...moving on...

My Website, In Progress
Squee. It works... kinda. No actual parsing of the pages is taking place on the Flash front end(The XML feed for each page is simply dumped into a textfield at the moment) and the back end needs a lot of fixing. But it's stable.

Still got a billion kinks to work out, but don't mind having people comment on it now or ask questions or give feedback, as well as try it on different browsers and platforms.

Looks great so far. I suggest stopping the pipe feed when the user scrolls over it, and I like the raw xml feed - should keep that look, haha :P

It's a bit orange for my liking. That clicking noise is awful too. You should probably just start again.

I dont necessarily mind the orange, i just dont think gray and orange go that well together. Maybe the links could also be a different color.

Woohoo =] I just got my "provisional" result for the first C++ assessment and I got 70/100 - which is exactly an A. The mark may change but still, an A is very nice - that's my 2nd A (out of 2 assessments) if the mark isn't lowered at all.. 100% hit ratio ;p

I got my grade it was 95 which i think is an A but i was supposed to get more. It is really easy in my school seeing that we study it for almost a year and we got only up to for loops..

95 out of 100? That's really good ;P Mine is really easy too though we're much further than for loops.. we just finished classes and all that hoohaa (inheritance, etc) and now moving onto graphics, using the tutors not very good "gfx" library >.<

I have socks that look just like that shirt,
but you were definitely a stud. Lol.

I have a picture of me in the first grade, but,
I don't think I'd ever upload it on here.
But trust me, I was quite the stud as well.
Not as much as Rudy, though. :]

Actually, I kinda looked like a demon child...

homework problem I have:

find the probability of drawing a 7-letter word in scrabble on the first draw.

So far what I did:

*culled the list of every scrabble word down to only 7-letter ones
*removed duplicates of words (ones which can be made out of the same set of letters).
(i have that list saved as a text file)

Now I need to calculate the probability of a specific set of letters being drawn from the bag, and sum that for all words.

right now what I'm doing is:

(lets say the word is AAAAZZZ, not a real word I know)

p(A) = (9+2)/100
p(A) = (8+2)/99
p(A) = (7+2)/98
p(A) = (6+2)/97
p(Z) = (1+2)/96
p(Z) = (0+2)/95
p(Z) = (0+1)/94

and multiply those together. (2 is the number of blanks, 9 is the number of As, 1 is the number of Zs)

I think I'm missing something here, because I think what I have now is the probability of drawing those letters in that exact order, not any set of letters (for instance drawing AAZAZZA should be the same as drawing AAAAZZZ), or maybe I'm overthinking here and this doesn't matter for order?

right now it's coming out to be ~.00027, which I honestly can't really tell if it seems right or not.

At 2/11/09 12:00 AM, Glaiel-Gamer wrote: homework problem I have:

The correct method would be:

First you need to know the total number of each letter in the bag when it's full:
let that be: O(z) where z is the letter
And the total number of letters in the bag when it's full, let that be T

Then for each seven letter word you'd do the following:
let the word be as a list of letters, with the number of times they occur:

so example: {A(1), B(3), E(2), C(1)}, let that be in the form {(z0,n0), (z1,n1), (z2,n2)} for 0 to N

then the probability of drawing all those letters in any 1 of all possible orders is:

(T-7)! / T! x Prod(i=0 -> N) O(zi)! / (O(zi)-ni)!

And the number of possible unique orderings is given by:

7! / Prod(i=0->N) ni!

Soooo, for example: Imagine you have a bag of letters:

z . . a b c d e
O(z) 7 3 2 3 8
T = 7+3+2+3+8 = 21

and a seven letter word:
abbceee

The probability of drawing these letters on first go is:

7! / (1!*2!*1!*3!) * ((23-7)! / 23!) * (7! / (7-1)!) * (3! / (3-2)!) * (2! / (2-1)!) * (3! / (3-0)!) * (8! / (8-3!))
= 0.009593852102938116...

To get an exact answer, you're going to need a big-number library since in scrabble you're going to have much larger factorials to calculate, 64bit numbers aren't going to cut it:
