Well I've finished Raxhephon.
The story unfolded nicely. At the beginning I liked the idea of brainwashed Tokyo fighting the 'foreign' invaders with their century old weaponry, though that idea vanished quickly with the introduction of the Tokyo's 'secret weapon'. I forget the name they are given but basically the huge floating clay dolls. From then on in the series it was just frequent attacks by those dolls which reminded me a lot like Evangelion. My only problem with that really is that the fights were not that spectucular, I felt RahXephon concentrated more on character and plot development then action. Though that does not mean it was boring, Episode 19 "Blue Friend / Ticket to nowhere" was entertaining.
The characters were great, it seemed like everyone had their own story to tell and it was interesting to see the connections between people uncover as the series went on. The plot at first was confusing but cleared out as the series went on, but I only really understood it when I watched the movie which is basically a recap with a few bits added on.
I never noticed a drop of quality throughout the series so that was also a plus. Overall RahXephon is good, now that I have seen it I can say that I prefer it over Evangelion.
Oh and I very much liked this guy
