normaly when u do a system scan or something liek that, it will do it once.. my pc has now decided that any big action liek that now has to be done twice... so what usually takes 40 mins.. now takes 2 hours...

New Router

My old 100 dollar apple airport was starting to crap out so I decided to buy a new router a friend recommended a top of line netgear (which happens to only cost 80 bucks) so I went out and bought that...

My download and upload speed using a free bandwith speed test (I used the sme one on both systems) showed that my internet has no made my upload speed 5 times faster and my download speed 3 times faster.

I upload at 10mbps-11mbps and I download at around 7....
It somehow boosted connection above the recorded maximum off my ISP broadband speed.
Not bad and it was 20 bucks less...

I don't know if airport extreme is any better but for now no more apple routers, they really just try to cash in on brand name, even though I love all their other products.

I've replaced and added onto nearly everything in my power mac, except the processor dual 2 ghz is still faster than i need, but new graphics card new sound card and i swapped out the ram, which i'm about to upgrade again,

It doesn't work anymore. The only thing (most) people do nowadays is just post their work, nobody comments anymore. It was better in the pre-Art Forum days...

PCs and crap like that

I've not had any problems whatsoever with my PC. It runs everything, doesn't crash at all, and I can even tell it what shit I don't need running so it works really smoothly.

The rest of my family uses like exactly the same PC downstairs, and it runs like crap. Everything takes too long, and most programs seem to crash if you so much as look at them funny.

I'm guessing that it's something to do with the fact that I actually bother to scan for crap every now and again, don't pull the plug out every time I want to turn it off and don't download crap from banner ads every five seconds. Seriously, from personal experience, PCs work great so long as you have a basic amount of commonsense.

You shoudn't judge computer based off of what you see in school, 95% of the time they suck.

My school is stuck with old windows 98 computers and ancient g3 imacs, which they actually updated the OS on the imacs to OSX, forgetting that those old macs were made like 5 years before OSX so they run like crap now.

That, and the highest version of flash player on any of the computers save the ones that teachers let me download version 8 onto is flash player 5. Nearly every website is blocked now so flash player is useless anyway.

Also because everyone is alowed to use the computers in the school, they wear out really fast because of all the stupid stuff people do. OOO look I can change the wallpaper WEEE I can make it talk WEEE I can open up 500 webpages at the same time WEEE virus city!

Anyway the point is don't trust school computers, mac or PC.

How many of you guys have experience with these guys? I can't get into my Client area since I forgot my password since I've not used it since I set my site up, and for some reason sending me a new one is taking fucking forever. This is annoying as hell, seeing as I desperately need to upgrade my monthly bandwidth (it's already out), and I can't do that until I get my password sent to me. :(

Agreed, they have mac labs at my school and they run pretty poorly, and I'm betting alot of them are fairly new.
My 24 inch iMac that i got for christmas is fantastic.
Works like a beauty, in fact, the only program that has ever crashed is a microsoft program, msn.

And microsoft is douchey and won't make the latest version of MSN downloadable for macs so I can't do alot of stuff my buddies want me to.

Computers At School

At my school for the past 3 years, every student and staff member has been given a Sony Vaio laptop as a part of the 1:1 Laptop eLearning Initiative. Originally, the laptops had very limited restrictions. Of course, students and teachers abused their freedom and began doing things on the laptops that they weren't supposed to. By the second school year with them, we didn't even have a desktop, just a box with all the applications we could run. We couldn't run exe files but the students found a way around that too. Basically you would just need to copy the file name of iexplore and paste it, renaming the application you want to run. It works if you copy and paste though. This year was pretty much the same as last year. Next year, however, we will be getting MacBooks instead of Vaios. They will come pre-installed with FireFox, iLife, and MSOffice. In my opinion, this is a step in the right direction. Since the majority of students use their laptops for presentations, iLife and Keynote will make it much easier than having to use Microsoft Movie Maker and Powerpoint.

We are making a game composed of several small stories told by the regs. Whether this is an intrepetation of real-life stories or of a crime scene is yet to be determined. But at least we got that far :). Each will be small minigames/animations.
