Some just sound right how they are, png, fla etc. But some i say how they look if they were a word

I actually have a bad habit of saying "ping" for PNG, but I whole-heartidly say "swiff", "giff", "Fla", and "Jaypeg".

It's great when the techy kids don't get what I'm talking about :3

My sister has it on her laptop and finds tons of great stuff with it. I still need to download it, but it is a nice little thing to have.

As to what you were saying, I agree. The main problem I have with some stuff on this site is that it's slow and boring. It may look good, but I don't want to see a slideshow, I want to see an animated movie. A good example is Dad's Home. It really doesn't look that good compared to others that were/are in the Top 50 (Xombie, Brackenwood movies, etc) but it's fast-pased and entertaining.

About animationmentor.com, I was unaware they had a new showcase reel out. I saw one of their previous ones, and the stuff the people there do is really great. I actually plan on applying to do that program soon possibly, as it looks very appealing.

Animation mentor etc

I liked their article on getting into character it was pretty well written.

I was looking at the reel or whatever and actually i found most of the demos in it to be too overdramatic for my taste, they feel forced. Also I think its tough for people to do that in Flash because its so deeply time consuming, to be animating or redrawing every single frame for the sake of subtlety...

I think its all relative and some animations just 'work' without the fluff.

I see flash animation as being very different from traditional animation and 3d animation. Flash is a tool very much concerned with optimization and streamability, its an embrace of 2d animation in a 21st century world. A world that doesnt necessarily demand that you follow the old ways of 2d cel animation. And in that sense, i think its perfectly acceptable for artists to take shortcuts and streamline the process be it by incorporating tweens or snipping out the fluff. I think that the challenge for the Flash artist is getting their characters to a point where they can show their personality and do so in a streamlined manner.

I think that Picos Unloaded is a good example of it, the frames are so well chosen, some might say even very choppy in the transitions but it strips it down to just the right information you need to know and i like that. You get a real sense for pico's personality without necessarily needing 200000 frames of frame by frame constant motion.

I agree in that regard. I've lurked on some other animation forums, where people asked for criticism on their 3D work, and a lot of it was tweaking small subtle details to make it look smoother. The same could be done in Flash, but as you said, you'd have to redraw something over and over, possibly many times, which would take a lot of time. Seems most people would rather just do enough and make it look pretty good, and not tweak tiny details, which is understandable.

Although, like anything, with practice, it will generally get faster and come more naturally, I am sure.

Animation Evolution

Tom and jerry had amazing animatino, then animation kinda got less, animated.. now alot of it is done in 3d < simpsons movie anyone?>

Motion capture is widely used to make thigns look life like.. but P.N.0.3. dind't use motion capture, that game looks amazing.

I do like the "over done" acting and constant movement i think it gives it a more natural look even if it is over done.

But like Luis said in flash subtle things like that that a shit load of work.

Although i like 3D animation i think there should be a lot more 2D maybe becuase i grew up with 2D animated films.

The newer generation are growing up with all the 3D i can't think of any 2D films that came out lately the only 2D stuff left i can think of is stuff like The Simpsons and Family Guy apart from stuff on the internet though.

Third Axis

So since we are tlakgin of aniamtion in 2 and 3 dimensions..

Third Axis's in flash, usfull or hjust plain hard to use?

i prefer to use shapetweens and such to give the illusion of 3d, always more fun.

This may be a whole different topic that I'm about to announce and would like to discuss. Yet, here I go. Bare with me here.

How do you release your feelings?

Some of you may call this topic "emo", but that would happen everywhere. I can't stand the word, honestly --- stereotype but I don't want to get you guys started. This is just a question I'm asking all of you Newgrounders.

"How do you release your feelings, emotions, problems, and opinions"

Rather than having them build up in yourself and letting them explode out eventually...
This can be a very artistic or ..different viewed topic. For example, I release my feelings on paper... I like to write. I would write a poem or even write a story about a boy with the same problems we all face.

Or I might even draw a nice little picture in my sketchbook. Recently, I've been writing in a blog or livejournal to let people read what I face everyday. It's easier to get feedback. I can open up to an open journal, better than I can open up to specific people when put on the spot.

Yesterday, I bought a "Blank Book." It's just a ordinary Sketchbook with blank pages on it. I'm hoping to make it into something creative with anything. Drawings - Poems - Writings. It's kind of like a journal but more advanced.

Enough about me. Tell me how you release your feelings.
Please, I'm interested.

If you don't want to discuss this, that's fine. I'm just very curious.

Don't give anyone any ideas. You may be held responsible ;)

At 3/21/07 01:32 PM, fuzz wrote: Why, you going through a tough time rudy?

