He and Garry Newman (of Garry's Mod fame) have been having a little battle over the current Humble Bundle. Notch donates $2k, Newman tops with $2,000.01, Notch comes back with $2000.02, and so on. He's donated over $6k now, just for a bit of fun vs. Garry.

Also, been on holiday for the past week. No Time To Explain was the first bit of money I spent (pledged) when I returned home. Encouraging my friends to do the same. Don't go and waste my money now!

Congrats on reaching your target.

Was the post by Bryce serious, or are you like trying to break new ground in idiotic threads by making posts that contain completely no reference to what it turned you wanted?

I asked a question and someone answered it. Why do you care so much?

Fancy Pants comes out today on PSN, I wonder how that's gonna do.

I was thinkin today I've barely heard anything about the game, but hey they did have a trailer on Gametrailers, and I saw em on Inside Xbox last night, so maybe it's all just in places I don't check very often.

I'll probably pick it up on xbox 360. I didn't know he had shifted to console development until FGS this year... so yeah, they didn't get the word out too well around these parts until just recently.

Been playing the Fancy Pants demo on PS3, and it's actually pretty fun, especially the water bits. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is because the art's just bad. I mean I love the characters themselves and the super smooth animations, just not the backgrounds or the ground.

When I'm running fast and jumping on the PS3, I'd like to be looking at awesome art, as in, not crudely drawn. If you remember in Fancy Pants 2 when he had a few levels drawn by multiple different artists, now those were extremely awesome, especially the Adam Philips level. If that caliber of art was added in the console version it would have been ways better in my opinion, and I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

In other news, I just found this:

Super Meat Boy Postmortem

It's as inspiring as it is depressing. Making games is definitely not easy. Edmund even says he had a nervous breakdown where he actually thought he was stuck in some nightmare where he was repeating the same day over and over.

They also got screwed by Microsoft.

also anyone play portal 2 yet?

After beating single player I rank the game among my top 3 of all time next to ocarina of time and metroid prime. It's that good, I might write up my full opinions of it sometime after I get a chance to play co-op.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2011-04-21 18:19:23

Just finished it!
Without spoiling anything; This is among my top 3 WIERDEST games I've ever played, next to Majora's Mask and Bioshock.

I felt like the plot was just a string of weird bits n pieces, the dialogue was sometimes slow and too obvious and really kinda spoon-fed you what was going on all the time, but I DID like the puzzles, the scope of the game was great, Aperture Science was awesome, and that was maybe my favourite ending I've ever played.

There were some REAL high points. I won't complain too much about the bits I didn't like cos I really appreciate that they had the balls to make a big giant full-ass COMEDY GAME.

Yeah, Portal 2 is absolutely awesome. And there are so many little things they showed off that other game developers can pick up on, like the way the background music changed slightly depending on what you were doing (eg. flying through the air or firing a laser at a detector). I won't whittle off a list for fears of spoiling people's first impressions (which is why I won't talk about co-op either), but I agree with placing it as one of the best games of all time.

Though, a small part of me is expecting the next few years of Flash games to compose of a bunch of pseudo-organic puzzles in an attempt to replicate the core gameplay of Portal 2 (like the past few years of mechanical Portal-like games (and that's right, I just used terms Glaiel had used several moons ago)). Only time will tell.

Noticed something odd when testing my game--Using mrdoob's Stats class I noticed that Flash's memory usage slowly increases as time goes on, even in an empty file.

Problem with Flash or problem with the Stats class?

So I was thinking about how awesome AS:Main was when I was learning to code. It was really good to have tutorials written by people in the same boat as you with learning to code and all, and have them discussed by the community. Maybe it's an outdated idea, but I think it'd be cool to try again with AS3:Main, or at least to arrange all of the existing tutorials into one nice clean page.

Discuss.

I think it's probably one of the better resources for AS2, definitely helped me (and look where I am now...). AS3:Main just flopped when it could have been as big as AS:Main. It's a shame really. I can't program very well with AS3, but I could help a little bit with some really basic tutorials.

I'll leave the hard stuff to the big boys.

My current game will be done in the next month or two. My sound person is working at RIM at the moment and suggested that we port it all over to the playbook. Whether the playbook is going to die soon or not is not my concern, but it runs flash and I would love to have a tablet game on my resume. : )

No reason not to do it. Simple as that.
