I always figured the whole point of the contest was for the site running it to get more games than they normally would. I figure that if you don't think you can win the contest, don't enter. The reward is greater, and so is the risk. I'd assume there'd be something in the contest rules as well that states that win or lose, you can't get your game sponsored by someone else.

Besides, even if you lose, you have the experience that came with making the game, and the actual game itself, regardless of if you made money off of it or not.

Hardly anyone makes games without the intention of profit. If they did, we would have some pretty cool games.

Well, I think with the way things are now, and as rampant as sponsorships are, it's ok to think that you'll get some money at the end. However, thinking "I need some money, so let's see how fast I can put this defense game together!" and spewing out the same game that's been done 100 times is crap. Chances are it will still be sponsored, too.

If you want some money, fine, but do everyone a favour and put some effort in, and give us something new.

FUCK YOU, WISDOM TEETH!

So tomorrow at like, 1:45 p.m. I am getting them ripped out of my mouth forcibly.

Afterwards, they'll be giving my oxycotin and some weak-ass pain reliever.

Don't expect me to post well with that shit in my system.

Also, wish me luck.

Game Sponsorship

There is a huge demand by sponsors for games. There is a demand by kids for generic games. It's a smart economic decision to make generic games then, if you're looking for some money. Of course I agree that pumping out shit that will get sponsored is messed up, but making a generic game that will surely receive sponsorship isn't bad, and I would assume anyone that can, always tries to add something new and challenging to their work. I just made a silly short game in a day, but I did some new things, and I got good practice with things I already know how to do.

Game Sponsorship

I know you can get money from making a game, but in the end, it is better to just have a link to your site. You could turn a larger profit over time through that. Rather then immediatly selling out to another site. The problem also is, while your making a game, if you start thinking about being sponsored then your going to rush the game and make it generic just to get it out there because you will become more excited about the money rather then the finished product of a game.

That is true, but you have to set a site up first, which costs money and takes time, time some people aren't willing to commit. And I actually find that sponsorship serves as a good motivator. However I admit that games you make for fun will ultimately be better quality then ones done solely for sponsorship. I think there is a good place you can find in between the two extremes, where you make games for fun, and make them as good as you can, and new and w/e, but still have sponsorship at the end a possibility and motivator.

Hmm, heaven forbid someone make a game for the sake of making a quality title that provides a genuinely unique and memorable experience. However, you're right. As long as smaller, generic games are getting sponsored, people aren't going to stop making them. Although, that's not to say that all games coming out are generic carbon-copies, thankfully.

I remember that site... I went on it for like... ever. But then it got repetitive.

Too tired for the Wii

It's kinda sad... I just got the new Metroid Prime game right, but I got home last night and was too tired to play. Not only that, I'm sore. Typing, of all things, is even hard for me.

Also, hey.

I've gone and become an SSBB addict... what to do, what to do...

I went back home over the bank holiday weekend, where my brother keeps our Wii (because we share it as part of a Christmas present from last year, and it's easier for me to commute back home to play it rather than him come to see me). And he had a few new games for me to play since I last saw it. My body ached after playing many matches of Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Mario Strikers Charged and Wario Ware. And I'm all the more convinced I should buy my own.

Didn't work to well on mine either. I have a mac also but it's not that it didn't work, it was just kind of slow and it was hard to control the tank to where you want it to go. WASD would work much better. Haha, Luis yells at me when I don't have it set for those and instead have arrow keys.

I've read that before, most of it is good advice, but "Place the navigation right in the middle"? That's just silly.

Yeah, when have you ever seen the navigation bar right down the centre of the page?

Firefox Addons
The other day i came across "top 50 firefox addons"Here and got the Adblock plus, Stumbleupon, and Del.icio.us bookmark tool. And i have to say, they are fantastic. I would advise the Stumble Upon one especially, i am finding cool sites i never knew existed. The popup blocker blocks every single ad. I mean i haven't seen one ad since i got it. del.icio.us isn't remarkable but for some reason, having it makes me bookmark lots more websites.

Stumbleupon is a cool site, I just went on there, cliked animation, found this cool flash, I get how it works, dunno if I could do it...but it's cool anyway.

Cookies

The internet ones, I find that most problems with my computer that anti spyware actually gets rid of are cookies, so I set my firefox option to let me decide which cookies I allow on my computer, does anyone else do this? It takes a few clicks when I get to a new site but I think it's worth it.

Re: Metroid\

Metroid Prime 3 is such an awesome game, the controls feel just awesome, and the graphics are really good (especially for wii)

I'm annoyed that I got stuck the last time I was playing so I am not motivated to go play it right now lol.

Metroid Prime 3

Ya, I rented it a few days ago, and have been giving it a bit of play time each night. Like you said, it really does control great, and the graphics are great as well.

I haven't gotten stuck yet, but I may be very soon if I'm remember where I am right now. Hopefully not though.

metroid owns

I've been a huge fan of the metroid games since prime came out (went back and played the old ones like super metroid too. Almost makes me wish i had a SNES with my genesis).

And MP3 owns too. It controls so well.

Makes me wonder why bioshock is getting better reviews. I mean, they're both amazing, but bioshock has a lot of repetition to it while so far every bit of MP3 has has it's own bit of creative flair. Every room looks distinct, all the bosses so far are creatively engineered, the puzzles are hard but at the same time fun to solve.

It's like... such a good game that I DON'T want to play it through in a week like i normally do for games. I want it to last but at the same time I want to be ably to play it a bit all the time.
