I've been planning to start a collab here, and I have the BA from leading small 2-4 people collabs. I've been planning it for a while, and have all the necessary rules and stuff planned. I was just wondering if there is a chance that I won't get flamed for hosting "another collab"(sort of like how I'm probably going to be flamed for posting in the Reg Lounge).

If I have the BA, have experience with smaller collabs, have a detailed first post with the specs/rules/etc., have a good idea, and maybe even post an example of the layout or the menu, than will it just be overlooked and complained about like all of the other collabs flooding the forum?

If it's a great idea and the deadline/management is reasonable, it'll pick up interest.

Most folk are just tired of the slew of 'do whatever you want for x seconds of this song' collabs, which don't really have a particularly cohesive theme/style, nor offer any real potential for interesting interplay between the various artists.

Don't mods nominate people they think are capable of being a moderator? I think that works just fine.

Typically we count the number of times people use the word "mod" or "moderator" in their posts, and divide by the total number of posts. The person who gets the closest to 2% without going over (Price is Right rules), gets to be in.

Actually, we just wait until we need another mod, and decide based on who is well behaved, leads a good example, and has been around long enough to not suck and to be helpful. Usually people who ask jumping up and down with their hand up will not be picked.

Makes enough sense. Though i'm vaughely annoyed how everyone is all like "OMFG NOT ENOUGH MODS" looking at everything now, It looks fine.

I'm with Luis here. Besides, it's not Newgrounds' responsibility to sort out collabs - they're neither a huge part of the site nor necessarily hosted here. If you want an effective collab system then it's best being done on an external website.

I disagree with both of you. First of all, even if they decided to do some kind of collab system, it shouldn't delay the redesign because I assume the redesign would come out first. It's just another feature I was suggesting for the future.

And saying that it isn't Newgrounds "responsibility" is frankly a silly reason and that's putting it kindly. Newgrounds is a business. Businesses tap new markets to expand. I guess NG can wait for one of the copycat portal sites to come up with it but right now NG is the home of Flash collabs, so why not take advantage of that?

Seriously, Newgrounds has people BEGGING to make collabs with the community. A collab system can be huge. I mean sure the forum is great, but offering a service would be awesome. Just some way to organize collaborations would be beneficial.

Its fine that you disagree but i think youre wasting your time pming tom about setting up a collab system right now when theres other priorities, theres no way tom is going to even begin dealing with adding more features until the redesign is out and its bugs are ironed out.
I think some requests are all in the timing.

For the sake of being devils advocate and hardcore realist, I also think that no system is really going to 'build' better collab hosts. ng collabs didnt exactly breed endless strings of mindblowing collabs when it was at its prime.

Sorry if it came off that way, but I haven't PMed Tom about it, and I certainly don't plan to. I think it's a good idea, but I doubt Tom really has time to read things that I think are good ideas. I know he's VERY busy :)

I agree 100%. All I'm saying is I think the system would make collaborating EASIER, not produce better collabs. If better collabs come with better organization, then maybe, but all I'm suggesting is a system to aid in the organizing of collabs. It's not such a far fetched idea. Google has added it to their Google Docs service and it's awesome. Although it allows you and other people to edit the same document at the same time, it's just the basic idea of giving a platform to ease remote collaboration.

Anyway it got me thinking about how painless it would be to make a game like that.. none of this sponsor bullshit just somethin fun with some ng regs cameoing as teams... now to my actionscripting counterparts.. would that be semi doable from a programming standpoint?

Considering that practically every cartoon out there now uses Flash, yes, yes it is. However, don't cheap out and use tweens or all vector graphics, use more FBF.

Ah, frames are nothing. The ones I'm wearing now are about £20 and they look fine.

I have a shampoo I have to use once a day, and some odd paste to apply to my head (I'm scared of it - only used it once). I have some odd scalp thing where more skin is made than got rid of, so theres loads and loads of dead skin on my head.
