It's exactly like sand but colder, wetter, softer and with a different taste, texture and colour.

You're only an adult once you buy a carpet. As soon as that happens, BAM no more childhood.

You become an adult as soon as you do all those things you wanted to do as a kid, and realize they aren't that great.
As it turns out having candy and ice cream for dinner isn't all it turns out to be. In fact it just ends up giving you heartburn and indigestion and makes it tough to fall asleep.
Also being able to "buy whatever you want" makes you realize that money can run out really fast, and then you're stuck with a bunch of useless crap you never really needed. Though I have no regrets over the Sumo Gigantor I bought a couple months ago.
also going drinking and waking up the next morning with a hangover to find out you spent ALL YOUR CASH the previous night, and worse yet you have to give a presentation in a masonic temple which was rented out for indiecade, to then find out the stupid masons won't let you bring in coffee into the presentation room which really really sucks, does not make for a fun time.

You spend 400$ on a bag ...?

I never said anything about being an adult, I said I was old.

I thought that the picture in that link said "Bitch Black" for a second. Very disappointed to see it was actually called "Pitch Black".
Also, just downloaded Super Meat Boy. Hurrah!

You and me both then. My hometown, despite being located in the southern half of Sweden, has the record for most snow this winter (1 meter, ~3 feet(?)). There's a lot here as well, as it's only 30 minutes away.
It's also freezing, -15 C atm :(
In happier news: Dreamhack was awsum :) Went there Saturday mainly for the Starcraft final which was great! I also bumped into Day9 who is well-known among SC players and who commentated many of the matches, including the final.

Toast showed me who Day9 was.

Really adobe should just merge fireworks into photoshop. They're too similar to justify them being different programs
yeah they need to adapt to the market in more ways than ADDING new features and instead change current ones
It's funny how much changing the contrast and lightness of a background image changes the whole "feel" of a monochrome game. Random musings of an exhausted programmer.

I've discussed this with people before but I'd be SUPER HAPPY (adobe: read this as "pulling out my credit card" level happiness) if flash CS6 / flash player 11 added NO new features, and instead were a snow-leopard style stability update where they trash a huge portion of legacy code and rewrite it from the ground up for modern systems (i.e. EVERYONE has a GPU now, no reason to keep most of the vectorizer on the cpu is there?).
I somehow doubt adobe will do that now, but flash is getting a bit bloaty lately and this could really benefit them in the long run if they took the plunge.
What's the best way to scroll large 800x600 (or bigger) blocks stitched together without lag? What image format should I use? jpg, bmp, png?
I just bought a ps3, what games should I get? (i already have an xbox and a wii so I'd prefer suggestions which are exclusive)

Gran Turismo 5
Little Big Planet
God of War 3
Uncharted: 1 and/or 2
add me: funkycaveman if you want a game of something.
Quick programming question. I use the "is" and "as" keywords in AS3 once in a while. Are there equivalents in other programming languages, specifically C++ and Java?

GT5 is actually really good. Not much has changed but there's something really nice about what they've done with it.
I would add flOw to that list, its a great game. I never owned any of the PS3 ones but Ratchet & Clank was an epic game on PS2, might want to check that out I dunno.
New Ratchet and Clanks are still good but not as good as the old ones. Feels like they're losing something.

I don't think I've ever had to use "is" but I assume that's for class datatyping? Like "var truth:Boolean = myArray is Array;" ? Other languages might have equivalents to getDefinitionByName and getQualifiedClassName which you can use to check for class datatyping.

RTTI for similar functionality to "is" (though I HIGHLY recommend you instead have some sort of flag you store yourself in the base class to indicate what it is instead)
http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/ty pecasting/
casting for similar function to the "as" keyword

Thanks, that's pretty much what I was looking for. It looks like it would be a good idea to minimize the amount of "is" I use, if only for future coding endeavors. I also realized shortly after posting that I pretty much use the "as" keyword for the sake of auto-complete in FlashDevelop. lul
$44 for ad revenue from a game I made a year ago. Just in time for Christmas.
Also the super meat boy cut scenes are shit.

yea i sorta agree. Dunno if they transfered better on the pc version but on the xbox version you can see alot of hairline seams in the graphics and it makes it look amateur.

Working from Home
I've been working from home today because of the snow and I've actually been ridiculously productive considering I'm still in bed. I've made a crossword game that uses json to manage all the different puzzles, so any one can add/remove more crosswords just by using a text editor.
Anyone else find that being snowed in is actually pretty good for your work ethic?
