For the heck of scrutinization I'll post what I've watched recently:

Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Howls Moving Castle
Jin-Roh
Kiki's Delivery Service
Steamboy
Tales from Earthsea
Princess Arete (I wouldn't recommend this, was a little boring)
Spirited Away
Tekkonkinkreet

Except for Princess Arete I think they're all quite fine.

Things I plan to watch:

Mind Game
Metropolis
The Wings of Honneamise
Whisper of the Heart

I recently watched Trava. It's pretty good. The story isn't too original, but it's pretty entertaining and funny and the artwork is great.

I also watched MD Geist and MD Geist: Death Force. I was expecting mindless ridiculous entertainment in the vein of BAOH or Violence Jack, something to get a couple laughs, but it wasn't even good for that. just plain shit. Although, I can recall one moment where I got a good laugh.

I also watched the first Spirit Warrior OVA, looking for the same kind of entertainment, which it did deliver a bit in the beginning. I think it's the first anime I've seen involving Nazi's, demons, ghosts, AND zombies. hahaha. But then it started to explain the main character's uninteresting backstory, sacrificing the laughable over-the-top goodness. I think I'll watc another OVA and hope for more Nazis, zombies, demons, and ghosts.

Also, one of the creatures in Spirit Warrior was a pretty likely ripoff of Ridley Scott's Alien.

I will likely be watching Angel's Egg tonight. I hope it's good. I might just rewatch Tekkon Kinkreet instead, though....

hell of a good list there, though I still have not yet seen Kiki's Delivery Service.

Mind Game
Metropolis

Both of those are great.

I never knew Howl's Moving Castle was so... tragic.

I'm torrenting it anyway. Great movie, and any of you guys heard of/ have watched Interstella 5555?

That Daft Punk musical?

I rented it from Netflix, and enjoyed every minute of it. Discovery is my favorite album, and they really pulled out all the stops to make the animation go hand in hand with the music.
D.A.F.T. the story of Dogs, Androids, Firemen, and Tomatoes wasn't quite as moving. It was just five separate videos for a chosen few tracks of the Homework album. I haven't seen Electroma, the movie that's based on the Human After All album, but I've heard that for some reason they didn't actually use Daft Punk's original music in it.

I love Leiji Matsumoto, but I find Daft Punk to be boring beyond words.

Great looking film, I have no idea what anyone sees in that music.

I know I'm not a member or whatever, but I wanna tell someone that knows what I'm talking about heh heh.

I was watching Paranoia Agent a few days ago because it's one of my favorite shows. I was watching my favorite episode, Happy Family Planning, where those two men and that little girl who talk to each other on the internet meet up irl to commit suicide. It's a really weird episode, and I've always wondered when exactly they killed themselves (eh, semi-spoiler if you haven't, but whatever) and I was watching the episode sorta carefully to try and see stuff I hadn't seen before.

And I noticed that when the two men ditch the girl because she's so young, and go into that building to kill themselves via sleeping pills and carbon monoxide poisoning, I saw that the girl was sneaking in from the window at the very beginning of the scene. I always thought that the episode was just supposed to be a total mystery like most weird anime, I had no idea they actually showed what happened, just really subtlety.

Why is it that a man can't hold another man's scrotum in the palm of his hand (as an act of friendship) without risking being called a member of the homosexual community?

Paranoia agent seems pretty interesting, i might check it out.
Also started reading Homonculus, it´s quite good.

Rewatching Escaflowne, and the show's aged pretty well.

Not like it's hard, though, given the dire state of both fantasy and mech shows.

On one hand, I want to see it, because I would think it's a very beautiful movie.

On the other hand, I know the ending is gonna be sad as hell (I don't know the specifics, but an anime movie set in end of WWII in Japan? I can hazard a guess), and I hate downer endings.

god, I was reading Nana volume 8, and just from reading it, I felt utter despair.

I don't know if it's linked to my weird feelings that I've been getting today. Or mebbe that certain things happened in that volume that, to a certain point, hit me like a brick.

ughhh.

Well, I thought it wold be one of those seriously happy films about magic or something.

Some of it a few years ago, I used to like Daft Punk back then but not anymore, I don't see myself ever watching it again.

It gets boring, but it's great to watch when you have absolutely NOTHING to do.

I had a dream last night that I was back in high school, and I don't know if this was like an actual event that happened at dream version of high school, or if we were watching something in what would amount to my grade 12 french classroom, but Guts had somehow caught on fire and was screaming and everything, and then he kind of melted and lost part of his skull and a few fingers, and sort of looked like a cheap-ass version of Clayface from Batman.

I felt the need to draw it out, so imagine this, plus the fact that it was like 1000x times creepier. And looked a bit more like Guts.

What's the general opinion on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?

You can start by listing your five favourite series. There are no wrong awnsers, except Naruto and Bleach. And Elfen Lied, depending who's patrolling.

Severely overrated.

Well animated and a few fine episodes, but not particularly funny or remotely smart.

Yes, Haruhi is more or less a physical god (or timewarp, or autoevolution), her unconsious powers make everything go like she wants it, but like any real person, what they want and what they need aren't the same thing, and she's just constantly angry, because there's no satisfaction in things just going the way she wants without having to do anything. She's basicaly a spoiled brat who just spoiled herself, without knowing it. I think there's something pretty deep, there.

Similary, Kyon (who, by the way, is the actual protagonist of the series) is an ungrateful cynic, and I think he's a Deconstruction of the First Person Smartass Deadpan Snarker archtype.

seems like I can't make a post about any show without refrencing TV tropes any more...

Hahaha, deep in a moe~ comedy.

I've read about three of the light novels, all the God stuff is really shallow and badly handled. Haruhi is a pretentious trainwreck in the storytelling department.

And even if it was deep and meaningful, I still wouldn't be too fond of having an obnoxious bitch being at the forefront of my silly comedy show.

I watched it well over a year ago.

And I never really did consider it to be very intellectual, nor did I find Haruhi particularly appealing.

Maybe if you posted more than once a century you'd know this.
