Re: BritishMoose's new submission!

I really liked it, I feel so peaceful now. I'm glad you used that animation into something (I remember seeing a bit of it somewhere, for a collab or something). Anyways, great effort.

Luis

I'm saddened that you feel the need to Americanize your name. :-(

BritishMoose

I generally liked it, and I might have given it a five but it was a bit short. I was considering a three but I decided a four would be best. I wanted to see what the birdman wanted with that female...

I fivend it brit. btw if you plan on doing that minitoon piece, do it soon we wnaa get the submission out as soon as possible.

Until now, I'd never really bothered attemtping to make a tile based game. It all seemed prett y pointless to me; what's the point of using tiles when you have more feedom not using them?

I don't think you get less freedom using tiles. After all, everything eventually comes down to squares on a computer anyway (unless people are suddenly using hexagonal pixels), and the file savings and processor saving you get for using a list of bitmaps over levels of art based graphucs is more than worth the occasional limitation you may come up with for having to set everything as a grid.

It's good you've spotted the benefits of tiles. Maybe we'll get a tile renaissance? ^_^

Invasion

At 3/10/07 11:39 PM, FlameAlchemist wrote: Anyone hear of the Chan invasion coming up? Could it be the [KK] all over again?

why is it there is at least one thread or mention of a chan invasion every few days here on newgrounds!?

serously.. no one cares..

Tile based games

for a second i was like, 'what, tile based.. like sonic?' then i relised what your on about...

i think those games are ok but are rather limited..

there was an internet game a while ago, no idea what happend to it, it was called somehting like.. " castle adventures" or something.. basicly , huge tile based game you could downlaod and make your own 'dungeons' and such.. no idea what happend to it..

but if a game like tht was to be done in flash, with the whole make your levels idea still in place, that'd rock...

i can barly get my head around basic game AS let alone tiles and stuff..

Britishmoose's new movie
i 5'd ;)
wish you guys were that 5 and review crayz when i submitted my game the other day < link in sig>

Tile based games
All this talk of tile games has got me thinking. Has anyone played Heroquest or Darkworld? They are tile based boardgames that take place in dungeons, they're like warhammer but with tiles.
How hard would it be to make that into a flash game, that would be awesome. If someone had the set they could pretty much just use all the same levels.

I used to love Warhammer 40k. I was in it for the painting though, I only played a couple times, it was alright. Painting was a lot more fun. Of course, Warhammer sucked all the money of forever out of my pocket, so I don't do it anymore. It's far to expensive.

I own a copy and a half of Heroquest. I was going to repaint all the figures but I sprayed them with too thick a paint. So I'll have to try and carefully apply some turps to the paint, whilst avoiding the actual plastic.

I really have issues painting anything from Games Workshop. Every time I sit down to paint a figure I fuck it up royally. Biggest mistakes I've made are buying a Dark Eldar battle force - nothing THAT fiddly should be asked to be painted by mortal people. Stupid bondage obsessed space elves...

This was probably why I moved into Roleplaying. Not as many things to paint, but still just as many arguments about cocked dice.

Anyhow. Yeah- a dungeoneering turned based tile game is doable and has been something I've wanted to do for a long time. Maybe flip it on it's head and make it Dungeon Keeper style - make a dungeon, see if heroes can invade it... that kind of thing. Any takers?

A.I would be hard to do, as with all strat games.

RE: Tile based games
I find them fun to make as it's different from what I'd normally do. I'm making a sequel to Exorbis at the moment, which is going in a fairly tile-based direction :)

It IS still slowly chugging along, Bezman :) I just keep bumping into problems...

That's why hero quest would be easier. I really dont know much about AS but im pretty sure the AI would be a lot easier for something like heroquest where the monsters basically just charge and attacks are based around dice throws.

H'actually:
Pezzo asked me if i'd make him a sig like Lu's old one, I gave him Lu's old one but with his name crossed over, and it all seems to have unfolded from there :/

Castle Crashers

Castle crashers looks beasty. Have a look at the video in the thread Toms posted. The video is about 2 hours long, but fast forward to about 1:14 or 1:40 and you'll find the Behemoths bit. Looks crazy.

And for any of you have a 360 and AH (Jmtb, and Frosty?), go on a challenge(urban, soviet or area 51), pause it, then press start. You now have two hominids :).
And I challenge you to a Soviet Missile mastar contest, add me on XBL and the winner Wins

I love everything about it. Well, not everything, it COULD be a tad smoother but I love it all the same. You inspired me to animate something, but I don't really have time, I just got back to school and need to finish getting settled in and then I have homework to do...

reg meet up

Ok, I gather I've posted saying we're meeting up in Canterbury. But a) I was drunk and b) I was drunk. Granted I'm drunk now but, I'm not THAT drunk. Anyway, who's up for a meet up this autumn/winter and where should we have it?

Kirk, I think I understand this right; but you're telling us you've been drunk right? Like before? And you were posting to clarify that you've been drunk, again?

Because I get drunk at the pub. Then the pub shuts. I come home and see my PC. I go on it. Post on NG. Wake up the next day with lots of regrets.

You can't expect him to stay out until he sobers up. I often will come online when I came back from drinking. It gets a might annoying to read the BBS when drunk though.

If this is in the summer, it is quite possible I'd be able to attend as well. I'm hopefully going to go to a massive dance festival in Amsterdam in July, but I'll be stopping in England for a time I'm sure. If by any chance these times cross, I'll definitely show.

UK MEET
I vote nottingham as it's more central england. Even better would be Birmingham or hmm lets say Wolverhampton :P
If people came to Birmingham or Wolves I could have people sleep on my floor and JPI could too. I can fit like 4-5 people on the floor in my room at a push.
The rest can crash on Luis' hotel room floor.
