Seconded/Thirded. I remember the one reason I started reading it was for the fan service*.

Same here, that's also why I started reading Video Girl Ai (back in 1998), until I discovered that beyond all the nudity there was actually a story worth reading.

Ranma was funny had action, romance and some fan service. Al through i don't like animes that relay on fan service. Not that Ranma did.

Sounds like how I got into Manga...I remember when I was sixteen and I saw Love Hina Vol. 10. I though, AHA! By reading ahead, I will see a lot of nudity and sex...yeah...I was wrong, but then I found myself hooked to the story, so I went back and bought the series, from start to finish. That's my story of how I got into manga...

Ha ha ha...damn I was messed up...

That's the only reason I started reading LH, but I soon realized it's true brillance.

hell yeah. I thought that MOLCOS robot thing was awesome as well.

I'd say the major weakness was the fact that the dub tried to "toughen up" Sengoku's lines by making him shout "fuck" or "cocksucker" every seven seconds. It got old real fast.

agreed. Did you have access to the original Japanese soundtrack, too? That's the one I have. I decided that I hated the English dub right at the beginning of the first movie.

Ha ha ha! Damn, I'm a changed person though, for me back then, anything that had to do with nudity and cartoons intrigued me. Along the lines of "Wow! This is new!". Oh well, I found out that the story is more important than that. Although stories like Crying Freeman, Wounded Man, Sarai (Yes, there's damn a manga by the name of Sarai, I've had it for three years now.) Sanctuary, Strain and many more classics blend the two very well. I loved Love Hina, shame it had a terrible Anime adaption.

Yes I did, but I decided to endure the crap dub for the sake of lulz.

Yeah, it was so flawed that it was unwatchable.

Day Two wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I showed up in my official staff t-shirt and found out that my services were no longer required, but it did get me free pizza. I got my ass kicked at Tekken 5 in the game room, attended a panel on racing anime, watched the first three or four episodes of Ronin Warriors and pointed out how cheesy it is with a fellow otaku, and sat through a bunch of trailers for Metal Gear Solid games before calling it quits a full 5 hours ahead of schedule. On the plate for tomorrow are four panels; "The History of Metal Gear", "Inuyasha: Down the Well", "Seig Zeon! The Mobile Suit Gundam Panel", and "Reaping Souls: The Bleach FanPanel". After that, I'm going to make more space for my DVDs and figures and look forward to Ohayocon Eight.

Anyone else ever decided to take a nice walk, read a volume or two of your favorite manga, perhaps under a nice shady tree, only to have some scary chick scream "YOU WILL SIRE MY CHILDREN!!"(either to me or someone else, I ran before I actually looked back) for some reason I'll never know

Anyways, Love Hina was my first anime(which I saw before I read the manga), and I only found out about it due to me and my other pervy friend looking for cheap internet thrills, thereby finding the LH Flash SimDate, which spawned our own little crappily drawn(cept when I drew) and mostly stick figure based self-insertion comic which was actually pretty funny. Sadly, it was found and destroyed by my parents, so....*shrug*

Do I know that feeling!

I remember I got into an hilarious arguement about Evangelion with a friend while on the interbuttz about seven odd years ago and I saved it as a Word document. My mother found it two years ago (along with several very sexually explicit self-insertion fanfics) while purging my father's porn off the computer and I don't think I've even been that close to being beaten before in my life.

I've always loved fan-created works. I'm a doujinshi writer (not the hentai kind), and am actually reasonably popular in my town. I've got boxes upon boxes and gigs upon gigs of it taking up space in my house and on my two computers, most of them made by either me or my close friends.

Originally, my work was frowned upon by a lot of people I knew (it often contains loads of vulgarity, drug use and violence), but in about 9th grade, my teachers were my biggest fans. I also have a few fans on the 'net as well.

I write two series, Amazing Adventures in Nihilism/Dadaism (a social satire and parody of anime and manga in general) and a webcomic The Gallery of Sarcasm (which digs into Asian cinema and yaoi). TGoS can be read here (although it is rarely updated).

Wow, I sure did brag my ass off there....sorry for allowing my ego to get the better of me.

I'm not the kind of guy who'd run from that. I'd look up, find out who it was, walk over to her, and say in a calm voice "no" then go back to reading. Or possibly take her up on the offer. Depends how attractive she was.

The Samurai Champloo dub disturbs me with it's "thugged out" translations. Also, flashback episodes annoy me, even when they do try to make it all a joke.

I didn't mind the dub, but flashback episode in general piss me off. They are the epitome of useless filler.

I might watch it. I'm now starting to watch Cromartie High School. Wow, some crazy things with just the first episode. Hopefully the rest will be just the same.

I can withstand certain kinds of craziness for long periods of time, but Excel Saga is something that I could only ever watch in small doses.

Day Three has concluded, and it was quite possibly the best day of the convention for me. Even though I didn't get up to the main level until five or ten minutes after the Metal Gear panel started, I didn't miss anything. I found out about the MSX and the reason Metal Gear Solid fans hate Raiden.
The Inuyasha panel wasn't all that interesting, but it did give fans like me hope for a continuation of the series. Apparently, the anime caught up to the manga at episode 167, but the manga reveals a lot of character development and a happy ending for practically everyone (except Naraku, of course).
The Mobile Suit Gundam panel was very informative and also somewhat hilarious; the panelists explained the vast majority of the Gundam canon, from the One Year War to Turn A Gundam's mustache. They skipped over G Gundam because there wasn't enough time to properly ridicule it.
Last, but not least, the Bleach fan panel showed me just how far behind I am in the series; apparently there's a subbed version online with nearly 100 episodes, and Adult Swim has only aired around a dozen dubbed.
I couldn't find a single box of pocky at the convention, but managed to pick some up at a grocery store in Grove City. If I want some Ramune, I guess I'll just have to buy that over the internet.

Anime convention, yes?

Sorry, I've been gone for a while.

Uhh....can tell me what they said about NAruto and Prince of Tennis too? Those are two of my favorite animes that are still going. (Actually, other than casually watching some eng dubs on CN, those are the only two I watch that are still going).
