I define a generation as any distinct image of who the regulars are at the time. There are of course gonna be a few who carry through, but the population of the flash forum generally flushes and refills every now and then, with only a few familiar faces left over. As such, I feel that I have been around for three generations, and that there were probably 3 or 4 before me. The previous gen would be around the time of the original reg's lounge. Cleaver, Axl, qwertypod, Stickmoose, Mercurius, etc. People from that time still around would be Inglor, Tom, and Afro. Before that, I can't remember most of the names. Chriz2Cool, titsomething, Freakapotimus, StuporSteve.
I'm second gen, right? I'm an Inglor, Toasty and Ninja boy through and through!
Either late second gen or early current, yeah.

That was awesome. Quite a memory that guy has. Even if I could draw that well in the first place, I would forget what the city looked like halfway through the drawing.

halfway? i would not be able to get 1/50'th of the way before completely forgetting everything.

It wasn't strictly calculated. You got my point.

Have you ever considered applying to Rockstar? Had a collegue drop me a tip earlier this week that they are heavily hiring art related positions over in the uk right now... id be so over there if i lived nearby. Sadly their studio in ny is not currently seeking art people atm.
They pay very well and who wouldnt want to work for the newgrounds of the gaming industry.

I have mucho respect for Rockstar. I've just downloaded the freebees they've been giving away again (Yay... GTA and GTA2... for research for my immenent December 5th Top Down Gamey thing), and have Canis Canem Edit on preorder.
I'll send off a CV to them on Monday. The problem is, I've already been refused by every other game studio in the UK. Hell, I've been refused by JAGEX.
I'm starting to completely lose hope for 3D Modelling as a career path now.

You can always be a 2D artist for them and do textures, menus, maps, and concept art and such.

Not sure if I actually have the qualifications for that. For concept and texturing they're looking for people with a minimum of skills at about, say, Luis' and AITD's at entry.

It's rare to do all off those things in any serious gaming outfit. They're all seperate careers in themselves.

Yeah competition is extremely tough. It sounds really fun to get a job at rockstar, but it's almost impossible if you just get out of college and aren't some 3d genius yet. Companies like that pay alot of salary but they really expect the best of the best from their employees. I think the best thing to do is start building a great portfolio like Tom and aquire uber skills in 3d modelling. Im sure you can pull it off if you work really hard Kayn!

theres no harm in applying to really ambitious companies.. the worst case scenario you'll just stick around their database.. and in working for a large corporate company i realized that companies sort of go through this rollercoaster in terms of their hiring.. theres people i worked with who just were in the system at the right time and they just squeeked in because the company had a need to fulfill quickly and they realize that provided that you know what youre doing, within a few weeks you can sort of see how the system works and sort of get in gear with the rest of the company. Production positions are almost never a one team battle so with time you can sort of find your niche within the team.

That seems to be all of them nowadays.
The rejection letters are piling too high for me to cope with. And juggling portfolio and Flash with 9-5 and my depressive/procrastinative streak is just making me burn out. To say nothing about my (lack of) social life.

Had a crazy night last night.
First I went to this party out of town. We got there, and the first thing we heard as we entered was this girl streaming with tears shout "This party sucks" in a whining crying voice.
We got drunk there, I smashed up the pumpkins and then we left, not forgetting to steal from the booze rack.
We went back to my town to this other house party that was going on. It was very cool like a American pie party. My friends I hadn't seen for a while were there to which was even cooler.
The stuff I remember from that party are, I through a can at my friends face after he shook one up over me. I was jumping around on a trampoline at one point with this kid I didn't know. I love how when you're fucked you just make friends with people through the strangest circumstances, last time it was while my head was dipped over a pond studying water ripples, this time it was a trampoline.
Then me and one of my friends who i'd turned up with were downloading Doors songs and the computer shut down completely. Before this i'd thrown chairs and stuff around in this room, and so left it quickly. Then about ten minutes later chav kids were raging around the house with random shouts of 'Who broke the computa!!?', and looking for the guy who'd done it.
Anyway, eventually we were the only people who got kicked out which was annoying I wanted to speak to my friend, and I had to wonder home alone as everyone else lived close by.
When I was walking home I heard some drunk people up this alleyway bit I was in, so I lay in the entrance to this hotel behind a tree for a while and almost fell asleep, I then trecked my way home over the many hills and got to my house, and a key was in the other side of the door so I couldn't get in.
So for about half an hour I lay outside my house trying to sleep. But then I realised I was too cold so had to ring my sister to let me in, I think this was about quater past 4.
Anyway that's about it, random shit just keeps coming back to me about how I minorly recked this girls house and I feel a bit bad for it.

