Also, theres a virus called "data miner" that tries to steal personal information from your computer. Maybe you just need better virus protection.

Hacking account, Key loggers

I'd like to just touch on this for a second. To the Star Syndicate. I know you're having fun with your keyloggers and phishing for information to fuck people over, but remember this.

It's OFFICIALLY considered Identity theft.

Which can carry a sentance of up to 15 years in prison. I know most of you are minors, but I'm surethe government may at least take away your computer rights for a few years.

Depending on the judge, they may actually give computer fraud and wire fraud to you as well.

Now, not saying this will escalate into something like a federal crime, but it easily could if people wanted to push the subject. Password phishing may seem easy enough to do to not be a serious offense, but in reality, it is.

I'd just be careful. Some people may be laid back about it. Then again, some asshole like me would press charges and persue a case, knowing full well that all of my money for the trial would be compensated by the offenders. It could easily be tens of thousands of dollars. I would take off of work for a few weeks as well, to get my computer up and running and to talk with lawyers. That would have to be compenstated as well. If your minors, your parents would have to pay it.

Password phishing is a crime, even when using keyloggers, even when guessing.

Personally, I'd just give him back his account and leave him alone. You can act all tough until you or your parents start getting phone calls from the authorities.

he settled out of court for 3 and a half grand+lawyer expensis

I just set up a server for BF2 called }~dEAdlocked}~{Ng}, if you have the demo/full version of BF2, please join :). I just thought it would be abit more cheery to blow each other up, rather than keep on talking about Hacking and such :(.

Anyway, join if you can, it'd be nice to have at least a few players :P.

Taking a Break

Aright so I'm taking a break from this thread and account. It really is a distraction and I noticed other mods coming back to life so I feel I can ease up on the controls and do other things with my life.

I'll still run threads im supposed to run like the weeklies but I really want to take a mod break. I'm gonna go back to my Jamrock roots and just be a normal person for awhile.

Im tired of being like this 'nazi' personality.. im an artist first and that kind of suffered a bit due to my duties around here. I want to get back to being in the trenches with my movies and being around other animators. Believe it or not I actually enjoy that more than sitting here locking things and yellin at people..

I feel like I'm losing a little respect of my artistic peers and I want to make up some of that ground back, that kind of matters to me more.
So ya, as jaded as it sounds I'm taking a break too. :P

That's okay, I forgot to check the times of the post and it doesn't appear on the list, though I'll go for one of them High point servers my friend told me about.
Actually, just remembered have you gotten the stunts mod? Because it'd be really cool to try that online next time you start up the server.

I don't think it's a keylogger. I think what they're doing is going into your saved passwords in firefox and fucking you over. Well, I remember that thread about it a while back that some guy from the Kitty Krew posted in, so I pm'ed him and this is the reply I got:

sorry bud, I dont have it. The alleged "Antidote" just does the cookie stealing thing again. All I can say is change all your passwords and dont use firefoxes password thing. all the other stuff can be reversed via control panel I think. The virus was written in VB, so if you still have the file, you could try opening it in notepad and reversing everything. What they are doing is illegal, you should try to contact authorities. As for your site, if you still have ftp access just reupload everything.

SS hacking
So I came across Denvish's thread which also lead me to the SS thread and its making me wonder how the SS hack peoples accounts. Do they just trick people into downloading keloggers or are the some how putting them onto there computers?

The only way you could get that program on your computer is if they send it to you via e-mail, download, or send you to a link that auto-downloads. At least, I'm pretty sure that's it.

So, just play it safe, don't click on any links from people you don't know and/or that look suspicious, and lay low if you really want to avoid the SS and their silly VB code.

I'm sure their virus' are nothing big, and nothing but easily removable baby coding. The SS isn't known for hacking, and if you are good with computers, a small virus like this is easily avoidable if on your computer. They are not a threat to NG at all, and the SS is weak for trying this. They are obviously on NG forums more then their own, which just goes to show.

i have a mac so i usually feel pretty secure but i still have an autoscanner of everything i download.

And there antidote doesn't really fix alot of their problems from what i hear, but TD is right if your good with computers it shoulnd't be taht difficult to take care of

Well, an IT guy I know said that theres only one virus scanner doing anything about it. I think that's kinda sad. I mean, I know that nobody takes the SS seriously, but I ended up having to whipe my harddrive and lost quite a few almost-finished games. Someone should take some legal action, teach the stupid little fuckers a lesson.

Supposedly they took down the real antidotes and replaced them with fake ones and only a few people have the real ones.
Thanks for the answer Trunks, I do download a lot and will probably only download things linked to me by Regs.
However I don't know who they aim for as a target to hack though or what type of artist they go after but I'll just stick your guys advice. However while the SS had hacked Cybex they PMed me once with spam, I wanted to reply to it to see there reaction but I didn't want to get there attention either.

i once got a bit of a virus from Limewire, when I downloaded a zip file rather than my usual mp3, and as soon as it was opened the virus activated then got shut down by my virus protection instantly, and a little gif came up with like a police man smiley or something with a stick. Downside to myy virus scanner is it never shuts up, constant pop-ups from it saying update, ooo look at me, hey forget what your doing come here for a sec... its not automatic like it says so. It won't leave me alone...

Yeah, the demo has a Mutliplayer, and a single player demo in. Its s nice, free bundle, I'd recommended it :). Just google BF2 Demo, you'll get plenty of results :).
