It's amazing what animation programs can do these days. Pretty nice eye candy. It's actually kind of funny how some animation studios can make such visually appealing backgrounds and stuff, yet the character appearance and animation sucks. Sometimes, Disney stuff can actually look better than it.

Either way, I think the collab is a great idea.

Bad partners
Anybody have expierence with them? Well I'm gonna go ahead and bitch. So I had a friend from a while ago who saw a test submission of mine on newgrounds, recognized my name sent me a PM asking me if I knew who he was. Turned out that it was someone who I hadn't talked to for 3 years.
Now we started talking on AIM he seemed like he had changed a bit from the immature person I knew him as, so we decided to collaborate on a game. At that point I knew absolutely no actionscript other than a basic button and he said he programmed. So naturally I came up with an idea for a game that I was doing the art for. He agreed and I started working my ass off on some main character walking jumping and throwing cycles, (luckily by worked my ass off I mean a total of 8 hours) I send them over with some test platforms so he could start programming.
He sends them back withing 20 minutes with a very clearly c+p pasted code that didnt' really match any of the visions I had. This should have tipped me off but it didn't, as I asked him to alter some things like basic problems with ammos and firing, (the game is a kick ass blend of platform and defense) he told me he was dropping the project. Now this should have tipped me off to stay away from him but whatever, he could code I couldn't and I had been wanting to do games for a while.
So a few months go by and he seems to become more knowledgable in actionscript and seemed to have putten time into learning how to not copy and paste codes so we start on yet another game, I (in the beginning) doing the art, him coding. I finish the art with less effort this time seeing as I'm a little wary and I ship it off to him. So I get back the file, and mind you it did kind of worked but very much not in the way we described. Some problems like things going all the way through the screen rather than ending on the mouse, things dieing after being hit with the non contact portins of the weapon and so on.
So I im him asking to fix these problems and of course I get a response with soemthing along the lines of "I can't its impossible". I started to figure out work around for things taht were in no way difficult solutions to this problem. And after hours of frustration I got most of the bugs to work of the basic game. Yet I still didn't have the knowledge to work out some of the bugs in the scrolling bg, so i drop that for now.
Fairly satisfied with myself I send it back hoping he can do some more work on it, of course a month or so passes and he's completed nothing. So I can't think of soemthign to work on and I open it up, by this point I had pretty much supassed his coding ability look at the syntax and see how inefficient it is. It's pretty much just 250 onClipEvent things that are completely unecessary and contradict each other. So I delete everything and re do the entire engine from scratch. I near complete the game add a non bugged scrolling background and try to implent many of my original ideas, that still I don't have the knowledge to work out. now i talk to him again and send him the game again at this point is near completed except for some monotonous variable work about score. Now I know him in real life so I feel even if I complete the game as I had been entirely on my own I couldn't get out of co-authoring him, which I still feel is inappropriate. So I im him and ask him to complete these things in order to feel like at leaste he had done a little bit of work.
Two weeks later and it still hasn't been done. I figure I'll complete the basics without any of the powerups I envisioned and will work on those once I have the knowledge. Still possibly co-authoring because I'd feel bad if I didn't, even though 99% of the game will have been completed by then.
In short, just because you know someone, doesn't make them a good partner and be careful whom you work with.
Sorry felt like saying that, anyone else have problems with partners?
Midnight animation
Midnight animation scares me somthing cronic... At midnight all I want to do is either drink more or sleep.
Is anyone working on a tan?

Bull.
Tan people are outdoors more, so obviously they spend less time on their butts owning it up with aneemasheeyons.

Well, contrary to popular belief, animation is based on real things and how they move...so people who spend time in the sun watching, say, fat people run, are much better at animating.
Unless they have TiVo

blargh both are boring but id rather sync a song, but then again id rather be able to drive. ): this thing is soo boring since almost all of it is common sense, and if i dont pass the test on my first go my parents will be really pissed
i failed my first. and yes.
btw who is this jamrock you all speak of
None