Luis knows how I get sometimes. I've been recently bothered my stupid kids in school calling me names and shit like that. It's hard to deal with when you hear it constantly by the same group of kids. I get called "gay" alot because I like to write and draw.

Another thing I get called behind my back alot is "emo" because of my long hair and my poems once AGAIN.

Eh whatever.

My friend Davis punches holes in his walls. I talk to him alot about it though, and it usually calms him down. We usually just get through the situations. Like when I see a whole in his wall I pull out a notebook, and I start doodling some goofy picture and I tape it over the wall.

note: his mom gets mad for holes in his wall..so the pictures hide the holes and mom stays happy :D

I used to literally not let out my emotions at all when I was younger. It actually meant that I got headaches all the time, like really bad ones. It sucked. Eventually I got these homeopathic things which supposedly allowed me to vent my emotions. I seem to remember whn I took them I really vented.
Anyway, now I'm more vocal and just say what I think most of the time.
I was getting really pissed off over the weekend because my plans had been all fucked up. I went to the freezer (in my cellar) to get a pizza and it was pretty much frozen shut, with all the frost shit that collects in freezers. It's been like that for ages and I was just feeling mad so I grabbed a spanner from nearby and smashed all the ice to pieces allowing the freezer to close properly. I felt a lot better afterwards. It was pretty fun. Then I went and ate the pizza and watched a film.
I think I'm still pretty bottled up emotionally but I get by.

it IS a pretty emo topic btw

Well emo is short for "emotion" so they both are the same. Odd how emo is used as a negative term these days though, rather then Goth anymore.

Exactly. It is supposingly a short term for "emotion" or "emotional."
The meaning is so far stretched these days into something totally more. It's a stereotype these days, rather than goth. I hardly hear that word anymore. When I hear kids behind me go look at the kids go into hot topic... It used to be look at the goths. Since Emo was brought into this world it was stretched to a whole different meaning... loosing the old meaning..and in with the new.

I really can't wait for this word to die out...like goth did.

emo-goth
I'm not a hundred percent sure if Goth is dead though, I think a Goth is a more extreme Emo, emos are kids into the general pop rock today (MCR, AFI LOL). But Goths are more extreme as in they tend to dress really really dark with the proper atire and accesories, whilst emos are kids who wear the proper atire slightly udner toned and have black hair and usually a cliche flip or odd cut.

Whoa its me!

Rudy is Emo

May if you just came to terms with the fact that you ARE emo you wouldn't have a problem. The problem is you THINK its a bad thing. Its like closet gays who hate being called gay because they don't want to be thought less of. Fact is this entire topic is you trying to cope with being emo. I'm not being offensive, its just how it is. I'm a little emo, I have long hair and shop at Hot Topic(don't tell anyone, I'm terrible ashamed) but my hair is far too long to be considered what you might call emo. I also don't wear a lot of black or tight jeans, or listen to emo music, and I'm not very emotional. I'm more the apathetic grungy-type.

One more thing, those people who were called goths were never goths. Goths were from the 80s and then like 6 years ago it became cool to pretend you were gothic, it was like the first step towards the invention of emos.

OH TEH NOES, EMOS!

That makes sense. Emo is a style and as much as people joke about it, theres really nothing wrong with it. If you feel bad about being called emo then you hate emos which means you hate yourself and should change imediatly.

Whoa its me!

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-03-21 16:28:34

EMO!

Well, I wouldn't say emo is bad.

I mean, looking at the style of music, frankly, there are some bands that I do like from that genre of music. I mean, Fall Out Fags and Panic! at the Fudge Packery totally suck and I wouldn't be caught dead listening to it. But, a lot of the underground bands or lesser known.

Also, I do shop at Hot Topic. Granted, I don't by any of the shitty emo band shirts or the skied bracelets, or the chained pants, but I have to admit, they have some funny ass gamer shirts.

As far as writing poetry and shit goes, yeah, I've done my share. I mean, I will sometimes do it to get some things out of my head, but other times I've done it for Valentine's Day and the like or just gifts. It's fun and it usually makes a good gift.

As for the hair, that's odd. I don't think I've ever heard anyone be called "emo" for having long hair. Personally, I have shoulder length hair. To me, stereotypical "emo" hair is dyed black and combed across. If anyone called me emo, I would probably have to punch them.

As for me, I'm a metal kid. The dislike of anything emo runs through my veins. On top of that, I had a gay emo stalker. Yes. Gay. Emo. Stalker.

Now, I can deal with a stalker. I can deal with gay people. I can even deal with emo people sometimes. But not all at once. He stalked me for a fucking week. Ugh... disgusting. He even drew yaoi. YAOI.

So... aside from their stance of life being against everything I stand for, their music sucking *for the most part), and the fact that I was hit on by one, I hate them.
