Still, I hope Adobe do smarten up with the new threat and start lowering the price of Flash and adding some of those features that programmers have been begging for for years now!
I totally disagree, I think flash got way too bloated and that's what's killing it. I think they need to tone flash down. Make it sleeker and fun like it used to be... I mean hardware accel? that's great, AS3? that's fun, but you need to KISS...
Apologies; I meant AS3 should get more features, the ones you see some of the regs complaining about every time Adobe do a presentation about CS5's new additions. I agree that the IDE has become bloated and breaky. However, one or two of the tools are much appreciated (I presume, I've never used CS3/4), and AS3 is a fantastic addition to the program.
I think it would be great if flash would detect wether or not your browser is starting to lag and if it does deprive itself from resources...
Well, frame rate is, for the most part, an accurate indication of such things. For memory usage, AS3 already has a property which shows that. It is up to the programmer to set methods in order to rectify overuse of memory/processing power if needs be (after all, it would be hell to debug if Flash started messing with things it shouldn't be).
