lol, careful guys. You can lose your ads like that.

Not can, you will :)

Not only do you loose the service when Google catches you, you loose all the money you've made to that point and are due to be paid for.

If you have to click your own ads, you're not going to make any money anyway. So, to keep this relevant to the Flash regs lounge, I'll give some tips.

If you think you're getting a good amount of visitors to your website, and they are not clicking your Google ads, then you might be better off going with a company like http://www.interclick.com who supplies pay per thousand ads instead of pay per click. There's many other pay per thousand sites, but that's just a good one I know of that for instance Afro-Ninja uses.

Sometimes a combination of pay per click and pay per thousand works really well.

Just a suggestion.

i dont want to be a haggle, but luis didn't want this to be a beta testing thread, or game idea thread, or anything like that.

itd be nice to make a game thats 3d but everything is drawn 2d and goes to a different frame for every point of view.

It's just another method. You can't compare 2d with 3d and it's certainly wrong to think of 2d as having a higher artistic value than 3d. This is the 21st century and it demands a digital artist to be flexible and have a well rounded portion of software knowledge. Computers aren't made for an artist to pick 1 favorite piece of software and use it as a sacred entity. Computers offer people a whole range of possibilities and the more a digital artists knows, the stronger his art will be. Photoshop, flash, maya are all interesting on their own, but when you combine their qualities the most amazing stuff can be made. I think it's strange anyway, when people think of work in 3d as having no feeling or emotion, when in the end, the 2d vector/pixel work consists likewise out of 1's and 0's also. It's just as perfect as polygons/nurbs.
The only alternative is working in the traditional sense, such as paint and canvas or sculpturing. But every 'digital artist' should embrace and explore all the wonderful possibilities a computer has to offer in order to really earn that title.

Thanks AITD. That about sums up my thoughts on the topic.

I'd also like to state that I believe an artist shouldn't be defined by thier medium or by thier expression of talent, but to be judged by the drive and effort they put into it. Of course it helps if they can draw like da Vinci, but effort is it's own merit. Whether someone works completely in 2D, or in 3D, or recycles photos, computer game sprites, or uses a video camera for thier expression is irrelevant

Naturally, a lot of it doesn't belong on a site that tries to showcase Flash content, but everything belongs somewhere.

I've had 799 page impressions since LFYF started on the 17th of September, and 2-3% of those have been clicked. I was considering moving from Google but I don't have that many hits yet.

Are any of you ever short of ideas???

I hear of alot of lower level animators/programmers having a loss of ideas, but what about some of you more skilled and seasoned animators and programmers. Like Luis or Gliael.

And most importantly, how do you get around it? Do you just wait for it, or do you do something that kinda gets the ball rolling.

i ussually wait for it to come...so i can go a month without really working on anything important.

Thats evident from the reems of "need an idea" "animator here" threads on the flash forum lol...

but what about some of you more skilled and seasoned animators and programmers

Well i doubt i count as skilled or seasoned, but what the hell lol.

And most importantly, how do you get around it? Do you just wait for it, or do you do something that kinda gets the ball rolling.

I tend to watch cartoons on NG, or tv, or do something for inspiration. Also, i get a lot of scripting ideas etc from funny converations with friends. Ideas for games/movies strike at the strangest times...

Yah, thats pretty much where that came from. i see lots of those around.

Well i doubt i count as skilled or seasoned, but what the hell lol.

meh. i geuss i should not have just narrowed it so much.

I tend to watch cartoons on NG, or tv, or do something for inspiration. Also, i get a lot of scripting ideas etc from funny converations with friends. Ideas for games/movies strike at the strangest times...

My proplem is, if i look at things like TV or newgrounds for ideas, my ideas get mixed with alot of other ideas that i happened to see, kinda destroying my origonality. Im geussing it works for some though.

and as for convorsations with friends, to many of the jokes seem to be situational, the kinda where you had to be there for it to be funny.

Thats also good method lol :P

well...i get it eventually. lol.

Yah that's not many visitors. Wait until you get some more visitors because that click thru rate is very good and you might make some more money.

Oy gevalt. I don't think you understand. Google looks at trends. When they look at your earnings, they are going to see that your visitors did not spike, but your earnings did. That shows them there was fraudulent clicking. And if you were clicking, that's even easier to spot.

When it's time for them to pay you, they are probably going to look at your account and not pay up.

Google is a tough seller.

My ads were shut down after some kid clicked my ads over and over again, which was completely out of my control. It took me 3 months to return my service, losing all my profits in the mean time. Horrible way to run a service.

I have Yahoo now, and I love their Terms of Service and their payouts... it adds up to a lot more in the end, and they are always throwing in quick $100-200 perks (like showing up to a meeting with lunch provided for a couple hours). I love their beta program.

i havge an idea for a game. its supposed to help people draw, well not really help them draw, but help them make lines easily.

like theres a set of points, and you've got to draw a single line through each point. and it gets harder and harder each time. your judged on accuracy and time.

right now this seems kinda meh to me. but its easy to make. im just wondering if it'll accually help people.

If people actually commit to that, I think it would actually be a good game. I could've sworn I've played something like it before... Anyways...

When the levels get harder, put in more points, that'll definately get them working hard. Good Luck!

But, you can make it bigger, better, faster, and stronger. Right?

:D

It's not a lost concept, and I'm pretty sure I've played ANOTHER version of that game, but seriously, go for it. If it's not for real, just do it for experience. Good luck ^_^

thats the thing, it would have been pretty easy to make. all m,y current projects require either tons and tons of simple scripts or really complex stuff that ive never done before. this would've been a break. and the main reason i was doingthiswas to make a tool for animators to practice. his covers that, so theres no reason

although i did have a few differences in mind its still the same damn game

Well Glaiel and Kenney have made games that involve making a path for something to walk across and avoid obstacles.

But then again, his isnt judged on accuracy. Just time. I think it would be a nice idea IB.

Heh, maybe a mouse avoider but instead of a mouse, you need to guide a little guy through the maze with the arrow keys.

That's been done before, hasn't it?

I'm not an "ideas" guy :D

I can't link it, but when i wrote that, I remembered this game where you controlled a ball that could get upgrades and stuff to get bigger, or reduce gravity for an easier trip, btu maybe that was controlled with a mouse.

Who knows? Maybe I just thought up the newest fad of avoider games xD
