Hello Wurmy.
I've just realised my post quality has got down...
yeyness :)
First game in a long time that I actually feel satisfied with. Biggest flaw is probably the graphics, and for that I blame Luis! :D

Flash + FD = epic

I like the graphics, I think they suit the game perfectly :(
Also, I've never seen the "User Generated Files" thing before. Is that new, or am I just late to the party? It looks like an amazing way to share levels among other things.

That's actually what I do. I code entirely in FD, and use Flash for graphics, however I am in the bad habit of still using frames when I use Flash which is probably what is throwing me off and creating odd bugs..
Even so, I still love Flixel and have learned so much from it. A wonderful library it is.

If you ever feel bad about the quality of your posts, just look at my first posts. If anything it may make you laugh :(

They are not the worst I suppose, but after looking at them for months I've grown tired of them xP

It's a part of the API (save data). They used it in Time Fcuk, but that's the only submission I've seen making use of it before.

I use frames for some stuff still, but I try to stay clear of multiple frames if I need to reference something that's not in them all.

Spritesheets and copyPixels is one way.

I boobed
I made a game that took way to long and was way too big and now no sponsors will touch it. Am also most of the way into my overdraft. I suck :(

If it makes you feel any better. I'm in the exact same situation.

(
Too big as in over 10MB, and my best offer at the moment is $1000 which is about a third of what I really need in order to justify the time and effort I put into it.
not to mention to pay my rent

Would it be possible to cut it down significantly and save some features/levels/whatever for a sequel?
Also, how do you mean? I'm not well versed in sponsorships, so I don't know how big "too big" is.
i guess there is a maximum amount a flash game can be sponsored for to make it worth while for the sponsor. Although you should be able to get a bit more the game looks pretty epic.
Get on facebook chat brah

pretty shit so i came back :)

Yeah, nice idea but doubtful it would happen.
At 8/3/10 11:23 AM, citricsquid wrote: oh file size :( do most sponsors have an issue with filesize then? I know Newgrounds don't mind upping the allowance (and I'm sure they'd do it for you) so I guess the problem is sponsors being anal about bandwidth, sponsors suck! :(
It's not bandwidth that's the problem so much as mobility - a big game won't spread to other sites nearly as easily as a small one. Of course, this issue could be resolved with some sort of performanced based sponsorship but I can't even get negotiations open with anone :/

i'm pretty sure it's worth 10000000
How much money through sponsorship and ads did the SHIFT series make?

generally a sponsor won't make back the money they pay for an expensive game, they usually make their money off of a cheap game that randomly becomes a hit, and sponsor bigger ones as part of an overall strategy, not because they individually make their money back more often. That's why it's usually more worth it to get a sponsor rather than try to monetize it yourself with ads and such. Quantity matters a lot more than quality for flash games.

It's rather unfortunate that the whole Flash Gaming market functions that way. I suppose it is a smart business move for sponsors, but it might discourage some authors from making larger games. I'm a fan of big games when I have the time to enjoy them, which I guess is the problem--not many people play a Flash game for a complex storyline or in-depth character development, so those games are more of a gamble when it comes to sponsors earning back their payment on larger games.
Oh well, it is how it is.
