HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

Modern "digital media" companies either go with something corporate and esoteric, or jam two random syllables together. Maybe go for something based on what you're producing - maybe name it after a character or a setting that's prominent in your work...

Haha, that's brilliant! Xeptic is the name I chose when I was an angry 13-year old gamenerd, I'm slowly phasing out that name now though :)

Hm, that's sort of what I'm doing right now, I'm just combining names of things I like. I'll brainstorm for a bit longer.

Best user icon yet, *claps*
Finished pathfinding for my game today, works pretty smoothly. I used A* with some modifications and am quite happy with the result. Just thought I'd share.

I was thinking more along the lines of 'Luis the Cock' atm. It could have a rooster with a sombrero as a logo.

Thought I'd let you know.
Spotify
I'm pretty sure we're all well aware of the new changes to Spotify, where you only get 10 hours of music a month. Which is so shit, when you realise most people work 8 hours a day. But it turns out those 10 hours are per machine (and/or IP address). I've used my 10 hours on my work machine, but I've just launched Spotify at home and I've got 3 hours left on the same account.
Oh hell yes!

spotify
That's what the adverts after every 3 songs, the banner ads at the side, bottom and the ones that cover the entire spotify window are for.
and artists gotta pay the bills

"Artists" are never gonna pay the bills with spotify.
This thing is incredibly brilliant. I just saw the kickstarter page yesterday, and it was only funded at $17k out of the $35k they wanted. I assumed it's been open for a while, and was afraid it wasn't going to reach the goal.
Apparently, they reach that $17k within 12 hours of making the kickstarter page and have now gone over $37k...on the second day!
This is really a must watch, it's simply incredible. Has anyone else heard about this or have I been living under a rock?

I haven't heard of it until now...

Looks like it *has* started a long while ago, similarly with a kickstarter page. I'm glad I only heard about it now though, the wait would have been unbearable.
Yeah I have had that pre-ordered for about a year now.
Remote desktop IOS development on Mac
So my boss borrowed me a Mac mini so that I can get into IOS development. Problem is I don't want to make another full computer setup with monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. at home so I've tried remote desktop (with the Mac on my local network) instead. The performance is really underwhelming though and I definitely wont be able to develop with this lag. Does anyone here have any experience with this stuff and know how to optimize it, or if it's even possible to get it working more or less as good as when working "locally"?

My boss has got a mac mini and a PC but only has one one mouse & keyboard and uses one of these to switch between the PC and Mac. Might be worth looking into.

Was going to suggest same thing, it's what they use where I work (currently) except for they have 2/4 USB inputs (used for keyboard and mouse) and 2 ports for USB A-B cables connecting to each computer (in this case laptop and UNIX box) and then the monitors connected separately.
Those switches looks very practical! I'll ask my boss to get one of those for me, thanks guys :)
This has probably been asked before but do any of you have twitter? I wanna stalk you.
I programmed a new twitchy cuboy game which should be out soon. Our Sponsor, SPIL Games are very friendly people, but because of their translation stuff, the process of releasing a game through them has been very long (6+ weeks) :[
Yes twitter accounts, always interesting. Mine is XepticDesigns, although I hardly use it at the moment, plan to use it more when I start picking up development again.

I am more or less inactive though (don't want to spam with a lot of random stuff *cough* glaiel *cough* ;).

Haha, twitter does seem to breed stalkers. I've got a Twitter account that I set up a few months back when I was messing around with the Twitter API for Flash. I made like 5 tweets ("test1", "test2", etc), apart from my boss at work no one knew about this account, yet I've still had people I know find that account and try to friend me. It's bizarre!

Dying. Soon to be dead. The glory days of flash games are behind us. Its all about iPhone and porting to console these days/

I'm sure that was a joke, but I wanted to point out that the flash market is still growing as strong as ever. There's at least a couple of games that get sold for $50k every month on FGL, that's of the ones that *do* actually get put on FGL.
You will find a lot of developers saying that the market is dying, and that it's getting over saturated and all that whining, but in reality, all the ones that are making the money are just quietly working and enjoying their success. As long as you don't make crap games and are willing to spend some time with promotion and negotiating, then you will find a good paying sponsor for your game.
At 6/25/11 11:26 PM, Musician wrote: 50k for a flash game? What games have been made that pulled 50k?
Well seeing as the most generic, unoriginal games generally make the most money, I'd have to say that most of the time it's probably yet another launch game, a pong clone, or a tower defense game.
Okay enough about money. Who has played a game that they thought was really great recently?
For me the new Ulimate Assasin 3 is pretty good. Also Battle stance and army of ages. But most of all Hazmat. Wow what a fantastic game. :]

$#%! That.
Now that Androids can run flash you can use the ease of the flash environment (plus handy tools like FlashBuilder) to create Apps/games that are in high demand.
