But yeah, the main problem would be insurance on the car.

Oh. Well, if you buy a car you're gonna have a tough time ensuring it. In fact, I don't think you can. If i'm not mistaken you have to either be a citizen, or have a permanent address. There are a couple of reasons for this, but the most prominent one is that of reliability. If you have a claim, whose to say you won't go back to your home country and not pay.

I mean, that's not to say you can't do it, but I think you'll at least need a green card.

I found a great thread on it here: http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/23-transport /4383-car-travel-around-america.html
We have some relatives who would vouch for us, so i think we could do it. :)
"I can't help you with that side of things. I'd assume it's the same as anywhere else where you need an address of someone in the country to rego the car. Got any long lost relos?"

You can probably get place on a relatives insurance as an authorized driver. That way you're covered too but at your age it may cost you around $250-$350 USD per month depending on the car. I've been driving for almost 4 years now and I'm driving a 2008 Hyundai Accent and it costs me $235 USD per month with Geico, which is a relatively fair insurer.

If you have family to help you though, it shouldn't be too difficult. The hardest part is already done. The next hardest would be buying a car and the eventually selling of said car. The market over here isn't all that nice.

That's not too bad really, we will only need it one or two months.

The next hardest would be buying a car and the eventually selling of said car.

We would buy a cheapish second hand car, if no-one wants to buy it the other side, we will just scrap it :P. Thanks for the help man! :)

Where in the World?
I may as well make this a more open topic. So, as i said we are travelling.
We are buying a round the world ticket based on mileage, so basically i can go anywhere. Although i have already planned most of it, we need more stops!

Where would you suggest to go?

New-Zealand. Name something, they have it. Since it's relatively small, it's pretty easy to travel through as well. They have a few great busservices tailored for young travels and they take you to some great spots you probably would've missed if you took a normal busticket or rented a car. Seriously, go there.

Where in the World?

Heres a couple of places ive been to and liked?

I love Barcelona, in fact a lot of spain is nice. Costa del Sol is a bit touristy but if you go north a bit there are some really great cities. Granada is nice too!

Amsterdam is a beatiful city with loads to do aswell. Its so clean and the transport is amazing, plus you gotta love the liberal dutch laws. Very expensive though.

Thailand was amazing aswell, there is very much 2 worlds there however. We spent a few nights in bangkok before staying in a hut type thing on a tiny island near where they filmed "the beach". Probably 2 of the most different places ive ever been, all in the same country!

One place id love to go is Japan, kind of for similar reasons to why I liked Thailand. You have the uber hitech hussling cities, then you have the beautiful landscapes and rice fields outside of these. I realy want to go there one day :)

Where in the world?

I've got my heart set on costa rica, after seeing this. The only slight drawback is that it costs about £2000pp, so it's not a cheap holiday :P. I'd say italy, nice and sunny, not as touristy as spain and tasty food.

road trips are fun so i do hope you get around to doing it. US roads are amongst the easiest in the world to drive around in and its a really cool view from LA to vegas.. as someone mentioned before.

Vegas is literally in the middle of the desert and its such a cool view driving in .. its just darkness and then theres this wonderland of fake tits and sin.

I rented a car at age 22 from Dollar Rent-a-Car. The fees are heinous. Luckily I was only renting one day but I still got hit for a +$30 daily fee. 5 days on the road= +$150, so it's really rough especially when your daily underage fees start to exceed the amount you are renting your car for!

Also check out the laws and rules for going cross-country. Some rental places only want you to take your car to the adjacent states and no further (for example, California you are allowed to travel within California, Oregon, and Nevada).

Hi there!

Re: Where In The World?

Remember when we actually did that when we responded to a topic?

If I were to travel anywhere I dunno where I would go. There are plenty of places running through my mind but they are all cliche (hawaii, mexico, amsterdam (:P)). But just anywhere new would be cool. It would be fun to see how a different countries culture is and how everything works. I've unfortunately never been farther than Colorado and I doubt I'm going on a out-of-country vacation until I am living on my own.

The first vacation I'm going to take when I move out of my parents house is to a meet-up. True story.

Where in the World

The furthest away from Florida I've been is Washington D.C.
It's a little depressing. :[
I'm hoping to go out of country sometime soon,
I bet it feels great traveling somewhere new,
I'd imagine it to be a real... liberating feeling.

P.S. MegaCon Orlando - end of the month. I WANNA GOOO.

Where in the world

No idea where I'd want to go. I do know that after a year where I work now, I can apply to go on a mission to a foreign country (if I'm lucky, might get stuck going to a place in the US) for 2 weeks paid. I'd be there to do work, but it'd still be traveling to another country. Although, chances are it'd be a place one would normally not vacation.

i've lived in three different states, and each neighborhood appears as a wasteland, either a green jungle or a dirt patch. DO I EVEN EXIST?

I might do a pico day thing again. I quite enjoyed my 8-hour dev time of 2 years ago, that was fun.

So I'll start thinking up ideas on the 29th.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2009-02-09 19:23:10

I'll help anyone with their pico day submission. I specialize in moral support.

I expect co-author and at least 50% of the income if there's any.

An idea to improve the Flash forum?

Just an idea I got after running into someone (not pointing any fingers ;P ) with a "questionable attitude" against others here. It will fail completely if very few uses it, but it's worth a shot?

At first I found it cool.

Then I realized... Google has the resources and power to become a private army contractor, and with there streetview pictures of almost every street in the US, couldn't they use it to overthrow our government and become the G1 empire?

Young flash person
I laughed to myself when i found this photo again... anyone got any kewel old school photos of themselves... i actually used to use this picture in my professional portfolio in the about me section. it was a good conversation piece.
This photo is of particular importance because i've always hated latin/spanish stereotypes and when my dad put me on a soccer team i HATED IT. I HAIT YOU DAD.

anyway if you dont feel like exposing your youth to the internet or your parents will beat you to a pulp then ignore this.
