Anyway one bad thing about modding is it changes your role on the site, you sort have to control yourself and be diplomatic and not immature about things.. actually never mind being a mod is good. i lied.

I just banned all of you guys so theres no more replies tonite.

RE: Modding

I could see how moderating could have its ups and downs. But affilates can post news, so i'll focus on both. By the way, to become an affilate, do you just need to be a popular artist with a good website?

I might be missing something, but since Tom took off the affiliate links from the NG index I don't see much of an advantage to being an affiliate. I mean posting news is cool, but I'm not really sure how many people take notice because the comments on affiliate posts are significantly lower from NG news posts.

Re: What you be workin' on, yo?

I'm currently working on a winter themed game called Sledder! I don't have a lot left to do and I hope I will be able to finish it by Monday.

Re: High School dances, OMG!

I was recently at a school dance, not my school's dance, but my girlfriend's. She has all the pictures that we got and I wont get to see all of them until I see her again, which will hopefully be in a couple days (darn distance), but she sent me a scanned picture and I had to laugh at it. She looks fine, but I look like a doofus XD

I rate myself a nice round 0 for drawing and animating...and a 8-9/10 for actionscript. There's nothing with AS I haven't figured out how to do yet, but I don't know fancy 3D things like Tom or someone...lol.

Re: What are your flash-dreams?

Amen. I kinda feel like i'm in kindergarten again with all the little rules.

It can be a little anoying, but big bold text is a lot easier to skim read through than little gray italics. You'll get used to it :P

Sleepwalking

Apparently I sleepwalk now.

I was gonna post something about this yesterday, but forgot due to minor sleep deprivation and being an idiot.

On Thursday our form was doing some charity thing to raise money for the homeless. It was a sort of school wide effort to raise money for various causes - in another form's thing I won a big jar of jelly beans (which I then later used to bribe people for sponsorships for our charity thing) for coming second in guessing the number for two jars. Incidentially, both the winners of the bean counting thingy were friends with the organisers.

Anyway, this charity thingy involved spending a night as a homeless person, i.e. we all got to sleep in cardboard boxes in our tutor's back yard for a night. It was quite easilly the most unpleasant night's sleep ever had by anyone anywhere ever.

The night started fairly well. Lots of highly amusing jokes to do with boxes, wetness; that sort of thing, and we got hot soup! Things took a turn for the worst about two hours in when it started raining, and about an hour and a half later my box totally collapsed on itself. This did man that we got to sleep in the garage; on the plus side it wasn't rainign in there; on the minus side it meant lying on a cold concrete floor. And another member of my formb who shall remain nameless has extrememly bad snoring. And by bad, I mean hillarious.

I don't know how long we were in that garage. Three or four hours, we were told. It seemed like days. At some point I must have caught a little sleep, because as our form tutor proceeded to tell everyone in all of her lessons the next day, I apparently stood up in my sleeping bag, looked around for a few seconds, and the sort of hula-ed out of it in some weird erotic dance.

Having escaped the nice, warm clutches of my sleeping bag, I then went on to attempt to exit the garage, at which point our tutor put a hand out to stop me. I gave he a hi-five, before returning to my space on the floor and waking up.

The weird thing is that I can remember a lot of it. It's like remembering a dream. I have this recollection of standing up, and seeing this shadowy figure walking out of the garage. I felt compelled to follow it, and stood up to do so. As I was walking out, I heard a voice saying "It's not time to go for a walk", and felt equally compelled to return to my bag. I was more awaky for the return journey, and being too embarrased to get back inside my sleeping bag I spent a good half hour lying freezing on the floor clutching it untill I was fairly confident that most people were asleep.

Anyway, the next morning we all got up, feeling exactly like it was te end of a long plane journey and we'd been stranded at an airport for six hours untill like seven in the morning. I got home and spent untill about ten lying in, using the logic that anyone who complained about me being late the next day clearly hates homeless people and has no place in a state school.

I got myself up at ten, still fairly tired, had a long shower, did my English Lit homwork and got a lift to school.

At lunch I went to the shop and had a Pot Noodle.

So, how were all of your weeks?

and does anyone have any suggestions for a "Winter Wonderland" themed costume I can have together by Tuesday?

