HDXmike, I'm curious... Why did you choose that picture for your signature?

Does this function which creates a loop which adds velocity to the player smell like chloroform?

I think I'll make a sig like Mike's but with that type of Grass in it. =p
But... I have to get my CDL (Commercial Driver's Licence) to take a promotion I was just given at work, so no more of that for me.

Wow, I was actually just going to send you a PM telling you that it'd be a good idea to change your username.
Farza is much better than "windowskiller".
This took way too long to make.
It had to be done, though. I hate how ignorant some people are of code tags.
Way. Too. Long...

At least it was short.
I'm getting tired of going by bus 30km several times a week in order to get to uni, so today I checked out an apartment right next to it :) It seems great, just a wee bit expensive (2x my current rent, for pretty much an equivalent apartment to what I have now, just not in a shithole town). It's actually supposed to be a few m2 bigger, but the construction plan made it seem smaller, so I decided to dust off my old CAD skills just to get a feeling about how much junk I can fit. [OMG VIDEO]
I've got until tomorrow to decide whether or not I want it, and after making this model I think it's going to be good enough. If so I'm moving June 1st :D

Go for it. It might be more expensive, but it's all about location, location, location. Plus you'll get at least an hour extra in bed in the mornings if you don't have to travel 30km every day.

2 weeks - tom capitalized my HDX thing , wade gets more requests than tom so he over looks some
Yeah, I had the same issue a few years back when i returned to NG and wanted my name changed from "Aro" to "Duchednier" tom fixed it in like 3 days.
Shutter Island
HOLY SHIT! No movie before has needed so much discussion post-viewing! It was INCREDIBLE! And i think you all need to go see it like now!
...that is all :P
Generally Wade is and has been less responsive to requests... He gets spammed with requests every day. Not that I think we deserve better treatment than most newgrounders but I think people who create flash contribute more to the site than people who do not (in general).
Flash Vs. HTML5
Do you think that one day HTML5 will make flash extinct? I mean Canvas seems pretty basic but with the given tools and a software similar to Flash itself it might be up to it. I mean these seem a little far from flash (different links, you need an HTML5 - able browser). They do however look impressive in their own way...
Steve Jobs seems to think that but isn't he just hallucinating?. Do you agree?

Wait there, Luis is an admin now. I think that would be a perfect job for him to do!
At 2/19/10 05:18 AM, Inglor wrote: Do you think that one day HTML5 will make flash extinct?
As far as I'm aware, there isn't a single HTML5 'compiler' with an IDE which allows for creating game objects in the same manner that Flash's movie clips do. Hence I figure it would be a bit of a chore for new game developers to make fun little programs using the new language.
Also, you can make a full-blown animation in Flash. Even if more people start publishing the animation in a HTML5-friendly format, they'll still be using Flash to create the animation.
Still, I hope Adobe do smarten up with the new threat and start lowering the price of Flash and adding some of those features that programmers have been begging for for years now!
I know relatively little about HTML5 though, so I may be talking out of my ass

You're right but only at the moment... It's a matter of time before an HTML5 developing environment is created, or is it? look at mozilla thunderhead
I think a big problem for HTML5 Canvas is that flash is still considerably faster in more intensive calculations because it runs in a machine-code like form unlike Canvas... The problem with flash is that in recent versions it has become cloggy which is what killed Director imho...
Also, look at all these nifty examples, especially mario kart

I totally disagree, I think flash got way too bloated and that's what's killing it. I think they need to tone flash down. Make it sleeker and fun like it used to be... I mean hardware accel? that's great, AS3? that's fun, but you need to KISS...
I think it would be great if flash would detect wether or not your browser is starting to lag and if it does deprive itself from resources...

The majority of people who argue that Flash will be killed by HTMl5 are those who think Flash is limited to being a video player. Seriously, go and check out some of the blog posts by people who want Flash to die, they totally disregard the versatility of Flash outside of video players and it's very annoying.
I do agree with Inglor that they really need to slice the fat out of the current Flash builds. The program is so bloated nowadays, and i dont know if Adobe assumes flash developers are just mindlessly going to accept it like Photoshop users have for years but it really does drive me nuts.
As for the html5 thing, i dont think it'll necessarily kill flash, but it should clean things up. I've always hated that the only way to have an efficient video player was through flash. I dreamed of the day there would be a html native video solution that is easily seo crawlable, streamable and flexible. Html 5 will take awhile before its comfortably accepted in so my patience wil have to remain strong but the things ive heard about html 5 do seem promising.
Flash haters will always be around, i think to some degree i can sympathize with their frusteration, while flash is very versatile it is better suited for somethings mor ethan others... in the early 2000-ish there was a similar outcry during that golden age of Flash websites if anyone was born and alive to remember that :P
None

Yeah, I bet Steve Jobs has no idea what he's talking about, the guy doesn't know computers...
Will it kill Flash games and movies? Hell no. Canvas is cool and stuff, but it's no way a replacement for Flash.
That's just the thing, if you look at some of the examples I posted they're pretty advanced... the problem is that flash is getting bloated and if that doesn't stop it'll end up just like java applets and director games...

I had a feeling this would happen ever since Adobe bought Macromedia...

Just wondering why NG doesn't allow the uploading of silverlight projects to be uploaded to the portal?

Yeah, I'm definitely going to move, there are a bit cheaper apartments though which is why I'm hesitating. But I've pretty much decided to take it, I'm probably going to make the call within the hour :)
I'm wearing a legit mind-reading hat on my head atm. It looks like one of those things from science fiction movies that the evil dudes wear to control armies of thousands of man-killing machines. Pretty awesome.
And the one I'm wearing could do just that ... well, provided you have an army of thousands of man-killing machines, of course.
At 2/19/10 09:37 AM, citricsquid wrote: Steve Jobs doesn't give a shit about Flash gaming and movies, why would he? The majority of his target market don't care,
That's where I think you're wrong. The target market of cell phones isn't limited to your dad... most kids nowadays have cell phones, and most kids like to play games and watch animations with their phones. Kids are not as small of a market share as you think. If you take a look at the 20 most popular flash game websites and apps they make up more than 5% of all internet reach, that's a big number... take a look at FarmVille, it has more than 56 million (!!!!) players...
The only other reason Apple wouldn't support flash (other than not having faith in it) is business...
I've played a bit with canvas, if you're telling me that canvas is a suitable alternative to Flash for creating animations or games like Brackenwood and NG Rumble,
Not today, but perhaps in time... compare making canvas drawings today to making flash movies using only coding and api... that's far from where canvas is today, but who knows?
can you link any good examples of it being used to create anything worthwhile?
