more so. But i loved the gung-ho attitude of the show, and the character developement was awesome. i just didn't like the second season. It just got too emo for me.

On another topic, anyone else seen Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei? :D

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me remember the name of an anime? It was about some kid who got psychic powers and he went around destroying the city. I remember the beginning was filled with clowns on motorcycles beating the crap out of some kid. Thanks if you can help me :D

I sense the hatered in you young one. A lot of mecha shows get stupid at a point. With this one it's the mind set of the viewer so the obvious comes into play. Extrodinary would be the OST and the animation. Hell, the idea of mechs the size of galaxys is pretty out there but I found it awesome as hell. It is one of the better series that has come out in the past few years involving mecha + story aside from Eureka 7. Can't say about the new Mazinger since I haven't watched it. What did you expect from Gainax though? They do this shit all the time.

Without saying 'LOL GAINAX'. I was butt hurt over that as well. Simon is my favorite so I can't say too much on Nias half. She is a great character but I didn't hold her too high. A few things about her that I can't quite put my finger on off set me about her.

Yeah, that really brought the quality of the show down. But it was bullshit. But, I still have to say it is pretty good. But as far as mech series goes people would be better off finding Robotech and Gundam Zeta DVDs.

Wonko pops in and out at times, same with MrTrivia. Kouga(LL-Starks) makes even rarer appearances. Tink has been MIA for.... years. Two if not more I'd say. But she's going through rough times like always. Says she'd stop in every now and then but that was then and this is now.
