I'm behind, but I disagree. Think about it, which would score higher? An asteroids clone with simple boring graphics, or a sleek asteroids clone with a beautiful star field and background planets, and excellently drawn ships? Which one deserves to score higher?

I don't get your point.

I think the one with better graphics would deserve to and would score higher.

Having said that though (and going off-point), the simpler one may be graphically superior for its purpose. I mean, if the bg planets can be confused with asteroids and distract from the action, they may add complexity but don't exactly improve the presentation.

Form should follow function and rather than spend time adding unnecessary stuff like multiple ships or whatever, I'd rather play a version with time spent honing the numbers (speed, etc.) and mechanics, with the vectors reduced and cleaned up.

Hah, yeah.. all the clock kids will just write a fecking browser extension. Do you forget who these people are? :P

Tom~

All they had to do is set allowScriptAccess to never, that makes flash unable to launch javascript.

Yep, because all the clocks are morons, that's right, none of them can script well... -_-

I'm not updated, but last time I checked from the intel I got they have things far more advanced than a 'fecking browser extension' for mass voting. I know of one working but discontinued project, one working and continued project, and one on the works project that's not working yet... then again I haven't been updated in months.

For the protocol, Tom doesn't mind it either really, he told me that people can do that as long as it doesn't take too much bandwidth , but he'd like people to surf newgrounds as people.

We were talking about voting hysteria, what makes a good game, and Mogly posted a picture of the least awesome Test Card ever.

Heheh, buddy, you implied that virtually all of them could. To quote myself again

I don't doubt there's a few knowledgeable ones in the bunch, but they'd be incapable of it en masse

Why am I taking this up with you both in this thread and msn? Because you did first :P

At 10/4/06 02:13 AM, Toast wrote: Damn right, great example. That is exactly what I was talking about, it's not always rare when people review about that, and it's even A LOT less rare when people vote 0 because of things like that and don't review. What AITD said always helped to prove my point a bit, people here don't have a basis average voting. If you make a WoW game I'm sure a lot of people will 0 because 'they prefer WoW better', while others hate WoW but didn't even play the flash game and decided to vote 0... It could also depend on people's mood, let's say you just got a really terrible punishment, would you feel like voting 5 on everything? On the countary.
Like I said earlier is that people also vote 0 because they don't know how to play the game. The problem isn't with the authour but with the user because they don't bother reading the directions and just complain. The only way to stop this is by making sure that they can't play the game without receiving instructions, a good example is Red which had a tutorial that was mandatory to go through if you wanted to play.

I have recently experienced that flavor of suffering. When I redo the game, I'll make sure there's a nice and painfully long mission structure, like the one in Stickman Sam or something. >:)

The sad thing is that people will probably love it because of that. :(

I believe that games will be as significant a new medium as the printed word ever was, and as powerful a force for change.

I am here to make that happen. Making life more fun

So do you guys think that 3d animation will completely replace good ol' 2d in the coming years/decades? 2d has been almost completely pushed out of video games, and movies. The majority of animated TV shows are still 2d animated, though, along with animation on the net, but those are beginning to step into the next dimension as well.