But we expect better over here. We all know how we feel about that part of the forum - most of us wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Whilst General can be a lively, amusing read and a good place to post very off topic conversations for a huge pallete of intellects, the last thing any of us really want is to have the same kind of chaos that makes General so lively and energetic interfere with our own kind of Flash related conversations over here. And we shouldn't really be spamming up our own reg lounge, even if it's on it's death bed.

By forcing ourselves to title these paragraphs, we're commiting ourselves to fairly sane responses. No one spams with a bold tag.

Go as Jack Frost.
Find some talc powder, rub your face and hair in it, wear white / light blue clothing and find some white tinsel to decorate about your person

Simple, but messy. But at least that way you can then annoy people by leaving big white handprints on thier clothing in the name of charity / holiday spirit.

My week's been pretty boring. Still at the filing mines, and no real progress on the game engine. Oh, and I've had throat problems so I'm on antibiotics. Nothing major.

Wow. That's seriously an awesome idea. The only problem is that I'll have to avoid getting talc on more people than is amusing.

I was thinking of doing something comicly crap, like getting a white t-shirt, sellotaping a twig to it and writing "Christmas tree" in it in a black marker pen.

Flash Dreams

To fully learn Flash 5, then upgrade to Flash MX. Maybe even MX 2004, depending on how crazy I feel.

To make 100 games/prototypes/demos differing in play mechanics.

To then finish Skears 2. Have it be excellent.

And I think most who haven't already gotten them aspire for the various awards/high scores.

Yeah. I'm fairly creative when it comes to being given strict guidelines. Paradoxically, the more specific the situation, the more I think outside the box. Which is why the game I'm making with Blaze will be featuring Santa the Barbarian. Must just be my spiteful creativity.

RE: GG's search for a Wii
Launch day was yesterday over here in the Eurosphere.

Don't tell my brother, but my parents and I strategically obtained one of those things from our local Toys R Us behind his back. It's sitting wherever my parents hide the Christmas Presents every year. It's a shared present between me and him, but I had to actually make sure we got one this year by ensuring preorders went through, and selecting appropriate games for entertainment (naturally, Twilight Princess).

When we arrived at the store, we got our package from the exceptionally nice supervisor who, like everyone who's ever talked to my mother, knew better than to get on the wrong side of the exceptionally friendly woman. He told us that every one of the extra consoles they got in had already been sold, and that everyone on duty at the store had been offered fortunes to sell the ones they put aside for preorders.

It occured to me and my mother on the drive home that we should have done the sane thing and taken out a loan, preordered one from every store in the area and sell them on Ebay. Or set up a stall outside Toys R Us.

Oh, and I found out today (because I'm so fucking slow at hearing things on the grapevine) that the Wii supports backwards compatability with Cube games. I'll finally be able to play F-ZeroGX and Eternal Darkness properly.

Best of luck finding one of the buggers GG. Maybe you could get a hold of a digital camcorder, and turn your quest into a documentary.

Flash Dreams
Well, my Batting Average is (and has been for the past few months) high enough to get me on the Top Rated artists table if I actually submit something, so I'm hoping to carve a slot there for myself in the near future. I'd love to have affiliate status with this place as well, although my site's a wreck at the moment and I really don't have anything to show off yet - so that's my long term goals laid out already. Release those games, work out Convoy, redo my site again and earn myself some rep here.

I'm not sure where I want to take Flash if I choose to persue it seriously. If there's a serious market for it, I'd like to set up a company that exclusively makes games, animations and apps using Flash technology - rather than use Flash as part of a web design experience. Not sure if that's plausible or not, although with Flash popping up *everywhere* nowadays (Edutainment software, PDA's, Cartoon Network, on the Wii when they finally finish debugging that Wii Browser) I'm sure there's something out there.

Besides. Lots of Flash familiarity could get me a place as a UI designer in the CompGamesIndy if I keep my Max skills up as well.

Animation: 6/10
Actionscript: 5/10
Programming any other crap: 7/10

Agreed, for the most part. I can't tell you how annoying it was to be a regular user and see spam threads just sitting there sometimes, when I could easily just hit the ban button. Being a mod changes a lot though. It goes from willy-nilly BBS style to "now I have authority and I'm probably going to use it... yeah I am". Of course, that authority is awesome, but it's sometimes hard for me because I'm usually a pretty nice guy, and the ban stick flies out and makes me look like a powertripping asshole.

And its great being the only mod with a number in his name. A real number, I know Neg has a "spelled out" number. That doesn't count :). It makes me look more like a noob mod than Luis.
