Flash Game Site Lawsuits

I just tried to find one through google for a few minutes, couldn't find anything. If anyone has any examples where legal action has actually been taken, or anything defining the legality of using other's materials on the web, that would be very interesting, so get looking.

Holidays and Sky

A couple of days before I went to greece, we got Sky (tv and broadband). 11 days later and they still dont have the balls to connect us to the internet, dispite them saying they would be done before our holiday. ATM, Im leaching off next door - but I dont see anything wrong with that, we're still paying for an internet connection.

Well, anywho, holidays was good.

Whats really wrong is he didn't pay ICANN to obfuscate his domain registration details.
If you're going to piss people off, at least make sure your website can't give away where people should send angry mobs!

Where do people legally stand in this? I'm assuming a few people have set up thier games to either read URLs or phone home (possibly via MochiBot, or possibly back to THIER website for the crossdomain.xml tricks...) which should add some security. But I'm also assuming that the guy might have reverse engineered some people's games using a decompiler to evade such pithy measures. So at the very least people have him over the barrel for theft, and possibly for some type of copyright violation...

All I suggest is keep your hatemail and threatening phone calls legal and legitimate. Be polite to the bastard, and if you're using Skype, turn on a sound recording app and turn the line in volume up. You wouldn't want to lose valuable evidence / blackmail / sound for a hate-flash for when this turns sour...

thought I should post this.

Hosting games is one thing but selling them in a package is just wrong.

It's a little annoying, but people are pretty hypocritical about stuff like that. If you're not pissed off by somebody making cash by sticking your games on a webpage with like sixty ad groups, why's it so much worse to just sell them directly?

The only difference between this guy and the thousands of other assholes that the Flash scene's willing to overlook is that he's cutting out the middle man and being slightly more honest about it.

Besides, traffic eh?

I hinted earlier that I got my inspiration for some of my techniques from ren & stimpy toons.. where did you get some of your style from? Sorry back to flash talk now... new page.

Inspirations

Oh man, for sure. I love the Ren and Stimpy style. Although I haven't really tried out their techniques.
But one thing I love about those cartoons is the still close up shots that show every little bit of detail and texture, with more elaborate shading and stuff. That's one thing I want to bring in to my future work.
I really dont have a style. For some reason I use fbf and tweening and the pencil tool as well as the brush tool....whatever fits i guess.
Maybe one day I will have my own recognisable style.

Yay, after a long wait my new iMac arrived today! I'm so happy I could hug all of you, and I seldomly hug total strangers when sober.

Totally agree with you it is hypocritical.
I think what irks me in this situation though is the fact that went out of his way to claim that he got clearance for it.. it slightly irks me when people take my shit but i understand it being the internet but when you go selling it saying that i approve it then that is crossing the line.

Well for me the irony of it all is that if he reallly WOULD HAVE approached me and said hey im gonna sell this list of games ive spent time to find and i just wanted to know if i could use your game in my list... i would have probably said ok.

It's.... 'ok' for people to sell their 'time and effort' for the service they are providing for you but he shouldnt claim that he has clearance from authors when he clearly doesnt... thats what annoys me about it...

For the record, its okay for people to sell instructions or lists of the best websites or games ... obviously morons who buy it make the whole thing silly... i read through his shit and if hes just selling a php script that hotlinks games and he never really possesses the games then what hes doing is legit... but like i said having his 'clients' gain confedence that all the developers have endorsed / approved his doing it is what makes him a sleezeball.

When they host a game of mine, i get traffic from it so it's almost symbiotic.

However when someone is selling a game of mine in a pack, I'm not getting any traffic from him directly, even though I might get a little traffic from the people he sells games too.

Anyway it's like selling a CD of limewired songs. Limewiring a few songs, while illegal, isn't really that bad compared to selling them.

Style

My style... I think im mostly borrowing it from manga, I used to listen to all of the boring manga back in time when i was about 8. Now im still listening to em but more naruto and bleach. I cant say i have a manga style of animation but some of it is borrowed from it. And for my inspiration, sometime i wake up in the middle of the night all shaky with an heavy breath with TEH idea for my flashes.

