ARTISTS WANTED
Hey guys, here's the deal. Icepyro and I have been working on a... how do i put this...
WERE MAKING A FAG!
F-ucking
A-wesome
G-ame
We've been trying to motor this thing but its actually going super incredibly slowly, were shooting for a 30+ hour game here, classic RPG like the good ol' days of FF6 and stuff. But the art workload is immense beyond belief.
If anyone should be interested to join up and help out in this amazing project, you'll have some damn good times making this, and share our epic dream of porting it to consoles. (of course this is inspired by Alien Hominid, and who doesn't like a good goal in mind :P)
So yeah... PM ME SAYING YOU WANT TO HELLP!!!
Toodles <3

Just so everyone knows, for those who help, there WILL be money in it for you at the end!
Since we already see the world in three dimensions, I started wearing 3-D glasses around so that I could see things in 6-D... The sixth dimension is blurry and discolored.

Not to be a debbie-downer, but you got a couple things working against you here. First: is the story all thought out? You don't want to dedicate artists to creating assets that will never appear in the game. It's a waste of time and money. Second: if you're really aiming to port this to consoles, please realize that 2D RPG games are on a decline. Not even established games like the Ys series have been able to change this. So I'd imagine you may have to stick to a handheld, so now your target audience is changing as well. Just thought i'd spice things up with a bit of reality, sorry if I'm impeding on your merriment!

1. Story: Yeah its got a few kinks but overall its down well, our main goal is to try and make a classic 2D RPG like the ones that we loved so long ago, they're on a decline because nobody's making them as 3D is like woaaahhhhh 3D!!!
2. Yeah we were thinking it had more of a chance on handhelds too, first priority is making the game, then we'll figure out what to do with it after XD

Exactly. RPG players typically want the best possible immersion, and what's better than semi-photo-realistic graphics? It's easier to relate to polygons than pixels. And if you need any assistance tinkering with the story, please let me know. I'd be very willing to lend my professional experience, as well as my opinion as a gamer and RPG fanatic.

Touche! Well, if you need help programming the engine, please let me know as I'm...
Learning AS3
So it's a lot harder than I thought. Granted I'm trying to learn at 4:30 in the morning with a shit load of cough syrup in my belly (marked drowsiness indeed occurring). Anyway, it's coming along nicely. My goal is to get an interactive Gallery done for photo browsing and video viewing. Once that's done I'm gonna try to make a chat system incorporating AIR. Exciting stuff :)

Those huts look remarkably like you've created them through trace-bitmap, rather than drawing them. I have nothing against that, though I suggest that you add a few more different colours to the roof.

It was Depredations music game that sparked my interest, since he uses loading in that so I looked it up and it's really quite easy. I'm currently adding a few small features to the flash so you can load an image and mess with it a bit (dodge, burn, pixelate, mess with the colours, whatever I can be bothered to) or else it'll just be loading and saving the same bitmap which is no fun :)
Yeah it's damn good, it was supposed to be a cs3 feature but got bumped back to cs4, but then it didn't work properly in cs4 so it just got added a month or 2 ago :P.
Thisis what started me off, although i had to do a lot to get it to work with mp3s. You could pretty much make an entire photoshopping suite though, and people would be able to save/load files easily, especially if you used air or flex.

Hmm I heard a lot of people didn't like CS4. Was this just random rumours or is there some truth to this?
Hi Mwmike good to see you still around.
Hmm I started playing a game called cybernations about 80 days ago. I find it fairly entertaining. We should make a newgrounds alliance in it! :D

I checked out the demo a few weeks ago, and I actually quite liked it. The layout took a while to get used to, though a lot of the features were very nice. That reminds me that I've got to start learning AS3; though I haven't really been spending too much time with Flash recently, and learning a new language might be a good kick to get me started again.

I have now acquired an immediate love for CS4.
what
I just realized that today is my NG account's fourth birthday.
I feel old :P

It's not the biggest update ever, but it does fix a lot of long term problems that flash had. The layout is much better, the auto-complete code has been changed so it only shows as3/as2 syntax. If you've not got cs3, i recommend it, if you have, try the trial.
Oh, and there are a lot of code tweaks to open things up.
Audio
So do you guys spend ages looking for the right loop for your games or create your own?
I just got my first loop accepted, but god when i keep exporting this game, the music annoys the crap out of me now (':

Lol, last year I got an FL Studio trial, and i made a really crappy House loop.
Since I submitted it I've been permanently banned from the audio portal.
I asked an audio mod, and he said it was because I used the default loops that
FL Studio offers. I thought it would be OK, considering all the other songs
existing on the portal using them, but I guess not.
I shouldn't be on here, I really need to be working on my game.
I need some inspiration... suggestions anybody?

Eat a cheese and pickle sandwich.
I always lose inspiration on games ): Im like, level design will be easy - I get to it and I just get bored
Question:
Do I get double points for having a Cloud cloud??
At 2/7/09 12:11 PM, Saza wrote: Eat a cheese and pickle sandwich.
Hmm, I'll go try that.
I'll include a heaping glass of Kool-Aid to go with it...
That usually works. :3

lol, i don't know if to take that as a compliment or not :P, but i drew that my self 100% freehand-awesomeness.
a couple more colors couldn't hurt.

FF Collabs
OK, hai guyz i iz new here (only vaguely active still, but now have a 6Mb ADSL conn and am going to be getting more active if I can spare the time), but there seems to be an overpowering number of Collab threads on the first page of the Flash forum. Is it time to have a clampdown again (long term regs will remember), or is it all cool?
I guess I should ask Tom for my BBS mod privileges back before too long
BTW thanks liiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaam for the warm welcome back. Old man indeed. I'll whup you with mah walking stick, you little whippersnapper
FF Collabs
While I think the BA limit cannot realistically be increased, I think what needs to be tightened up is the theme limitations.
There are so many stupid themes for collabs. I think having to have been in a collab, as well as having released a solo project with a minimum score of 3.0, should be requirements. The collab system is feeding itself right now. Kids join 3 collabs which usually result in a BA of about 3.5 - 3.8 and then start making collabs themselves.
Also, another requirement could be you can't start another collab if you have any previously opened collabs within the past 6 months. This should motivate people to make sure their collabs get finished.
At 2/7/09 01:43 PM, Denvish wrote: Is it time to have a clampdown again (long term regs will remember), or is it all cool?
Dunno if you saw, but we raised the minimum BA to 3.5. I'm not sure raising it again would do any good or how we could clamp down further than just banning collab threads out right.
I should ask Tom for my BBS mod privileges back before too long
Do it.

Its not so much that he used "trace-bitmap" as much as he just traced a bitmap... HEYOOOOO!!!!
Well, not "Traced" But more like "inspired by" some other house from another game, not traced tho :P

Good to see you back, we pretty much all agree about the collabs, so go for it.
I think that there just needs to be less concrete enforcement of the collab rules, and more subjectiveness on the side of the mods. It's really easy to bend the rules to fit the minimum requirements, even though stuff like "naruto collab 14 tribute" technically fits within the collab rules, its probably not a good idea to keep it open.
As was before, we just need to continue redirecting people to ngcollabs, as it might do well to raise that site from the dead.

Welcome back, wise one :)
And yes the flash forum does need a clampdown in the collab.. area.. but Luis is too soft on them. I think he likes the company.
Sup, bitches :)

soo yea, I was browsing the interwebs one day, and somehow I found a blog made by some kid, and on it he drew out a mind blowing idea for a game, by far the greatest iv seen yet...
here was his sketch..
