I'd suggest Malorie Blackman's Noughts And Crosses, but that could depend on how old you are. I too am at a bit of a dead-end literature-wise. ooh, also, try the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

RE: Personal Eccentricities

For example: I'll be walking down the road, subconsciously counting my steps

I kept doing sometihng like that the whole time I was in Florida, whenever I stepped onto a new concrete slab in the sidewalk I'd predict in my head approximately how many steps it would take to get to the next one, and if I did too many or too little step's I'd have to compensate for it on the next slab. Odd.

It seems kind of stupid to pay $400 for 16 gigs when you can get 160 gigs for $350. But it's sooooo shiny and touchy and it has wifi! I think I'm gunna get one.

iPod Touch

Basically iPod raped by the LG chocolate - except I think they added the two prices instead of averaging them...

Still, not as bad as the iPhone (4/8 GB for $499/$599, respectively)

You could get an iPod with ten times the space for that price, or an entire desktop computer.

I like the battery life on the new ipods. I do not like the fact that Apple makes you feel your ipod sucks after 6 months of owning the newest and coolest. I mean, I know friends who are on their 5th or 6th ipods.

I have had a zune for a year. I am happy.

Re: 'Eccentricities'

I do the sidewalk thing as well. Also, when I go down my stairs, I always walk 4 steps down, skip the 5th, walk 2 more, and then go every other step to have a final count of 10 (always counting in my head when I go). When I go up, it's always the first 6, and then every other (for 10 again). When I go down my basement stairs, I take the first 8, and then skip some, for a total of 10.

Good to know I'm not the only one with counting problems :P

Newgrounds Tank Logo inappropriate?

Twas my first day of classes today and durring lunch a teacher stoped me and explained how the NG Logo sticker on my BackPack was inappropriate. I will try to e-reenact as best I can.

*Derek walkin' down crowded hallways avoiding fat poeple and starring at the random large breasts. All a sudden a short teacher about 4 inches shorter then Derek calls out to him*
Teacher: Hey you in the coat, stop! (I was wearing a big black coat.... I thought it would rain today.)
Derek: Erh? *confused face*
Teacher: That's inappropriate. Take it off or I will.
Derek: What's inappropriate?
Teacher: The tank on your backpack.
Derek: You mean the newgrounds Tank Logo?
Teacher: Look I don't care what kind of strange groups your in, but any form of clothing promoting weapons is agianst this schools dress-code.
*Derek then takes Backpack off and looks at it*
Derek: How does this promote weapons? *raises eyebrow*
Teacher: The explosion in the background.
Derek: Those are sun beams... Do you even know what Newgrounds is?
Teacher: Hey, I already said I didn't want to know anything about the groups your in and what you in them. Just take the sticker off the backpack.
Derek: Umm... Well, I can't see how this promotes weapons and I can't see how poeple could be offended by this.
*teacher now angry with derek*
Teacher: Why's this sticker so important to you? What exactly do you do in this "newgrounds" group of yours. (So after sayin' he doesn't wanna know about it twice, he all a sudden want's to know? And couphs up an attitude?)
Derek: It's the number 1 online entertainment site in the world.
Teacher: I find that hard to believe.
Derek: 'Kay it's a site where poeple post their flash videos and win prizes and crap.
Teacher: Flash videos!? *now angrier* (He obviously thought I was talkin' bout the other kind of flash.... Therefore I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume this guy A) Epically fails at the interwebs. B) Is not a computer teacher. and C) has an life unlike myself.)
Derek: Yeah, I've posted about tweenty of my vids on it already.
Teacher: Remove the sticker right now or I will.
Derek: Fine, Fine...
*Derek removes sticker, crumbles it up, and throws it in the nearest garbage can* (Forgive me Tom!)
Teacher: Great, from now on. Smartin' up.
*Teacher walks away and Derek takes out new sticker from pocket and places it on backpack* (Happy Ending!)

What have I learned from this experince?
1. Their's a lot of fat poeple and boobs at my school this year.
and
2. Some poeple really need to stay in, learn their internets, and stop getting out so much.

Also: My friends looked at me funny as I brought a Jar of Pickles to school for lunch.... I did not share a single one.

Story Bout Stupid teacher

LMAO! I hate teachers so... They really need to be more open minded. 'Twas my first day of school today also, new school, 1 friend in the entire district (he used to be in my old school, he moved there a year earlier).

First Day School Story

So apparently NO ONE in any of my classes has ever seen a true online flash game, or they have and thought it was incredibly hard to program. Like I'm sure they've played some more streamline ones during class or something, like Tanks.

Well anyway, apparently they think I'm some sort of computer genius because I showed them my bouncing ball physics test. I mean its pretty easy to program, i just happened to have the .swf on my Jump Drive (flash memory drive, thumb drive, whatever you guys call it), and I said as my hobby (in a getting to know everyone exercise) that I like to program.

The teacher wanted to see, and she put it on the projector (apparently being able to program means that you're Einstein). All it is a simple gravity test (from my experimental days of coding) where the ball bounces off the walls and it has gravity and bounces off the floor. In fact, this is all it is... Well, now everyone in my English class thinks I'm a computer god. Oh well, I guess I'll keep up the Facade as long as possible.

Also: My friends looked at me funny as I brought a Jar of Pickles to school for lunch.... I did not share a single one.

Tell them to Fuck off, Pickles own.

Heh last year, everyone in an honors level or above science class was forced to do a science fair project, so I just did something simple (for me) about collision detection (squares and circles and line segments and bitmaps) and used big words to explain it to the judges. It was really a slack off last-minute project for me cause like... I'm lazy.

