ill come down if i can get some fake ID by then >.> fucking london, that and if it doesnt clash with exams.
I hope the meetups don't stop after I leave VI Form. At the moment I'm pissed at being in the younger section of the year - having to get people to buy you drinks when the staff are being lame and IDing people just makes you feel like a loser. It's expensive too.

Yeah, that's just what we need. Some good ol' fashion segregation O.o

Massive Yes.
I am planning to move into Multimedia Game Developement.. So flash is a little headstarter for me, actionscript may not be the hardest code to learn, but with the power of actionscript and VB on my side, ill be able to learn C++ faster.. (hopefully)
Hmmm... I don't really think knowing actionscript is so.... similar?
london meetup
Hmm, me and a mate were planning to go to London sometime soon for a weekend. Maybe i can plan it so that we are there the same time you are there L. Would be fun to club with you, superflashbro Tom/Dim and some other NGers for a night >: )

I was actually thinking about that. Maybe having a meetup next month in philly once the munny project is wrapped up. Like meetup and then head over to the ng office so everyone could see everyones finished munnys and just mingle ... have to talk to tom bout it tho..

Haha, a few hours ago it was a maybe, now you're definitely coming! Awesome! I wish I was as impulsive as you!

Quick Kirk. Go buy a ticket to the Papervision lessons...

End of the Year project?
So we should try brainstorming some flash forum reg related mini collaborative project to squeeze in before the year is out. I know jmtb had attempted to have a go at one earlier this year and it just fizzled out but maybe something on a very small and manageable scale and simplicity and with a very solid timeline. It would be kind of cool to sprinkle everyones talents into some sort of hodge podge experience.
bday party
I should have cupcakes and like little balloon animals and clowns at the london meet.

Done! No clowns though >_<

London meetup 2
Will it be the same as last time? (i didnt go but i understood what it was about/like)... I would like to come, i'd be interested to know who the people are behind the usernames.
Regs Collab
Oh dear. That collab had so much hype but then nearly 90% of the collab team dropped in the first 2 days. We need something small enough to fit the minds of these ADD kids, hopefully animation-based so I can go back to doing animation for a while.

Yep definately.. i was thinking a very flash reg centric mario party type of thing.. themed minigames or somethin

What i think is lacking in most collabs is the actual collaboration. Most of the collabs are just a collection of different flashes put together, sometimes sharing a theme. The best collabs in my opinion are actually games where designer and coder work closely together.

You know I have nothing but respect for you, but the collab's outcome was pretty much what I said it would be. You made it too rigid and inflexible - you essentially gave a specific storyline and told everyone to adhere to it. If we'd gone with my idea to begin with - a load of independant and loosely associated movies and games which tied together in the middle - then the collab would have had a much higher chance of survival. We work best when left to our own devices - that's why most of us aren't doing Flash professionally :P
Anyway, I-told-you-so over; it really doesn't suit me. L8rxxx
Well, i kept with the Reg collab as long as i could, until i found out my work was going to get wasted because everyone else quit....
And i agree with AloneInTheDark. Im really not interested in minigame collections. I would rather a full cohesive game that has its work split up between multiple users.
At one point i wanted to make an arcade style fighting game and have everyone make there own character and stage. Woulda worked if i fine tumed me fighting engine a little more.

That is such an awesome idea. We need to do it. Now.
hey guys, i was just dropping in for some advice. i'm looking for a pretty skilled actionscripter to help me with a game. who would you guys suggest i ask? i have a thread but it doesn't seem to be working.

Well...here is the engine i did for it. Pretty basic. As i said, not fleshed out. Arrows to move, A and S to attack, and space to jump. Pressing up and an attack button at the same times does an upper cut type thing. Tis fun.

well thats why its a brainstorm session.. just trying to see what everyones idea of something fun would be.. the main problem with a cohesive game is that we have alot of actionscripters here and its like too many cooks in the kitchen.. or too many cooks working from too many different recipes to get to the same task and theres a bunch of stepping on toes... i dunno

Regs Collab
I say we force everyone into animation. It's fun, not frustrating, and doesn't mean we have thousands of programmers for one project. The whole minigame idea rocks but quite frankly, it pretty much makes a collab go from easy-peasy to "OH FUCK GET DOWN".
Hi there!

I understand what you mean.
Another option is an adventure type game. That way, we would have multiple engines. Say, one coder codes the side scrolling platform adventure, then the character gets into a helipcoter or something, which would be coded by a different person. And so on and so forth. Its a real, cohesive game, but having mutliple engines will allow more coders to get invlolved and, well....make for a kickass game.

This is what killed the first regs collab, as Paranoia said. People don't like a rigid guideline, and need to not be suppressed (even though everyone really needs to suck it up). Something like a simple theme, guidelines, and deadline would seem easiest and most appropriate.
Hi there!
Reg Collab
It's a shame the previous one didn't succeed, but my animator dropped out and i never heard from him :S. I like the idea of a ng rumble type game (nice engine), everyone could do an charachter or a menu or something. And animators could do the intros (or something similar).
Games Galore
Anyone notice that there are as many games as there are movies on the front page now.
there wasn't before, right?
Well, since collabs seems to be the hot topic now:
API Game Collab.. Again
Yesterday I felt really hyped about the idea of a API Game Collab and I had all these ideas on how to make it great. I still have loads of faith in the idea, but after thinking more of it I don't think that I will have the time to lead a collab now, so I guess what I'm trying to say is that if anybody is interested in leading it you can do so. If the collab is being done in AS2 I will most likely join, I don't think that I will be able to learn AS3 very soon though as I have a few AS2-projects I really want to finish.
College
I got accepted into Digipen. Next year, that's where I'll be.
Lotsa math and physics and programming and game design, should be perfect for me.
www.digipen.edu
They're still accepting applications, if anyone else wants to try. I'm going to need a roommate cause I don't want to pay $1000 a month for an apartment by myself.
