Gundam's a lot more Mech-like that the others. Evangelion's Evas are living beings and Transformers are living robots.

I'm getting into watching anime series's pretty much straight too much, since I just finished watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya.

I found it to be alot better than I expected it to be.

The whole idea set it up to be a particularly stereotypical sort of anime, but it ended up being a reasonably clever show.

I am pleased that it doesn't resort to using the irritating face changes and chibi scenes in order to convey humour.

Unfortunately, for a reasonable amount of the anime it does seem to do what a bunch of other anime's do in that its characters are so different that they just appear as caricatures of real people. Aside from Kyon and Haruhi.

But all in all, a good series.

It has also taught me to not underestimate Kyoto Animations.

Then the side product you want to stay away from (but might love nonetheless) would be Lucky Star. XD

But all in all, a good series.

Makes me glad that the news of other directors and studios doing the second season (if it will see the light of day) is an absolute hoax.

As for Mitsuo Fukuda, however, I admit that I really liked his earlier work "GEAR Senshi Dendoh", for it had a very good mix of powerful music to go along with the action. It's a shame that some sees that he messed up the second half of Gundam SEED Destiny though*. To me, he should have stuck to Super Robots all the way after seeing the success and fulfilling storyline of Dendoh.

* Personally, I think it's due to Gunpla demands.

Meh, I can handle chibi animation, such as when I watched Trigun, but it still seems to be a cock out on the writers part when that's the only humour they can do.

Sometimes I prefer my humour to be more subtle than randomly screaming "HEY THIS IS A JOKE, LAUGH AT IT" in my face.

Also, since Lucky Star has just been name dropped, and is on TV links, I might watch it.

I've never heard about that.

Also, I hope there will be a second season, and it does seem like it'd be a good idea for them to make one, considering it's supposedly the most popular anime in Japan or something.

It makes much more sense for those who have watched a lot of shows and play plenty of video games, especially the gags.

I prefer that it stays the way it is. The animation itself is excellent, but I do not see any further need for growth. If they want more Viral Marketing plans, then I demand a Mikuru cushion.

I'm sure there's plenty of room for growth on the series.

And even if it ends up sucking it's not as if you'd just start liking the first season less is it?

I like the chance of there being more good episodes.

That is what the novels are for. <_<

Actually, no. A bad conclusion is enough to make a good start go to waste.

Case in point or an example? Gundam SEED, for it had an average start, then it gets epic level battle'd near the halfway point, and then it falls victim to "Flashback 'em All Fukuda", and then it returns to plenty of awesome fighting and screenplay, and right at the end it becomes rushed crap.

And don't even get me started on "Gundam SEED Destiny".

I thought the anime was made as an adaptation of the novel.

Why exactly would adapting the novels further be detrimental to the series?

Do the novels suddenly take a turn for the worst after The Melancholy?

No, but I do feel that the generic 'ending' in the first season was at its peak and the rest should be left over for the fans to continue it in their own ideal way.

That tends to not be the case for popular anime.

Unless there's a clear-cut ending, then producer's would want to milk more money out of the fanbase.

But still, the anime would work reasonably well if it carried on with more standalone episodes.

Bullshit.

If you're referring to its unlimited regeneration and growth, there are far superior regeneration composites such as Organic Compounds (Brain Powerd), The Carpenters (GGG), Piza Sol (GGGF) and even the S^2 Organ (Evangelion).

That, and the Devil Gundam has one fatal design flaw; the main source of its attacks and weapons ( Mega Particle Cannons and Gundam Heads) are where its most vulnerable component is; the core.

I don't know, but I sure as hell have not.
It can get even worse; they'll just ban all sales and public displays of anything with the slightest amount of human blood or suggestive themes in it and outsource all local TV dubbings to 4Kids because of their ever-so-clean track record of making things safe for children.

And yes; I was being sarcastic because I know it can get worse and I know what terrible distances the American media will go to in order to 'protect their youth' via ignorance.

I am curious as well, but be patienty and stop spamming FFS.

At 4/29/07 07:29 PM, Akatsuki321 wrote: Pretty soon if they show an episode of an anime, for example someone slashing someone with a type of sword. Pretty soon no more blood when they cut someone, it will be candy or absolutly nothing will splurt out.

I will go with the latter option you have stated, but since this is America's Media we are talking about, so any horrid action which leaves the people with their heads above censorship waters (i.e. those who are not solely exposed to censored media) cringing in fear and terror can and will happen eventually*.

* Unless the parents suddenly realise what they have done and withdraw their complaints, but knowing mankind's nature, chances of that happening is practically (but not technically) zero.

To continue the rant a bit further, let me take the censorship discussion from a different tangent.

I believe some of you have watched the Walt Disney cartoons such as Steamboat Willie or the slew of cartoons which led after than. As some of you should be able to recall if so, there was plenty of cartoon violence such as fist fights and, quoting directly from Wikipedia, "how violent and misanthropic Mickey is originally". Sure, some can argue that it was before Walt Disney intended to give a more family-friendly nature later on, but even adult themes such as bars, cigar chain smoking and even the use of (unrealistic but threat-imposing) firearms.

So now you wonder; what is different from the world of 40+ years ago and the world today? Was it only because of the post-war mentality which made people not mind such elements in their entertainment so much, or was it even the opposite effect in which said events actually put some common sense in the parents back then but is now ignored and put behind us?

My opinion may change in the future, but I will make sure it does not differ from the main point of the following oath of courage: "When I become a parent**, I will take full responsibility for my child's well-being and maturity, regrdless of his/her media exposure. If he/she messes up, it is my responsibility, not the media's, not his/her peers' and certain-as-hell not the Anime and Video Gaming industries that we know and love."

** Not within the next five or six years anyway.