lotsa crazy lastnighty stuff...
Wow, sounds like you had a really good time. Craziest party I've been to was a sleep over at a friends house and some guys starting sniffing sugar from sour keys and rolling on the floor in pain, then sticking cheesys in peoples noses whilst they sleep.

im really not much of a party guy. ive been half drunk twice, thats all. not even completely drunk, just a little wobbly. And both times was with my brother thousands of miles away from my actual home. Twas fun, but i have no desire to do it after doing it a couple times.
Oh snap! There was this music scholarship (pretty big, 10 grand a year) that I had auditioned for on September 5th (lol long time ago), and I was disappointed when I received no info on the results. It was almost worse than if I had not made it, because I was left in the dark. I even e-mailed the guy specifically (rather than just waiting for a response), and received no reply.
By this time, I assumed I hadn't made it, because it couldn't possibly take so long.
However, I just received an e-mail saying basically thanks for your patience, sorry it took so long, and that I am one of a couple of people still being considered! As if like they weeded out some people, and I still might get it!
I'm so happy, I had lost all hope. If I get it, I'm buying a new computer :D

I know, every time I manage to gather the balls to put myself out somewhere, that scene from Back to the Future always flashes by... "I don't know if I can take that kind of rejection."
Hasn't been many places, but I'm finding it's paying off to drop my name wherever/whenever it's remotely appropriate. Seems that word of mouth on the inside is becoming a hell of a lot more valuable than a resume. No one seems to even care if you've gone to school anymore for that matter...
If all else fails, get some real business cards made for yourself. They're a hell of an ego boost! =p

Just enough to kill myself there, Mr. Cruise =p
But yeah, it does seem to be a bullshit excuse for too many people.
Since when are kids NOT supposed to get bored in school and want to go out and play?
I wouldn't discard it entirely though... The brain's a pretty complex machine. To pretend we know how it works at this point is, I believe, pretty naive.

Ain't that the truth. AD(H)D is just an excuse for people, namely teachers and parents, to dope down their studnets/children so they aren't as nerve-racking. The thing about it is that very often they confuse creativity with attention deficiency. A creative student may just be getting bored of redundant assignments and is finding something better to do with his/her time than droning away at arithmetic. Not a very wise choice, but you can't expect a young child to make the right choices. But a worse choice is when the teacher or parent can't bother trying to get inside the childs head to see what is making him/her react, why the child isn't doing the homework. why the child doesn't seem normal, and then because of this lack of interest and devotion to time, the child is generally accused to have a short attention span and there is a miracle drug that will fix this!!
It's the way of the lazy to take short cuts at all costs and sure enough, these pills are just shortcuts shorting out creativity and potential futures for those lacking the freedom and knowledge to choose for themselves.
And there be my two cents.

I'll rephrase... the other way is just much more simple to type.
It is misdiagnosed and misprescribed 90% of the time.
In 80% or more of those cases, medication wasn't the only answer.
=)
I think if you can pay attention enough to learn how to use a computer effectively... you cannot have a disorder that states you have problem paying attention.

Then I'm happy to know that we can meet on this in complete agreement!
There's no ADHD in cheshireland, by the way.
Hell, I'd even go so far as to say that a 90% rate of misprescription is a liberal estimate. I'm sure it's still a bit higher than that, but yeah, for the sake of the argument that seems like a safe ratio.
It wasn't till I was quite a bit older that I was told how many times the doctors recommended I be put on these scary mind fucks we call medication. Thank god my mom went with her gut when it came to my development. I might have benefited from going to an art school instead of the standard public, but that's about it.
You're 26, so I'm sure you know how it was like. If not yourself, I bet you had a whole mess of friends whose parents bought into this crap. Seems like the mid 90's were the Pharmaseutical's version of Woodstock! Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have gotten any better since.
But man, I watched some really good friends of mine go down a spiral of shit because of the "easy answer". It's really sad. I remember when I was 14 saying about the parents of my best friend, "god damn, all you gotta' do is tell him you love him." I guess that's too hard for most parents to do though.
Sad.
