2D will always have its place. It's not gonna get any more popular in the coming years, but it'll never get completely squashed out, especially because of the internet.

$800 < $3000...
Anyway, I'm still skeptical this whole thing happened.

The majority of animated TV shows are still 2d animated, though, along with animation on the net, but those are beginning to step into the next dimension as well.
I think 2d will live on, it's an art form, and art forms really cant die, just the methods behind them.

Sculpture, caligraphy, nothing really ever truly dies in the world of art, which is why it's so cool.

I was talking more about industry-wise. Like what was the last 2d animated movie that came out in theaters? 3d is pretty much taking over the cinema animation industry.

Obviously, 50 years later, when we have like super-leet holographic animations at the touch of a button and shit, 2d will be an old, old, art form. It probably won't be used for major profit but it'll still be there.

Actually the provide pretty much the same pleasure to viewers, but they're a hell of a lot faster and cheaper to make, especially with a team of animators.

What left is there to raise the bar in 2d animation? I can't think of anything groundbreaking that someone could make. But I hope so. :)

ok sure gory details.
I downloaded flash 8 and inglor (of armorgames.com) gave me a serial key so I could steal flash to make a game for them. The police found out somehow and arrested me.

I was in a holding cell for a night while they took all my computer harware. I'm back now. They fined me $3000 for piracy which inglors is paying. Any other questions ask him

i'm not sure but it's bugging me too.

ice age, finding nemo and the like kinda started it. then madagascar, shark tale, over the hedge, open season, hoodwinked, flushed away (the rat movie), penguin movies... it's a fad but i'm surprised at how aggressive the media is about popping these out

I imagine its because realism in human characters, both in look and movement, is harder than animal realism.

Well, that isnt exactly true, its just that we're hard-wired to regocnise a human form and how it moves, whereas we're not hardwired for penguins. Its easier to maintain the illusion of realism with CG animals than it is with CG humans, even if you are using a cartoony style
