That was actually nominated for something at the awards bit I was at the other day. Don't think it won though, probably because it makes a better animation than a web page :P

Wow, I was so bored I just read the whole FAQ, the rules, the history of newgrounds, and the Biography of Tom Fulp. I am actually kind of glad I read them, the history and the biography were interesting

Meh, I'm not a fan. Generally the controls don't do it for me.
Speaking of which, I absolutely loathe the underwater levels in Galaxy.

Fun Levels

Mario 64 - the pyramid level way out in the desert with those tall pole/ball things and you had to get into the pyramid and jump around and climb and stuff.

Cold Shadow had some pretty cool levels, I doubt anyone even remembers that game, the whole jumping around on the organ as the boss blew on it or whatever for the final battle.

The quintessential coolest/most fun levels of all time though definitely come from Psychonauts. Seriously, how different were those levels from anything you'd ever played before? The black-light world? Meat circus? One of the coolest worlds I've ever been thrown into had to be the Napoleonic war game on the gigantic game board. And I'll just end it by saying "Milkman", that level has to be my favorite of all time.

always behind schedule.

Me too, seriously, I have an irl fear of being in a body of water and having some giant sea creature underneath me I can't see, like a whale or a shark or a large fish. There was also a level with a big fish that could swallow you whole, creeped me out a ton. Zombies chewing on my fake flesh, no big deal, giant scary water creatures in water with my fake self, not ok.

also, 2d mario water levels are annoying because you have less control.

Didn't star fox go underwater? I think it was just like being in space though, so that is my best recollection of a water level.

Fun Levels and Stuff

Kinda like that, but you had infinite torpedoes and stuff. You couldn't see that far ahead of you but it was still good.
I didn't like the land level of starfox, always hated it and could never get to the second ending that way.
As for fun levels and stuff, Bouldergiest was a fun boss in Galaxies. Also the bit in Crysis where you get the alien equivalent of a chain gun. It's just so fun to shoot the little buggers and watch them get torn to shreds. That gun makes you feel mighty powerful.I also liked shooting the flying alien machines with the gauss rifle.
The bit where you have to fight the second last boss was pretty epic and fun too.
For the original Unreal Tournament there was this map called Morpheus(I think), it was 3 towers up high in the sky and low gravity.
Me and my friends had good fun with this map whenever we did lan stuff.

RE: Underwater levels

Not to get back into that whole discussion but the little sound that mario makes when he swam in underwater levels in super mario bros is one of my favorite sounds in the game.

Other cool levels ... i enjoyed the last part of dead rising where you are driving away from that big tank. It felt like a refreshing change from the regular presentation of the game thus far.

Fun Levels

Here are some of my favorite levels:

Space Pirate Homeworld - Metroid Prime 3

Chapter 3 of Paper Mario 2

No More Heroes - Destroyman (the bosses were basically the whole level in this game)

Scrap Brain Zone - Sonic 1
Actually come to think of it, nearly every zone in the original sonic games were amazing and memorable.

Fun Levels

The 2nd level on Halo:CE (1st one) was pretty fun.
Also I like the oldish Crash Bandicoot boss levels. (Bofre the recent Crash games.)
Lastly back in the day the 3 original Spyro games were fun. ( For the 2nd and 3rd the underwater levels were good unlike many games.)

I hate all this new rubbish like Crash of the Titans and all the new random Spyro's.

I prefer Insomaniac and Naughty Dog's to Traveller's tales :(

Traveller's Tales is still in business? The last time I remember seeing their logo was Sonic 3D blast... which sucked

Yeah they really do suck. But yeah at least I think they are. They definetley did Crash of the Titans which was crap and was released recently.

VG's With Best Music
I'm not asking you to dump your grocery list here, but what is your favorite video game music?

Mine still has to be Earthbound for SNES. They really made that game music so squirky and diverse that it's actually worth listening to on it's own.

TT are involved heavily with Lucasfilm and a certain toy manufacturer in Denmark, making videogame crossovers between the two big trilogies Lucas owns...

Oh, and Batman

So part of my job is to be sad and do stat browsing. And out of interest, I checked Alexa for Newgrounds.

313th most visited site on the net apparently. Which is bizarre, because when I last checked it was 500something. Last December seemed to be a real low spot for NG - anyone have any idea what killed the site's page rank back then?

Alexa recently recalibrated their ranking system to include several new sources of data. Several of the major sites went up, while many also fell a few thousand. The rank was generated originally by the Alexa Toolbar installed on user's computers, but has grown over the past 10 years.

The MGS series always have brilliant soundtracks. It's probably more how brilliantly they're tied to the cutscenes and gameplay too, though.

For me it's a toss up between FFVI and FFVII :P

Sonic the hedgehog 1, 2, 3 + knuckles have the best retro music IMO.

Video Game Music
Either Metal Gear Solid (Harry-Gregson Williams) or Final Fantasy (Nobuo Eumatsu), I guess that's caused because those games are more like movies and touch a lot of different emotions.

Barring the obvious GH and Rock Band, I'll say my favourite video game music comes from the Guilty Gear series. GGXX#Reload specifically has the single greatest soundtrack in video game history. Other games I'll mention as having soundtracks firmly in the kickass area of the spectrum are Soul Blade and Soul Calibur, Wild Arms, Eretzvaju, FREQuency and Time Crisis.

On Midnight Club 2 there was a few catchy tunes.

Hmm... On Fifa 99 (lol) there was a few really good menu songs.

Can't think of many really.

Wait! Kung-Fu-Chaos! It had some of the best theme music of all time... Guess... Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting!

I liked some of the older Final Fantasy music, though some of the newer stuff is pretty good too. Now I really like the Zelda Twilight Princess themes. Those are really nice and calm to listen to. Helps me realx some days after work.

I need an opinion - is it worth buying a PS3 just so I can play MGS4? :P

I would say yes, but I am yet to see what MGS4 looks like. So I can't really say go out and spend $600 on something you might not even enjoy. I already have the PS3, so its not as much for me to get MGS4 and test it out to see if it is worth buying.

Umm video game forum already?

The best music I've heard is in Colony Wars: Red Sun and Spyro. I've only ever played PSX though. D:

One of my workmates is doing that. My boss (who owns a PS3 and a 360), has had nothing but contempt for the big black tower. I'm not sure he's actually been able to play any games on it yet...

I'll be getting a PS3 near the end of it's life cycle. Because that's only another two years away and there may be a decent game or two out for it by then that I can't get on the 360. Metal Gear doesn't count as the latest incarnation has killed all that was fun for me about it, and Final Fantasy XIII already has my expectations as low as they can get.

Better thing to do would be to convince someone else to buy you a PS3 and MGS4 so you can play it at thiers instead. The games magazines have already printed spoilers and claims of completion, so like all MGS games it can't exactly return that high a return on your investment - assuming a generous thirty six hours of play, we're talking £10/hour.

Still fancy paying that?
