Flash Stumbles

Wow, I feel like a complete n00b.

Yesterday was the first day I've touched flash in I don't know how long. And I'm completely frustrated at how much I forgot. Hell I'm just trying to make an intro to something and I can't even figure out how to get some text to fade in. At one point I tried manually adjusting the Opacity of the letters FBF.

I feel so lost, I can remember simple things like tweens, variables, library, MC's, etc, but I completely forgot all the little tricks I used to know to make animating a bit easier.

I know it's kind of frowned upon linking to 4chan, especially /b/, but this is too hilarious too pass up. I've always found inanimate objects with faces to be pretty hilarious at times, but some of these are the best i've ever seen - prepare to lol if you like this kinda stuff.

Damn, nobody looked at it in time and it got pushed into deletion after the mysterious 10th page...a shame too, it was really a good one.

Some were funny, like there was a washer/dryer, a hand iron, and a toilet. But its not really my thing.

Alright, maybe I'm just blind or something.. but I made use of the NG API for my latest game and I simply can't find the stats for the custom events and referrals :/ Is this yet to be added?

Hehe :) A "major update" is apparently being installed right now, maybe that includes these stats (although that message has been there for at least two days now, who knows when it will be finished..).

Should we just make a 'Show what you're working on thread' or something, since it always arises, and if it's not, people are asking to see previews of other people's games. It beats the jackasses who come in with their 'BIG GAMES' and make threads about them.........

Can anyone tell me if they're getting any lag? I haven't gotten any yet, but if you do get some, I'll take the guess it's the green background, since that hasn't been attached by using a Bitmap and I just kind of drew it in...

I'm getting a bit of lag but im on a laptop. you can post it in the showcase thread so ppl will give you ideas for the game

Tom had mentioned this idea not long ago and i thought itd be neat to try it at some point this summer... basically its a collaborative game thing where all the tasks are really defined and everyone just works towards clearing a single task. For instance we'd like pop over to the art forum and find someone to create the concept of the game character(s) then we'd find someone different who'd animate the main spriteset... we'd find someone different to animate the enemy sprites... we'd find someone different to punch up the game doc, someone different to be code monkey.. etc

The idea is that you are always being steered by someone elses vision.. your role is like directly influenced by someone elses role and their role is influenced by someone elses... so in the end you have a project that is truly collaborative because nobody was really allowed to be dictator. meh i dunno

I don't exactly get how it works. Do you mean you come up with the game idea but you don't say what the art should look like and everything, so you come up with a really weird idea where everything is everyone's choice, or do you mean like you start, then pass it on to the next person, and you keep passing it on?

I mean like someone who really has a vague idea of a game pitches it ... his role is to just steer the game idea, he has no say as to what the character would be or whatever.. hes just a top level visionary.. then to compliment the vision you have the guy who matches what his interpretation of the vision of the first guy in visual form. then you have someone else who takes that image and then breathes life to it with a spriteset.. and so on.. its not really a forum collaboration because it would get sloppy with so many coders but itd be a game where people only need to committ to like really small chunks as opposed to laboring over huge collections of spritesets or having to figure everything out... like the coder would be someone who just likes to code... im just thinking out loud atm, i dont know if it would actually be something feesible. Ive been working on
this today. Just a simple game where you run along an endless level and shoot sheep and get upgrades and stuff! That was the first thing ive done for it, just trying to get the style right.

Also been doing some art for a simple defense game engine chaz sent me. The man is still chaz' placeholder art... I dunno what to have defending the egg!

man I need to redo that background, i was way too stoned when i drew that...