Yeah most of it seems like common sense but on the test some of the questions are hard. I got like 5 or 6 wrong which is close to failing. You should read the whole thing because really no one fails the permit test, but you really need to know the little details. Even if you just memorize the stuff in the book it's OK because when you go for your road test you don't have to know any of the stuff and you never need to take the written test again.
And Luis, did you fail your road test or permit test? Or both LOL.
At 5/25/07 11:04 PM, hashbrown wrote: Read the Drivers handbook for a permit OR sync a song for my rockout game
I skimmed the book and got to 15 questions then died my first time.
Seecond time I crammed for the half hour drive over and passed with flying colors.
It's not hard.
At 5/25/07 11:53 PM, hashbrown wrote: thanks, i know most people pass it on their first go or pass it on their second. i guess i should keep an eye out for things i need to memorize since the arent common sense, also how many questions is the test out of
I believe 25 or 30, but I could be wrong because I took it more than a year ago. I believe like 7 or more wrong is failing.
The good part is the alcohol questions because those are all common sense.

At 5/25/07 11:57 PM, hashbrown wrote: oh and i also wanted to know if i needed to know license classes and stuff, all that stuff in the beggining or is it just what you do on the road
You don't need to know license classes. Just stuff like traffic laws, road signs (they give you like a sheet with them to use for questions), and a lot on alcohol. I remember one of my questions was something like:
After drinking an alcoholic beverage, which one of these can make you sober?
A) Cold shower
B) Coffee
C) Something sweet
D) Nothing, only sleeping
That's common sense because you know what answer they want you to give them.
I'm kinda in to the stuff because I just got my license so I'm pretty aware of the process now :) BTW, some of this stuff might be a little different for where you live, because I live in New York.
taking the test is all aboubt luck mostly.. some people get the piss easy questions and some get the questions that are like easy but you dont really think of or whatever.. like how many feet behind a firetruck and shit.

On the Road
I passed my written test, but still got about 5 wrong.
The first time I took my road test I failed that, I couldn't pull off a 3 point turn in my mom's minivan without hitting a cone. The second time I did remarkably well.
Getting your drivers license in Arizona is the shit because your license doesn't expire for about 40 years, which is totally awesome. When I got my New York license I was kind of bummed out because it only lasts for 5 years... oh well, I'm moving to Colorado in a few months anyway so it doesn't really matter much to me.

Good work man. I got my P's on last Monday...and it is fucking awesome. You feel so free, no more getting lifts off parents and friends.
One thing that sucks on your L's, is of course the fact that you always have someone sitting next to you watching your every move.
And also the 80km speed limit for L's means you have to pretty much keep in the left lane on freeways and highways while everyone else passes you.
What are you driving? Manual or automatic?

Manual, I'm going to get my manual license but buy an automatic because I am lasy.
So what car have you got? I think I might buy a BMW 318I for my first car, or a shiney Mazda. Most Mazdas look really nice.

ehm, no :P the reason it might seem a bit off, im assuming by the height at which it bounces from nothing, thats because along with directional forces being applied by the player, theres also two key inputs you can use to apply forces to compress it into the ground, and another to make it be forced off of the ground, so you use them in conjunction to make it bounce off of the ground un-naturally high.

Animation Midnight Duel
I honestly would be interested into that. I'd love to duel someone in an animation -- that would be very interesting and very fun. Creative as well.
Luis - "Jamrock"
One thing I do know is I've met Jamrock before and a matter afact he's has a femine body and he's very sexy. As you can see in the picture below. For some god damn reason Krinkles showed up and started bothering us those. That damn bitch. Along with Tom and Cheshirepus :(
All I know is that he can't be Luis because Jamrock is far way sexier than Luis anyday.
We look sexy together<3

Disney havn't made somehthing good in a while (Pirate excludeded) mainly cuz they just have pixar (?) and other companys they've bought to do the work and they get the credit.. c'mon..
disney movies like snow white 3, lion king 3, beauty and the beast 3, fox and the hound 2, peterpan 3 suck and are straight to video/dvd things. they've pretty much made a seqel to all their movies by now.. it's rather pathetic..
they used to be good :(

Haha, fair enough. Its cool that your getting a manual license. But id recommend getting a manual car aswell. It makes driving a lot less boring and gives you more control.
Me and my brother share a manual 1991 corolla, wasnt too expensive or flash, yet it's pretty reliable. Driving it to uni and shit is wicked.
Make sure you get a good stereo system and sub with whatever you get.
So how old are you?

uhh dont worry I looked at your profile. Yeah I got my L's when I was 16, but its taken me forever to get my P's cause ive been really lazy with getting my 50 hours, its taken me almost 2 years, im turning 18 on tuesday.
