One of the reasons it doesn't live up to Cowboy Bebop, (y'know, since that was the comparison I heard before watching it).
Yup, as much as Black Lagoon is by far my favourite series of the year, I can easily admit it's far from Bebop's level of sheer awesomeness.
The other reasons being the less interesting style,
It finds its stylistic footing later on, but it's still no Bebop.
and the far worse music
I liked the ending theme and a few incidental pieces, but the rest is extremely hit and miss.
That said, I find a lot of recent animes have had lacking musical scores. Further still, Yoko Kanno's work on CB is the finest music I've heard in a television program.
(and too much of a concentration on killing, but that's excusable).
The violence is a bit over-the-top at times, but that sorta adds to the charm of the series.

This anime looks like my kind of anime! 'Black lagoon' is it? K whats it about so far in a one sentence summary so I have some idea.
Pirates in the South China Sea run afoul of crazed mercenaries, neo-Nazis, nigh-invincible maids, Triads and the Yakuza, much blood is shed.
So they(The manga and the anime) both have different adventages and disadvantages, which one do you personally think is better?
Between the TV anime and the manga, I give the manga the edge since it's got more convincing writing and a lot more variety.
But of the UY franchise, the first two films stand out as the finest works (both directed by the TV show's original director, a young Mamoru Oshii).
