For some bizarre reason I decided to acquire the Lucky Star game for the DS, "Shin Lucky Star Moe Drill ~Tabitachi~" ("New Lucky Star Moe (Sprouting?) Drill ~Going on a Journey" or something).
The game was in Japanese, as you can imagine, which would be hard enough if the game wasn't some sort of quiz-type test game.
I managed to get the general gist of what was going on in the cut scene segments due to my basic knowledge of informal Japanese, which involved some silly stories like a character saying something along the lines of "I want a job here" and expanding on that for a little while before inevitably resulting in some sort of quiz-battle between the characters.
There were about 4 different types of quizzes (that I saw, though there may be more), which were as follows:
1. A very straight forward maths game in which you had to type out numbers on a calculator (I was good at this one).
2. Some sort of game in which the game asks you something in Japanese, or gives you a sentence in Japanese and you have to select one of the Japanese sentences from the multi-choice options (I was bad at this one).
3. A game where you were given a fragment of (what I assume was) an anime/manga/videogame quote in English, and you had to complete it using the multi-choice options (I did well in this one, despite half of the English not making sense as questions).
4. Some bizarre game that I never quite got, that seemed to involve the game giving you a sentence in Japanese, and you had to choose whether it was tsundere, or tsunero, or deretsun, or whatever the silly Japanese Otaku slang words it threw at you were (I managed to get by in this because for some reason the majority of the answers were 'tsundere', 'tsun' or 'dere').
Through doing all this you can unlock things like costumes for the characters (like a maid outfit or something) in typical Japanime fashoion.
I got bored of the game reasonably quickly, since there's only so much homework-with-an-anime-twist I can take before I fall asleep.
