Fitting Into The Equation
As a writer and a programmer, I find there isn't really much I can do with my talents when it comes to interactive media without an artist. That being said, how does a writer fit into the equation of interactive media? When can a writer make a legitimate claim to contributing to a project? I understand a lot of newbies around here who want to spout fanfics and claim to be a writer want to try to fill the position, but what happens when a legitimate writer wants to offer himself?
Something that I've always aspired to do was to create a flash animation series, correspondent game, and in-universe novel. A triple threat in regards to entertainment and a legitimate seed for a strong franchise. Seeing as I have the programming capabilities to see the project through in all aspects, I just need the artistic touch.
My question then is, how would a writer approach an artist and ask for such a dedication? It's difficult to get someone to agree to work on a project without full-disclosure, something a writer such as myself would be reticent to do to avoid plagarism. I've got the idea in my head and I'm about 15% done with the novel, with a projection of being completed by Q1 2010. I'm looking into taking a screenplay course next semester so I'd have that experience as well. I've got the skill to plan a game and build an engine. This is where I'm at a loss. I'm ready to do it, I just don't have anyone who wants to back me up. I need help guys. Quality help.
I just started a blog: [ http://www.totheblankpage.com ]. It contains a few of my poems and a flash fiction story. It'll be updated often and I'll be starting a short story series as soon as National Novel Writing Month is over. So, what do you guys think?
