I just came back from watching Zombieland with a friend who asked me to go with her and a bud of mine that I invited; totally funny movie, had me jumping from my seat every once in a while. Don't go if you expect a horror, it's actually a comedy/horror, but it's centered around the jokes and everything. Really nice characters and development of them, and the ending scene, with the clown zombie... that was hilarious.

Oh, and the cowboy guy SPOILER SPOILERSPOILERKOASDFNAS, he finally gets a Twinkie.

I really want to try a Twinkie now, they sound tasty, too bad there aren't any here in Argentina...

Is anyone else setting themselves a ridiculous task for the Christmas contest or something unhealthily ambitious that requires one to sleep only a couple of hours before Christmas? I figure if I want to finish my current flash I'll have to animate a couple of minutes of animation in a couple of days. AAaaaah.

Also, with all of this latest-version-of-flash talk... is it a good idea to upgrade? As in, is it worth it in terms of time saved with new features/shiny effects? I'm currently still on MX and feel like a dinosaur. Rawr. I know CS4 has been out for a while but I only started animating again recently.

I'm an animator, a (dodgy back alley) VA and also a writer.

PM me if you want feedback on your writing, music or flash to get review'd by me. I'm pseudo-qualified. Maybe.

Awesome start of the weekend

So the dudes at my school thought it would be sweet to schedule the exam in a discrete math course at 8.30 AM on a Saturday (today), meaning my Friday was totally non-existent.

Now, because I live in a small city no one cares about like 30km away from my uni there are no buses going there at this time, and so I had to ask my mum for a ride. That is not much of a problem, but this morning I overslept and didn't wake up until my mum came knocking on the door. Due to the stress that followed I managed to forget my wallet with both my ID and bus pass (which I needed to get home, had no money either), I noticed this just as I was about to go in for the exam.

I was a bit lucky as they were nice enough to believe in my story and let me write the exam without identifying myself, but during the whole thing I was quite stressed as my mum had to wait for me (no stores were open at the time, so she couldn't use the time for Christmas shopping either).

But yeah, the exam went better than expected still (I was counting on failing pretty hard though, so that might not say much. I didn't read up very well, pretty much only went to the lectures), I am now home again and I have the first free night in like a week. So many things could've gone just a bit more wrong ruined this day completely, but in the end I guess I was pretty lucky :)

Yeah, I've taken upon the unhealthy (But worth it) task of relearning human anatomy and figure drawing. I hope to learn all the bones and muscles and how they move, then move onto representing it more artistically. The book Dynamic Anatomy is really helping me with that. I brought home 14 other books on various things from "art of" books to animation technique books. I looked like an absolute idiot trying to move them out of the library. I just hope I don't procrastinate and forget to actually make use of them.

At 12/19/09 10:47 AM, zrb wrote: Can anyone explain what the difference between Number, int and uint is ?

Number is a "double" data type which means it is a floating point number. Int is an integer, it has to be a whole number. It is signed which means you can have - and + values, whereas a uint is an unsigned int which means it has no sign, you can only store plus values - this means it can use the last bit (which is used in signed variables for the sign) to store even larger numbers.

Saw Avatar, and I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. The effects were pretty ridiculous. Landscapes and ships were truly superior. I'm still not a huge fan of the blue people. Though the motion capture was pretty damn good, it's just not that interesting of a model. Kind of cartoonish. The usual James Cameron heavy handedness was quite pervasive with respect to the plot, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. Politically I found it oddly relevant (terrorism and climate change being proxy issues).

Still it was the perfect thing to see on a Friday night, after smoking a ripping spliff, and chugging a magnum of wine to the head. Everything was so pretty and florescent. :D

I would definitely add links in, especially for games. If games go viral across lots of different Flash game websites, you'll be getting a lot more hits than you did before, forever.

PROGRAMING (Holy fucking shit)

I have really started to consider the idea of swallowing my pride entirely and start learning ActionScript. No matter how much I hate it, mainly because I really want to start making games, and I've never really found anyone who would partner up with me, so yeah, if any of you AS guys know any good tutorial that can help me integrate your code society, I'd appreciate it.

God, I hate myself for this...

@zrb :O bwaha, that's useful. I've also found this (I'm using AS3)

Also, this is beautiful, I never would've thought it was possible to accelerate the timeline with AS is a particular frame, AS is beautiful, I'm sorry I ever doubted it :,). I'm not leaving animation, but damn, AS is fun...

The unwise combination of alcohol, stumble upon, weed and A Levels has ruined my ability to concentrate. It's horrible. I start reading something and I end up staring at the wall paper. I've written this so far with 3 pit stops that I did by accident. It is ruining me and I don't like it. The only time I can do anything is either at about 2-3 o clock when I'm painting something or if I'm doing a maths paper at school.

From today, I'm going to hide all my bookmarks, uninstall stumble upon, and pretty much stay away from the computer.

I'm keeping alcohol and weed though, I'm only tackling the serious addictions :P

Super Ellipses

I made this (give it a few seconds to load, I didn't realise how big the song was) the other day. It makes a differently shaped super ellipse from computeSpectrum().

FUCK YEAH SNOW

My school broke up a day earlier than everyone else's so I had a awesome day in the snow and having fake christmas at a friends house while everyone else had school like suckas. Almost broke an arm not-really-snowboarding (a skateboard with the wheels taken off on a snowy tennis court).

Painting

For about 3-4 months now I've been painting stuff. Only little things but I really like it. I haven't got any proper feedback from anyone yet, the flickr community isn't very talkative. So if anyone wants to give me some feedback I'd be very happy.

we should! Actually one of my goals next year is to give a tablet a solid chance. I do actually recommend people to switch to one if they aim to persue art on a more serious basis. Drawing with a mouse is bad for your wrist in the long run, its just not a device made for drawing even tho im all stubborn about it.
Tablet wont instantly make you a good artist of course, but once you get through that 1-2 weeks of transitioning i think you can pick up where you left off. Atleast thats what swain and other artists ive talked to have told me.

Merry Xmas

Just incase i'm not around then, been busy with A levels :).

Tablet

I'm using a graphics tablet for graphics and it gets the job done. If you do want to use a mouse i'd suggest getting something like a MS Sidewinder. It has 3 DPI settings, meaning you can set the mouse (with 1 btn) to do precise small movements or large wide brushstrokes.

What are you getting?

Probably missed this topic already, but what are you getting/want to get/buying for xmas this year?

TOP TIP : Don't go to a party, have 14 jaeger bombs, 5 beers and 8 shots and then do a Maths test the next day. I've had to abandon alchoholic fun over the holiday so i don't end up failing because everything is blurry.

Well I broke mouses like crazy, so first chance I got, I bought a wacom small with my money from my short lived employeeship at the local grocery store.

WHAT AM I GETTING FOR CHRISTMAS?

probably nothing

now for something completely different.

on another note, this kind of bothered me.
