Not to call you out or anything, but I just did.

lol, I was under the impression that he was kidding. Because yeah, if you were anything near 27 days without sleep you would have already died or passed out, caffeine or no caffeine.

Yeah.. the world record for sleep deprivation is 11 days. So that's bull. My record is five days, wasn't trying to stay up, I just had this drive to finish a project I was working on.

My record is 2 and a half days :/. I just watched a bunch of movies...

The problem lies with Disney, not pixar. Pixar makes great animations, Ratatouille (<3 spell check lol) is one of my fav movies. Disney just sucks the life out of everything.

"Crazy Pickled-Eating Mullet Sleep Pattern"

Yeah I take 1-3 hour power naps. I usually stay up motivated by porn and flash I'm working on.
However once and a while it all catches up to me. For example: I fell asleep at 9:00 AM this morning and just woke up at 11:20 PM and had a shower.
Longest I've gone without any sleep period was like 2 & 1/2 days and yeah... it was crazy.

Also: My friend Darryl was hitting on girls on my msn when I was passed out. I came to my computer with three girls on webcam...... :/
Oh well he just went to work so it's cool.

Other way round in my opinion. I mean they have had great work such as Toy Story etc, but they usually overdo it by making a CGI animation towards anything they can think of.

The 3D animation phase has really brought alot of shit to the screen, though at the same time some decent stuff. I think we should rely on the classic work of Disney, that's what I think of when I say their name.

3D animation is 'too realistic'
My opinions on this are: Why make realistic, not cartoony 3D films, that is basically like the real thing. When nowadays you can get actors infront of a green screen and act. Surely thats a more efficient way.

That is why i prefer 2D. Not that i dislike 3D, i just dont see the point in it. Although i probably will learn 3D somewhen. I tried it once and my model looked retarded, i didn even get to the animation bit. :(

3D animation

Well, as far as films go, I think that if some guys have a really great idea then they should go ahead with it in whatever way they think is most appropriate, 3D, 2D, live action or whatever.

The problem with 3D animation, really, is that it's the latest make-lots-of-money-for-a-generic-idea scheme. It's a problem you can see in the film industry as a whole, as well as the whole sponsorships thing with Flash today. If something's coming from some uninspired producer thinking: "OMG PEOPLE WILL PAY TO SEE A LOAD OF 3D BEARS TRYING TO SAVE A FOREST FROM SOME HAIRY GUYS IN TARTAN" or whatever, rather than an idea that someone genuinely believes in and wants to see brought to life, then the results are going to be mediocre, or even just plain bad, nine times out of ten.

From what I've heard he is preparing his 9,000th post and he is not going to post until he has something truly epic to say, and considering how long ago it was since he last posted it ought to be epic.

Just imagine his disappointment if nobody cared about it ;)

Nothing wrong with 3D (I make some models that way myself), theres some great little bits like "Kiwi" or "Squirrel Must Die!" The thing I think that bugs people isn't really the 3D, but how it misaproprates old intellectual property and markets it like hell. So the real problem is with somebody doing rehashes an ol' Tex Avery or Fractured Fairy Tales, and calling it "new". Then they are then spun into mass produced toxic toys made in China and sold through wall mart so some big studio can reap the market for maximum damage like it was some giant enemy crab or something.

3D does have one thing up on 2D though, you can find some actual *good* free software (which I'd willingly vouch for) for making and/or animating it. So at least you can homebrew it on a shoestring budget if for some reason you can't stand the mainstream. (Just be aware that rendering takes "forever" on typical hardware in relation to the other parts of 3D production.) Any noticable free apps comparable to Flash for 2D animated content production? Not that I'm aware of.

sleep deprivation
I think the longest period without sleep I've ever been through is about 55 hours... I had an afternoon flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong which takes about 12 hours, walked around in Hong Kong for a good 15 hours, after that, took a plane to Sidney which takes another 8 hours or so. Arrived in Sydney in the morning (I think) and spend the entire day sightseeing. Might not be very long, but jet-lags sure can be a bitch.

iPod
My 80 gigs iPod arrived last week, I think it's brilliant. Every time I see it I just can't help but wanting to lick it.

IMO, 2d animation says to me that this person has talent, they can draw super duper fucking well and should make million$ (I used a "$" instead of an S woo go me ^_^) but when I see a 3d cartoon I think, this guy can use a computer...

*Cricket* ...

*Cough* ...

The same principles of animation apply in 3d as 2d... modeling usually is based upon 2 or 3 2d drawings imported and placed over the axi... Modeling requires a shitload of understanding of purportion and familiarity with your character in order to look good. Rigging is one of those things that takes talent just not artistic talent, and animating in 3d has such a gigantic base in principles of 2d animation you really need to be able to animate in 2d well to animate in 3d well...

Also I'm going to falt out disagree that it is easier or takes less time to make, if it was easier and cheaper everything would be 3d as kids will always watch cartoons regardless of if they are 2d or 3d...

I'm cool now... Right guys?... Guys?

Computer problems -- Again?

Well, recently my computer was affected by the "Blue Screen of Death." It's a Windows XP Media Center 2006 Edition, but this isn't quite my problems. It's actually another computer that is having some problems. Well, it's my fathers, I'm just trying to get information about it as much as I can to pin-point the problem, and see what's going on with it. Just trying to get as much information possible, and I'd appreciate it if you help me.

It all occurred yesterday. Everything was all fine, everything working, everything on, than suddenly it went blank. My dad walked up stairs to go onto the computer and his whole computer was shut down. It's kind of like some lock-down type of thing. Everything else works but the tower. The monitor turns on, everything else in the circuit breaker works, except the Modem. We even tried to bring the modem into another room to see if it'll turn on there, but there was no success. We even took my computer cord and hooked it up to his, (maybe the cord was busted) but it still didn't work.

Maybe, the power switch or the fan burned out of something. I don't quite know, but for some reason the computer won't turn on at all. I'm just wondering if it'll cost more to get it fixed, or just buy a whole new computer. It's rather old, we bought it back in 2001, it's a Dell Dimension 4300, Windows XP. I just want to pinpoint where the problem is starting. That's all. Than we'll work from there.

Please help, thank you.

grummy computer

Time to buy. Six years is far beyond normal for the life of a computer, you should be happy it lasted that long. The normal cycle is every 2-4 years.
