Guilty Pleasures?
Anyone have any?
One of mine is to have a smoke late at night when its really cold outside on clear skies... nothing like standing outside its all quiet, theres a bunch of stars out there.. and just thinking about how far along you've come in life or like just being at peace with the world or whatever.. meh i dunno.
Another would be eating oysters. fuck i could eat them nonstop if i wanted to.

Gish
Damn too bad I don't have Steam anymore. When I get it though I'll be sure to. I can't wait to try it.
Guilty Pleasures
None that I'm feeling too guilty about. Sometimes (yes this is really random) if I want my friends to say something though I will kind of lead them to saying what I want them to. Sadly I'm good at that and I don't know why I thought of that.
PS Thanks for the Block :)

Guilty Pleasures
I like to take a long walk in my neighborhood while its snowing out and just ponder. It really helps me through sometimes.

Blah. Now I want a smoke. Do they help you sleep? Now I need an excuse.
My guilty pleasures.. hmm. Singing in the car, I guess. At high speeds, no one can notice you making an ass of yourself.

Not really help me sleep, its like symbolic of 'this day is officially over'
i wish i had a high rise apartment with a balcony though. One of the things i liked about going to toronto is smoking on the balcony and overlooking the skyline.. its empowering.. the city is mine. It reminded me of the newgrounds bg art for posts..
i wonder if there is hidden meaning to that. Like one day tom looked out of his penthouse and decided.. i rule over this and so i will display it all over my site.

..::guilty pleasures::..
I have to say that I'm a closet Madness fan... I really shouldn't enjoy it as much as I do, attempting to be a pacifist and all... but I do appreciate that pointlessly violent series. I enjoy the new ones but the original Madness Combat is so random, unpretentious and audacious I just love it to pieces and watch it every once in awhile.
Also, I like cocktails a lot more than I like beer. I drink beer because it's cheap and normal but I'd rather have a vodka tonic or long island iced tea...

Never had a vodka tonic. im not a fan of tonic water.. never was... i do enjoy a long island iced tea... youre serious about having a good time if youre ordering long islands.... INSIDER TIP.

Seconded for great truth! In the 6 months I've spent in Australia I haven't been able to find a single decent brand of beer (granted, I wasn't traveling around to find the king of beers). Tooheys and VB came pretty close, but they still can't compare with European beers.

Heineken for the win :) To be honest i prefer Amstel, another dutch brand. It's a bit less popular, but it tastes a bit milder. My alltime favorite beer has to be Guiness though. I can drink gallons of that lol
At 1/7/08 01:21 PM, trig1 wrote: Collab Overload
One way to improve all of this is is to have a check box on the make the new thread screen, whether it's a collab or not. If you haven't got the qualifications to make one, the box is uncheckable. Then, on the main forum screen, all verified collabs would be a different colour or have a different icon.
Then the mods would only have to check the small amount of threads calling themselves collabs, but aren't marked as such, to see if the author was too lazy to click the box or if people were trying to sneak the system.
This system will also cut down on people who don't know about the 3.0 BA rule making a collab.
I hope people understand what the heck I'm banging on about.
Seriously, this is the best NG-related idea I've heard since... I dunno. 2005 or 2006 probably.
One other thing - you should only be able to have, say, 2 collabs on the go at once. Or maybe it could vary depending upon your stats? Like the front-page posting, some would have 1, others 2, an elite few 3.
A mod would need to 'close' your collab when it's finished, so a variable is altered and you now get the option to start a new one. If you don't finish your collab maybe you'd get banned for a week or something, depending on circumstances?
Even if it were just necessary to have a collab closed before a new one, that'd mean that people would at least be encouraged to put in a final word apologising or explaining the situation and not just leave everyone hanging. At the same time, folk would know that whilst a collab-thread is open, the collab's still going.
And maybe the collabs you're running could pop up in your profile, so folk can join your shit if they want?
Anyway, even just the stuff that Trig1 said would be a massive boost to this sub-forum.
Please tell me that this idea's been sent to Tom at least. Maybe LilJim and Ross too...

Is that what you guys need to do?
I assumed you had the power to just post in any thread, regardless of locked status.
So... someone else could have theoretically posted in there if they were quick?