I got 3rd place and was forced to go to the regional science fair (i was all like "damn i really didn't try to hard) and won 2nd place there.

it was an easy $250 lol

I just need to think of something better for this year. If i actually try, maybe i could get like 1st place or something. My friends want to make a robot and they want me to program it... unfortunately i don't know how i'd program a robot unless it was a virtual robot.

(about 400 people participated in the school fair).

lol I remember reading that, that was pretty funny sometimes, almost like kfk or awesomes. Yea I show some friends my flash stuff, and my family, my siblings like it, in fact saying watermelon watermelon is a joke for us, as well as "excuse me, waiter" but no one really saw that flash.

RE: Newgrounds Tank

Lol, what a weird teacher. Maybe s/he just takes the dress code too seriously.

RE: School Story

Maybe if you posted a full game, they would worship you. I guess that people are just amazed when someone they know can program something. I hope to show my Flash expertise someday soon at school.

I was fairly impressed with my computer science course last year. The teacher actually knew what he was doing. We started with C++ and then moved to C# (due to ease of use) for anything graphical. We had 100% flexibility in our major projects. In C++ I wrote a small program that let you apply very basic encryption to any file and revert it back if you knew the key it was encrypted with.

Long story short, I aced the course (98%).

There is actually a nice looking Web Design course that I would like to look into. Maybe I could get a nice flash showcase going.

That was... amazing. I laughed a lot of the time xD It inspired me to do something like that for my next project (at least one I can make a movie in) Nice, easy, simple :p

Also .. programming classes are 'interesting'. Learning the basics of Java right now. Although I know more than that but, alas, teach' wants me to stay with the class. At least I can do what I want while she takes 15-20 minutes to explain the simplest of code to the sillies who don't understand anything. :o

Pet Peeves Of NG

Think I spelt that right... Anyway you wanna know what really gets under my skin on NG? Probably don't care but whatever... It's when some stupid 13-15 year old kid that signed up not ever a month ago leaves me and my friends about 5 comments each on our blogs telling us about how much we suck, leaves abusive reviews on nearly all our toons, and goes as far as to PM us each just to insult us for know reason whatsoever other then he thinks either I or a toon of mine sucks.

Sure after he's banned from the blog, his reviews been flagged, and blocked from PMs it's like he was never around but the fact some idiot went through all the trouble and wasted time just to insult someone is so immature, unproductive, and plain out idiotic! Things like this really annoy me...

Anything that really gets under your skin on NG?

- Fat Kids with No LIfe -

Okay, so I've got this game, Animania, that I submitted to NG around the end of last year, which i originally made for my highschool major work to hsow a range of multimedia and animation techniques.
After getting a front-page with it and a daily award, i was asked by a guy at Flash Portal.com to submit it to flashportal.com...so i did.
Now almost a year after submitting it and reading this now locked thread in this forum about some kid googling his game and realising his stuff had been appearing on other sites without his permission, i was a little curious so i googled my Animania game.
It did appear on a few random websites, but I noticed a video review some kid had done on this game of mine.

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/7713 74/2

Some like, i dont know, 13 year old fat kid, had made a 7 & 1/2 minute video review of my game about how much it sucked haha.
I favourited this because it was quite humorous watching this kid get frustrated for no real reason.
I found it bizarre how he wasted his time to review this when he was never gonna get many views and also how he didn't even follow the storyline properly and not even read the instructions.
Its also funny how it is aimed at a younger age and he wasn't even able to beat some simple minigames because he's a retard or something :S My 10 year old sister had no problem with any of tthem.
I love it.

Although I do admit, it is quite a lame game...or interactive movie.
What do you guys think?

sixth form:

started sixth form today, and i am loving my timetable.

Ive already done my maths alevel, so im only taking physics and italian (and further maths im doing on my won like i did maths for other reasons among them, that it clashes with italian) so only 2 lessons on timetables: this is my timetable for teh 2 week rotation: (5 periods in a day, with breaks between the first 2, and a lunch break after third, each one 1 hours starting first lesson at 8:50)

Week1:
Monday : Phys - free - free - free - Italian
Tuesday : Italian - Phys - free -free - free
Wednesday: Italian - RE - free - free - phys
thursday: free- free -free - italian - free
friday: free -free -physics - free -free

week2:
monday: RE - italian - free -free -free
tuesday: phys - free -free -free -free
wednesday: free- italian - italian -free -free
thursday: phys - free -free - phys -italian
friday: free - italian - physics -free -free

all in all with 50 periods accross the two week rotation, 31 of them are free periods

i only have to come in for the first lesson, can leave after the last lessons, be off-site during lunch and do whatever i want in school, computers, music room whatever during free periods

:D

Upper Sixth

My timetables suck :P For some reason, they decided to get rid of the old one-week, six lessons a day system which was working out pretty well in that lessons didn't go on for so long that everyone stopped paying attention. They moved to the more mainstreem two-week, five a day cycle, and my frees are all stuck in big clumps so that I have over four hours of killing time in the common room doing sod all on one day, and three one-hour maths sessions in a row on another.

Also, I could have had most of Wednesday off from first lesson on, but my FUCKING MATH'S TEACHER decided that we needed another lesson, and plonked in right in the last spot of the day.

Last year's was so much better.

31 free periods?!

that's a lot of tampons XD

I only get 6 per fortnight :( But I guess that's for the better seeing as there's nothing to do during the free periods anyway.

Animania Review

This video is a perfect example of peoples ignorance towards games. It can be any type of game, ps2, pc, flash, shockwave etc. There will always be people who critisize for the sake of critisisng, without even thinking about the amount of effort that went into the games. Flash games especially, since platform game developers get payed thousands, and most flash developers are lucky to get a couple of hundred dollars.

Anyway, bottom line, this kid is a douche, but it's something that will always be there, no matter when or where you are and when or where you publish your work.

Spellcheck

Anyone know where i can download a spellchecker for firefox? I can't find one on google :S.