I'm glad we can have a discussion in this thread without the constant stream of, "let's go kill this guy!"

I think at the very least the kid should be honest about it. He may not be doing anything illegal, but he sure is lying about asking permission for the content.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-08-28 12:22:25

If he's lying about the fact that he asked the permission well it is illegal lol. And btw i would sue this guy if he steal sumthing from me.

Inspiration

I am completely in love with cowboy bebop, obviously there isn't much to show for me to say it's influenced my style, but it definitely influenced how I want to animate, I always want to do a bunch of zooming and action....even though I don't have the skill quite yet.

I get a lot of inspiration from the works of Hayao Miyazaki. Not so much the art style, but the stories and places from most of the movies. I'm also inspired by a lot of things here on Newgrounds.

Gah, I hate it when that happens (which is pretty much every time I open flash). I can't force myself to be bothered enough to do more than start a flash movie.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force's lack of animation is only out done by Little Bush. It's comedy is something to admire, maybe the art, but animation is something it can't boast.

Inspiration

My inspiration to actually animate came from Dim (SFB) of all people, but my style is a mix between manga and "Ed, Edd, n Eddy". I like the character styles in manga, and Ed's was great because of the simple drawing and animaiton.

Tattoo Update And Crap

I just got back on NG just a few mins ago and was happy to see my NG Mullet King Gen. on the frontpage. :) Also happy to get my first front page. ^^ Anyway I gotta add a few dozen more facts poeples sent me for that and try reprogramming it with arrays sometime today.

Now to the tattoo. Apparently it's hard to get a tattoo on the inside of my lips as it's nearly impossible to keep dry so it would fade and get damaged almost for sure. So now I'm trying to find a new place to get Angry Faic on me. I'm thinkin' the back of my neck or one of my knuckles now.

Flash Inspiration

I dunno really, I generally turn on flash after watching something I've enjoyed. Generally keep motivated with work from great Newgrounds animators like Adam Philips and Luis.

I thought people get tattoos on the inside of their lips for the reason that it fades away after a while.

Inspiration
My daily dose of inspiration comes from here. There's also http://feedmecoolshit.com and Computer Arts magazine. They don't really relate to traditional fbf animation but the different styles of all the artists are inspiring.
Also, I agree with Luis that using styles that have already been experimented with by other artists is OK. It's not like they thought up of the style from nowhere, they were inspired by something else. Nobody is unique, though you might think you are.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-08-28 17:45:42

Fadeing Tats.

It would in the inside of lip yeah. But after you get a tat you wanna keep it dry for a week or two. All the spit and crap wouldn't really keep it dry. If the scab gets rubbed off by your spit or teeth or whatever it can damage the tat. So Angry Faic could end up havin' 1 eye or somethin'.
So I'm looking for a new spot now. :P

RE: The Josh 'stealing' guy

That topic is closed on this thread.. theres a whole nother one made by Glaiel created for that please no longer drag that topic into this page. It's turning ugly and people feel that because someone offended them that they can barge in and post malicious ideas to get back at him. that was never allowed regarding ebaums and that wont be allowed regarding that person.. do not post his personal info of any kind on the public forum you will be banned 20 days. dont even test your luck, i already got rid of one person. Zero tolerance about that.

I love looking at good flash portfolios, some of the stuff is awe inspiring, and it really helps me get motivated. Games are a good way to get ideas aswell, i might look at a engine in a game, and try and see how they did something, and try to do it in flash. Doesn't work most of the time though :P.

New PC :D

I just finished putting together my new beefed up dual core pc. It's playing bioshock at a delicous 50fps :D. Anyone else here getting a new pc?

I got a really wierd one from a guy telling people that the rule about sharing NG accounts should be removed. I don't remember the reason, but he seemed to kinda overreact over it. The PM wasn't personal, so it seemed he PM'd a lot of people.

let them find it dont give people ideas.. im getting really tired of people making us who are dealing with the issue diplomatically look bad because some users are being immature and malicious about it. You will fail as a professional if your idea of getting back at some other person in the industry is to key his car.