Not impressive. Being ABLE to eat them is nothing.
What would be impressive is if you WANTED to eat them nonstop but just couldn't because of money or stomach space.
Go
Thanks for reminding me Tom - I met a drunken dude the other day who said there's a public Go club on Wednesdays at Glasgow uni.
I played it a few times years ago on some freeware/shareware programs until I found I could beat the computer fairly easily on large boards at the highest difficulty.
Apparently, unlike chess, computers have not yet been able to beat a champion human player (on a full-sized board) because the stupidly high number of potential moves/future moves messes with the typical brute-force approach that programs use to decide upon optimal play.
Newgrounds Skyline
Is that actually a recreation of somewhere in Philadelphia? I always assumed it was just an imaginary thing but have wondered.
Also, never noticed before that 50% of the bbs skyline is a mirror of the header's. Thanks for bringing it up, Luis.

I don't think it us. Besides in Center City where there are a couple banks and huge office building Philadelphia is a pretty "short" city. They don't have THAT many absolutely massive skyscrapers. It doesn't look like the skyline to me, but I haven't lived there long enough to know for sure.

I think the old skylilne was more realistic in regards to it being modeled after a real place. The redesigned one i think is more about interesting shapes and silohuettes.

It's faster, and I plan to make serious use of the new sound functions ;D.

just tell em it's a lie and that Luis is a programmer and you are an animator and you two did this so that you won't have to answer Pm's like that and every thing you do is made by Luis and vise versa that way they would think you are crazy and leave you alone =]
Ass 3.0
At 1/8/08 01:01 PM, jmtb02 wrote: What foul religion is this?
Okay. Arriving in the office yesterday was a fucking huge tome. About a thousand odd pages long in a giant Amazon container. On the front, a viper of some kind in monochrome and a teal box identifying it as an OReilly book. And it was addressed to me.
Fuck you AS 3.0.
Trying to explain the difference between AS3 and AS2 to my coworkers was along the lines of "instead of adding new features, they pretty much redid the language from the ground up to make it Object Oriented". The response to this was along the lines of it sucking. This was later followed up by it sucking even more once people were reminded about the price of upgrading to CS3 over here.
In all fairness, Colin Moock's Essential Actionscript 3.0 is actually a very good book - it starts from the bare bones and introduces the language peicemeal and completely. Granted, because it's a beginners book there's nothing here most people don't already know, but it WILL cement all understanding of the processes involved and make a better programmer out of you.
Buy the damn book, I say.
...
AS3
Well, it's really not THAT different than AS2. All the datatypes are similar, if not the same, as their AS2 version (MovieClip behaves the same way, with a few new features and underscores removed from properties which makes it faster to type them).
In reality though, not allowing code on movieclips (you can still have code IN movieclips) doesn't effect it that much, except for buttons, which is my only real beef with that aspect of it.
Seriously, the earlier you get used to AS3 the better. For people experienced with AS2, it shouldn't take more than 1 month to learn the quirks, and then another month to get back to your old level of productivity, then another month to get noticeably better results from AS3. It's possible to get used to it quicker, just remember to use arrays a lot.
Convert now or be damned for eternity to an inferior AS2 language.

i agree !! lucky for me i don't action script but think of it like that..
if you don't upgrade you will end up like those old people who can't use computers..

Hah. I spend a couple of days trying to work it out in the Beta, when there was no documentation. Once I actually got CS3, it took about one more half day of work (about four hours in all :s) to work out all the events and the fact that properties were renamed, and a few checks to tutorials and one help thread over the next week or so just to get completely used to it.
Seriously, migration from AS2 to AS3 is easy. The biggest step is getting used to the new event handling, then to the new compile errors. From that point on it's basically a neater looking and stricter AS2 - the only things after that you may really need help with are understanding and working around the weird bugs Flash CS3 has, which is a pain.
Damn I forgot to vote on monthlies ... s'ok nothing i vote for ever winzorz
I think there should be a 'vote not to win' button... like its so hard to find 10 things i liked in a month.. its easier to find 10 things i definately dont like.

Ya that was the part that took me the longest.
I never used try..catch before AS3, but now for my game to be playable I basically need to put my whole code in one (cause some errors like null object reference are a pain to work around and wouldn't cause an issue if flash wasn't so pissy about it)
And the not updating the frame till after the code is over so I can't reference a symbol in a frame I gotoAndStop to until the next frame, where its too late to make the update I want with it still looking smooth. Uggg.
Guilty Pleasures
I masturbate. A lot.
Also, I am a HUGE procrastinator. Example: AFD6, while being over a year old, is JUST NOW starting to be assembled. And the main reason that most of my class grades suck is because I don't do my homework.
I also smoke from time to time at work.
