Sorry to double post, but did anyone see Tom's news post?
He always links to some good stuff (homogeneous matrices, lol), but I really liked this one.
I won't spoil it for anyone...

Youtube is the worst thing on the internet and is offensive to anyone with more two brain cells.

Yeah I kind of brushed it off when I saw the news post, but that has got to be some of the most inspiring shit I've ever seen. Really a "life changing" type of thing, I mean this is a guy who's seen it all and the one thing that CAN get you noticed is just taking some self-initiative. What's so cool about it though is while we might not be physically sitting next to each other, a good chunk of people from NG are doing just what he said as we speak.
always behind schedule.

I agree... i also think what he says can go beyond just the animation scene... i think people who make games could benefit from his advice.. quit worrying about who will sponsor your shit or how you will split it or all that other shit... get together with someone and just MAKE something... the money will come to you as a bi-product..dont let that be this giant hurdle that leaves really inspiring (possibly very profitable) games in the black hole of inactivity.

Looks pretty good, what is it, a platformer or a puzzle game or what?
Wow, just noticed fate and a full moon has a score of 4.01! My first submission to get over 4 :)

Congrats, it deserves that score :)
Wall-E
I watched Wall-E yesterday night and absolutely loved it, not so much because how awesome it looks, but rather because of the superb animation and the personality they've given to each and every of the characters. It's not easy to give a non-living object such as a robot a personality and they pulled it off perfectly. 9/10.
Making Games vs. Animating
I've been working on a very very small game (my first) the last two weeks and I think I like doing that more than I like animating. When you make a game you see the fruits of your labour sooner than when you're animating something. You can build games in little components, and after each little component you've finished you can see what it does, it doesn't take weeks of work to see a few seconds of stuff moving around. I also like the feeling of fixing a problem, it's gives me lot's of satisfaction. As I'm doing everything for the game (coding, art, music) you can also easily switch to doing something else when you get tired of, say, writing lines and lines of code or animating walk cycles. It doesn't get boring as quickly as animating a movie, IMO.
Stripe Generator
For those of you who spend a lot of time tediosly drawing lines for backgrounds and textures, look no further :) I'm not sure if your aware of it already but it's a very useful tool that deserves to be shared.

Cheers man!
Is anyone else really looking forward to rtils next installment of his Project Freetown series? Ive just been looking at all his concept art on his website, some of it is beautiful, especially the morning to night cycle. I loved the first one and cant wait to see what the actual story and characters are like!
How come he doesnt post in here?

It's an acquired taste roaming these forums. Most animators I talk to find you all much too immature to mingle with :)
I shouldnt talk i guess I'm juts as guilty as anyone else.
Anywho I'm glad rtil is back to animating his own shit... dare I say that I feel like the whole video game parodying is beginning to quiet down again *gasp*

Double post. I like his series although I'm tentative to call it a series yet, the first one was much to short to really get comfortable with it to the degree of what is considered to be a series calibre episode. I hope he is approaching it the way Leafworthy is, where the first episode is not concerned about building upon anything but more or less just giving you a blunt intro and then using the second episode to reach back around and give it a more calculated pace at char. dev and all that.

Just? :P
I just realized something - isn't it a bit weird that my flash JuicePlz got 150k views, and a few months after it got taken off frontpage and all that stuff it ended up with ~90k views? i wonder where all those views came from. Also, i checked other flashes that have the same amount of views and they all got like 2,000 reviews, while juiceplz only got 93 :s I also found loads of other great flashes with a 4.3 + score that didn't even get a quarter of the views i got.

Somebody fell asleep with their head on the F5 key while playing your game.

Yeah the only reason I really referred to it ass a series is because he does that himself... itll certainly be interesting to see how he expands it, he said himself that Metropolis Circuit was just an intro, the next movie will see the actual start of the story!
Actually it's 150k uniques.. and i keep on getting like 500 new every month. i have no idea where they're coming from

There'll always be some background views creeping in. Usually they're negligible compared to the initial release spike.
You also get spikes when your game gets hosted (or stolen) by a popular site, or featured on a review or blog site (I've had to upgrade my site's monthly bandwidth twice lately after some such spikes). There are lots of little things which can boost your views.
At 8/3/08 11:29 AM, Toast wrote: Actually it's 150k uniques..
How can you know that? The view counter on NG isn't counting unique hits, is it..?
What sources did you use (as a programmer or an animator) when you started learning flash?
I used Kirupa, Flash MX 2004 Bible, and Beginning Flash/Game Programming for Dummies by Andy Harris

<?php
while(2 > 1){
file_get_contents("FLASHURLHERE");
echo "+1";
}
?>
ps: it will fuck up probably.
What's with the comparison? Just:
while(true)
Or:
while(1)
Will suffice.
It's a pointless gesture, anyway. You're just fucking up your own statistics.
Well...if we're talking about fucked up statistics and view count...
On the rtil's next Project Freeway [or w/e it's called], I'm glad he's continuing with it, because although the first one was short, you saw that there was potential, especially with him animating. I'm also glad the damn video game craze is dying down, it's starting to bug me.

I wouldn't do that. It would probably fuck up your flash ads and its just...not fun? I mean, part of the fun of making stuff is seeing how good it will do when you submit it. If you mess up your own stats your not going to be able to see how it really did. Its like cheating in a video game, sure you can get all the cars/weapons/money/whatever but it kinda ruins the game doesn't it?
I'm pretty sure none of the people here in the reg lounge would do this, but if anyone is thinking about it, I would say you probably shouldn't

Seconded, if I did that I'd just feel crap when I submitted it, it's just cheating. Anyway, Score > Views - well, for animations anyway.

Why do I have the sudden urge to sit in a garage and eat crap for a year while animating a film?
