You should check out the rest by that guy too, :D Thanks.

What I feared most has come to pass: my game has been dealt a severe blow by all those who don't like anyone to occupy the top space. From #1 to #50 in one night :( At least we just clung to the top 50. Its a sad fact that anything at the #1 slot automatically becomes a target for haters, and since only 4% of viewers voted it was pretty vunerable.

It happens all the time... Fanboys will always try to get their favorites into the 1st position. Therefore bringing everything else down. It's sad.

What would you say is the single most addictive game you've ever played (flash or console)? Can you put your finger on why it was so addictive?

I don't know why, but Harvest Moon for the GBA got me totally addicted for a whole freaking year. I even play it now and then. Too bad it's endless... haha. The N64 one is pretty good aswell.

But yes, I agree with Glaiel. Final Fantasy tactics for the GBA Is incredibly addictive. By the way Glaiel, have you ever played "Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis" ? The gameplay is really similar, except you move all your troops in one turn rather than according to speed. I love the game... You should get it. :P

Street Fighter Alpha 3; Playstation version, no question. The perfect one on one fighting game, I can play it endlessly. But what is it that makes it so addictive? It's hard to boil it down to any single quality... competitive play, trying to master the move sets and combos for multiple characters, knowing that you can always get better, character customization and RPG elements in World Tour mode.

In second place is the original Dragon Warrior (now Dragon Quest) the first RPG I ever played the concept was so fresh and interesting, I can still play through it without getting bored. The constant improvement of your character is a huge element into what makes RPG's so addictive.

Did any of you guys ever play "Pokemon Puzzle League" ? It's the only game i own that i play on a regular basis. It's incredibly fun (leaving aside the pokemon crap, the concept itself is). And rather challenging, I couldn't stop playing until i finally beat Super Hard mode, since then, i only play when my brother's home... :P

Yeah, I think Tom should keep track of users who vote ridiculously low on hih scoring Flash. Not ot the extent of destroying the whole point of a voting system, but they should have to justify why they thought a 4+ scoring submission was of such a low quality that it deserved a 0 - to not even be allowed into the portal; worse than that - even a 1 would be below portal standards.

If the user could give a reason that wasn't totally retarded, they could avoid a 30 day voting ban.

Hang on, I think I've got it fixed. On of those useless services I disabled actually turned out to be necessary for something.

I'm still getting a weird .dll error for Steam, though.

There should be a system update, where when a submission reaches a certain score you can't vote 0 or 1 on it.

Probably Super Mario Sunshine. Its just the kind of game where after you win, theres still tons else to do, so its not like "Whoop dee doo, you win. Now get a life."

Sorry for asking for so much help :(. But does anyone know why this won't work?

levelUp._visible = false;
killCount = 0;
level = 1;
var levelArray:Array = new Array(10, 20.01, 30.02, 45.03, 60.04, 80.05, 100.06, 120.07, 150.08, 170.09, 200.1, 230.11, 260.12, 300.13, 340.14, 400.15, 450.16, 460.17, 480.18, 500.19);
btn1.onPress = function() {
_root.killCount++;
trace(_root.killCount);
};
for (var i = 0; i<levelArray.length; i++) {
if (killCount == levelArray[i]) {
level += 1;
trace(level);
levelUp._visible = true;
levelUp.play();
killCount += 0.01;
}
}

I bet it's something stupid that I've missed. I would look for it for a while, but i really need to press on :O.

What's the problem?

I've had a "glitch" on flash that when i have variables on the _root, it won't let me add to them via:

_root.var++;

So i have to do the longer way...

_root.var+=1;

Might be the problem?

The system is fine, people vote zero and five on almost everything, it's the way your score has the maximum impact. If you want to lower the score of something that you feel is overrated, you're not going to vote 3, at least I wouldn't.

In my opinion it would be better if users with higher batting average would have higher voting power. There are a lot of users who are good at flashes and low voting power and a lot of users who have never opened flash, but have very high voting power. I just want to say that flash artist vote more fairly than other users.

That would be cool, except for those who can mass vote their way to high batting averages, thus higher votes. Maybe a small wedge of voting power? Either way, I think the system works peachy keen just the way it is.

True, although just because the entire Internet thinks something is awesome, doesn't mean you have to like it. A lot of the fads on Newgrounds are pathetic for the advancement of Flash animation and gaming as an entertainment medium - AYB, Numa and Ultimate Showdown are, respectively, slideshows, webvideos and really really bad animation. In some peoples eyes, they don't deserve the same critical acclaim as Adam Phillips and Farr.

I mean, how many slideshows and badly animated tweens and web-videos have you insta-blammed from the portal?

Whilst it sucks that any thing going through the Portal may be hit with an automatic zero, ruining it's score, the voting power tries to cover all the bases.

No, sorry :(.

Okay, i shoudl have explained better. I'm basically making a level system, so when killCount reaches one of the arrays values, it plays the levelUp aniamtion and the level var goes up by 1. But i cannot get the if statement in the for loop to work.

If i trace levelArray[i] it works fine but the killCount==levelArray[i] won't :(.

Anyone know why?

Big brother is watching YOU Paranoia.

I don't think anything needs to change with it. This isn't really a formed opinion as I don't really follow user voting habits or anything. Sometimes I vote on what I liked from the submission, sometimes I vote on what the current vote count is and whether I think it's deserving.

Any of you play Counter Strike by anychance? I'm really good at CS_Assault, so someone play it with me.

I suck at CS. I'd say I'm more of an Unreal player, but I'm no good at that either.

I can use the level editor though. Thankyou university ^_^

A page or so back we had Tom ask what the most addictive game they've ever played was. I've currently had my attention focussed on Evil Genius by (the now defunct) Elixir Studios. Anyone who's ever seen a James Bond film before and wanted to see the bad guy win, or enjoyed Dungeon Keeper should play the game. You play the role of (strangely enough) an Evil Genius hellbent on World Domination. You get an island, a group of lackeys in yellow jumpsuits, and start building an evil lair that soon becomes the target for super spies.

I'm redoing it from the beginning. I'm up to the stage where you're slowly arranging for the world's crimelords to sit around a fancy table whilst you unviel your plans for world domination. Unfortunately I've got enough soliders from the Communist Defense Force H.A.M.M.E.R. patrolling my base looking for that painting I stole from Cuba that I'm a bit distracted.

I can't wait to get the laboratory laser and the bookshelves to supplement my mixer and torture devices. Oh, and the trap system is to die for - some really twisted Rube Goldberg style deathtraps are available near the end of the game. And this time, I'm going to make sure I kill every one of the super agents.

Are they ranked chronologically from when they joined the super agency or ranked by skill?

When they join.. else what if someone who was clearly the best joined, everyone would have to move down one. It would be madness.

Depending on which way you interpret down that is.. maybe they'd move up.
