I've got bootcamp, it's pretty good as I've got a PC and a Mac one device. The only downside is that if I want to switch OS I need to restart my laptop. I'm not too familiar with parallels so I don't know what the draw backs with it are.

Parallels is cool. The downside is that it is a little clunky and slow. It runs within an application in osx. It can't run games very well and a lot games won't even run. It would be nice I guess if you have some kind of application that you need and use often that doesn't have an osx equivalent.

There are also some other emulators out there. Wine and some others too I think.

Do you have a high end iMac? You shouldn't really have to much trouble running programs in parallels considering I managed to run it on my Macbook - 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667MHz and install LoL (not that it actually ran, but the installation was fine).

it's the 27", quad core, 1gb gpu, 4gb ram. The memory might be the only thing to let it down, i just didnt want to spend 200quid more for 8gb. seeing this is for complex 3d rendering, i need the best set up, sounds like bootcamp might be better, but sucks i have make all the graphics on osx then reboot to win7. would windows xp be better, what were you running?

I ran Windows XP in parallels and as a secondary boot, but I didn't need 7.

AIR

isn't it basically flash applications? I've never used it before.

AIR

A lot of people it's 100% oxygen, but actually only 20% of its composition is oxygen. Go figure.

And then under high energy the nitrogen reacts with the oxygen to form nitrous oxide which then reacts again with the oxygen and forms nitrous dioxide and then some other shit happens that I forget, free radical something, then Ozone is formed which destroys our respiratory system.

Hey guys, I dont mean to be switching topics like this, but i was just wondering if anyone could help me with this problem Ive been having with bitmapData for the past couple of days.

Ok so any time i run ANY flash using bitmapData for some reason it lags at least 15 - 30 fps. For example:
Here is a fountain created by HDXmike:

http://innermike.com/site/Fireworks.html

it runs at 27 - 42 fps for me, and 60 for archawn and mike! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS

Ive tried reinstalling both the debug player and the browser player

My computer can definitely handle it, I have 4 gigs of ram, and a decent AMD processor.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm pretty sure it relies on your GPU aswell. 4gb of ram is nothing if the speed is slow. Give us some full specs and you'll probably find your rig isn't as good as Mikes or Bens.

You're right, if you exported using flash player 10, this can take advantage of your computers GPU capabilities, runs at 60 FPS for me.

You say you tried in a browser, try a different browser if you have one. Also close any other programs you have running, including Flash, if you are testing inside a browser. Check your CPU usage in the task manager. Also try changing the quality of the flash, see if it makes a difference.

Thank you for the response,
I think u put me on the right track with exporting in flash 10... I have flash CS3, and when I look in my publish settings I can only export up to 9. Do you guys know how i could export for 10?

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2010-11-28 13:22:44

*face palm* sorry, when you said flash 9 i thought you where talking about what im exporting to, not literally exporting from flash 9 which is CS3.

AIR

I hope you're happy, sam

I like it, it's basically just a supercharged version of flash. You can do nice things like make transparent windows or mess with file systems and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Old abandoned (awesome) Game

Insignia and I started working on this RPG a couple of years ago but unfortunately it never went anywhere. This is as far as it went. Artwork and ideas from Insignia, and my programming.

You can't really do much outside of leaving the hut and casting a couple of spells using the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and Q keys. Performance is a lot better in desktop than browser.

That is really something. I loved the art, and the way you programmed the character movement...was just... beautiful B]. I think you guys should continue it. It has great potential!

The control system is pretty good. I found the animations to be a bit slow. it doesnt appear to be the framerate. I think it just has too many frames perhaps. Cool shiet anyway

also. I've started taking heroin today.

True story: when I was in san francisco this august my cousin and brother and I helped some heroin addicts find their lost brother named "midnight" or "casey" depending on who you asked. He was from spain, and when they realized their brother was from spain, they realized that, woah, they were from spain too.

Making .pngs and stuff like that. More vector based than photoshop.
I find it completely useless.

Nicer than photoshop when you need something done quickly.

When I had it I used it for compressing PNGs made in another program

yea thats mainly what its used for. I think the only real usefulness for it if you own that and Photoshop is for some reason IE recognizes Fireworks' transparency in PNG-8, yet adobe's PNG-8's wont show transparent in a browser.

Also im no longer doing drugs. Out of rehab.

Ya, photoshop's PNG support is pretty shitty (when transparency is involved). Since new closure runs on PNGs and starogre works primarily in photoshop for it, we had a weird issue where photoshop would incorrectly store 100% transparent sections as "White with 0% alpha" which sticks ugly halo artifacts around the edges of objects when they're resized in-game. The only solution is using a plugin that smears the edges of a graphic outward, then saves as a tga, THEN you have to open the tga in gimp and resave as a PNG.

Really adobe should just merge fireworks into photoshop. They're too similar to justify them being different programs
