It doesnt me but it's been on my mind a little. What I dont like seeing is Mindchamber having a go at sponsors and such, saying things like 'kiddies (as in we) whoring out for a quick buck', well yeah, but we're not making money here y'know?

It's not the money so much as the total lack of appreciation. I don't have any problem with sites which ask for permission, or at least show some indication of appreciation or awareness of the author. It's the cynical 'games go in, cash comes out' sites which get me. Sites which seem to see game authors as mindless robots which don't need any acknowledgement.

To be fair to Cptn Bitchy, there does seem to be a large saturation of uninspired games made mainly or solely for sponsor money. It's usually fairly apparent which authors make games for money and which ones gain sponsorships as a little bonus money for something they were making anyway.

I dont know why Mindchamber says stupid things like that.

If we're unemployed, underaged kids who enjoy making flashs, and other people are making people out of our hard worked flashes (newgrounds, ebaums, armorgames) then surely we should get some sort of cash reward? :(

To be honest MC says alot of bullshit things... like when he was sulking about lordbling... as if that site wouldve gone anywhere anyway.

it may be true that not ALL of us have seen profit from NG's success, but to say Tom's never given back would be a complete like. 10 users every month get freebies, and there are plenty of other contests that go on throughout the year that give out free stuff. Sponsorship isn't WHORING, it's' payment for a service. I want to be a graphic designer. Just because what I think I'm doing is art, doesn't mean I should feel bad for trying to make good money from it. I dunno, maybe I'm talking out my ass...

Well, I'm probably not gonna be here for a while (and just when I beat the 1000 mark). My mom got my dad's house (it involves divorce and a nursing home, blech), so in the last two days, we've moved everything to another trailer (although it be a nicer one) ten minutes up the road. This is the 5th time since school started last year that I've been involved in moving. What with moving into my dorm, moving into another dorm (by foot), moving into another dorm (by foot), and then finally coming home, it's been pretty exhausting. Then, i about 15-20 days, I'm going to have to move again to Pittsburgh. But I'm looking forward to that. Living in Oakland with good friends will be the bomb.

I was gonna put a real long response here but i dont feel like dividing myself from the community. I dont agree with everything Mindchamber believes but its safe to say that theres a slew of developers that were born with a sponsors dick in their mouth. Tom's always made a case that theres choices out there, he never came off as a sleezebag that will do anything to keep your business (ie movies/page views etc) here... he doesnt block out armor games / competitors etc... if you want to make money go make money i dont know what the problem is.

I think the issue that mindchamber or that i have, is that kids whore themselves out cranking out the same shit everyone else is doing, saturating the scene. Lets face it, you people that do this arent in this scene because you love the medium.. youre here because you have a new xbox you need to have. Is anyone stopping you from having that mindset? not at all by all means go for it if thats what you want. Dont quit school thinking the sponsor machine is going to feed you and your future generations off the bullshit games you make tho... Kenney is prime example of what happens when you put all your faith and dreams on a sponsor making 2 min games and then have that 'easy check' suddenly pulled from you. Now youre left with mediocre games that dont at all do justice to what your potential is.. you couldnt put it in your portfolio and impress anyone for a job. Enjoy your xbox because all the work you did went for nothing in the greater scheme of life. Thats whoring. Its different from having large pricetag games sponsored and really pushing yourself and the scene to the next level. Whoring refers to people who are just leveling out because they think the scene will feed them forever and its dangerous for you to even think that to be honest.

Problem is, a 'quick buck' means alot more to us than to him ;D But I agree 100% with you!

Furthermore, NG runs its business with a different angle than other sites. You have to realize that the minute you step into the front door.

The site is more community based, it gains your pageviews/visits by nurturing and encouraging you to create and express yourself.

Heres your userpage for you to share your opinion on, heres some forums to bitch about sponsors, heres tutorials to get you started with flash, heres links on where you can buy flash, heres preloaders so your movie preloads, heres an audio portal for you to find audio, heres a portal for you to share your things with an audience waiting to see it.

Its a different mindset, and theres some people who dig that and get into the site for years and years like me, and theres others that figure hey theres no money im leaving.

For those that leave, theres a site built for THAT mindset too.. for instance theres some sites that reward you with money and prizes for being more active on the site, they arent so much interested in the things NG is interested in for getting you inside the door. Thats totally fine, its simply a different business angle to gain your business. The are built and succeed because they cover a niche that ng doesnt. You have to see it all as a business, different businesses use different business models. Some pay you to visit and submit, some are more about investing alot on the tools for expressing yourself and hoping that in turn you will be motivated enough to submit. But i mean nobody at ng twists your arm for it, you could waltz in take audio from the AP, rip the code from their preloaders, etc etc and not submit to the portal at all.

I haven't felt this psyched up about making a game since I started Flash, and not I've not a reasonable level of experience to back it up :D Anyone else feel like this when starting to learn a new technique or scripting language or whatever?

It's from 2006 so someone might've posted about it before but not that I know so, anyway here it is.

Ya, he co-hosted for a week a while back. It was cool because at that time, he did a small segment about what was hot on NG at the time.

He did a follow-up a while later over cam I believe about the same thing, but I don't remember seeing him again after that.

Well if it makes you feel any better, the whole movie doesnt show just the first 10 seconds or whatever so really the only people who really got airtime were tommy and whoever was after him and dookiemoole i believe... probably better that way cause it becomes very marijuana based after that lol.

Anyway they didnt show it with the music and if you ever seen that piece thats sort of the whole point of it. GR.

The reason why we submit stuff here is to get supportive reviews, and for that I think Tom deserves the money. He put alot of work into this website (sure he gets money because of our work, but it's worth the support that we get in return).
