pewp.

Actually no they wouldn't. Like someone else stated we are now going to see omg look at wades new blog or omg look at toms etc to anyone else who has a giant E-penis. I am just trying to make sure this doesn't happen.

That's what the mods are here for, to help clean up.

Remember all those 'omg read this funny PM i got lolololol' or 'Attn: so and so: check ur PMs' topics we had that were swiftly locked/deleted?

Yeah.

You make excellent points, but considering the length of the post, people may just skim it. But, I could be jumping to conclusions.

As for all the updates, people are afraid of change sometimes. They are so comfortable with what they have, they are afraid to lose it. Also, all the updates you're doing take a lot of effort. I think I remember you guys saying you've been planning this for a year now. You must have worked your heart out and put your blood and sweat into it. You're doing a hell of a lot better jobs than probably any of us here, and some don't realize that.

The plan isn't for a bunch of 13 year olds to be faggoting up their pages with 20 YouTube videos and obnoxious background wallpapers, the plan is to offer a greater variety of representation on NG. With the virtually unlimited amount of content on Newgrounds, a lot of submissions fall through the cracks. We need more venues for content to be discovered and discussed, and for artists to nurture a fanbase.

What will this new "personal feature" thing be like? Will it be like a NG exclusive DeviantART? And will it completely replace the profile window?
Of course, if you want to keep all that stuff under wraps, be my guest. ;)

For the record, I'm not trying to start wars, but there's a great deal of miscommunication stemming from various points on the map. First of all, I'm not expecting people to look forward to new features, nor do I get angry when people's dicks aren't hard over new additions. I'm fully aware that people are uncomfortable with change. I simply want people to enjoy Newgrounds. ALWAYS. That's it. People spend far too much time singling out individual subsections of NG to rip apart, and not enough time enjoying NG as a whole.

Just keep in mind that any new features we might add will not change the NG people enjoy visiting, and if anything, might just make it better for a few people. If updating your user page is an annoyance, don't do it! Enjoy the NG you always have and everything will be peaches.

See when you sell it like it sounds good. If we knew more about what was planned we probably we see the good in it. When we hear the word "blog" second hand in an email, it's only natural we'd assume the worst.

For the record: I am very excited to see how the site looks when it's been prettified.

Moreso, I'm really lookng forward to seeing how much smoother things run with the back end overhaul.

Thanks guys, for all the hard work you put in towards making NG a fun place for the masses. :)

Dammit, I keep posting, only to find Stamper already said stuff.

Here's another way to look at it. We aren't giving users BLOGS, we are giving users the same thing I have always had on the front page. Back then it wasn't called a BLOG, it was called posting on the front page. The term BLOG was created by stupid people who needed to feel like they were part of a movement, when all they were doing was posting on the internet, just like everyone had been from the moment the internet was created.

So now everyone will get their own front page to post on and their own content to showcase. We won't call them blogs if the word bothers people too much.

People seem scared about NG turning into some social networking site, but NG has always been a social networking site. Before Myspace and Friendster reared their ugly heads, NG had user accounts, forums, chat, webcams, profiles with pictures, a buddy list system for multi-author submissions.

Hell, we had a user search where you could search NG for female users between the ages 18-24 who had profile pictures. The only reason that feature is gone is because our database couldn't support all the searches, but that doesn't mean it won't come back some day - and when it does I'm sure people will compare it to Myspace, even though Myspace didn't exist back when we were originally doing it.

So bottom line, if you are afraid of the new features, simply don't use them. The rest of NG will still be here and the front page will always be full of Flash submissions (and some audio submissions too).

I don't get why people are afraid of change?

If Newgrounds always listened to what everyone said, then Tom would still be handpicking Portal submissions instead of the automated Portal.

Face it, the Internet is still fairly new. It's still growing and Newgrounds has to grow with it. No matter the consequences.

Now who's with me?

I dont see it as that bad

itll be nice that authors get a page for themselves..so when you look for certain author you wont have to have a million browser pages open or use the searchbar..wich authors cant customize...as for blogs..i have never find them a real use..but well...as long as ng doesnt transform onto a new deviantart..coz i cant see the use of da unless you are looking for -certain- artistits ok..as a big profile page...and for the emos...i dont think they have the guts to register in here..and if they do theyll be kicked out...i dont have much to show so i dont mind if userpages are only for people with big BA..or if they are for level 15s(wich will make luis start to vote) or stuff..its a big change for the ng community...and all those 'girl broke up with me threads' will become blog entries that noone will ever see...

lets just wait and see what happens..and if nobody likes it..we can get the hell outta here and force tom remove it ;)

I'm with you, even though I've been there for a short time, the few changes I've seen have been good. The only change I didn't like was the fact that when you vote in an under judgment movie you can't see the current score. Anyway I understand the reasons.

I think we need changes. Besides of all that cool new level stuff, we should get a better BBS search system, and...you know, all the stuff we've been asking for ages.

I wouldn't mind a blog system, or however you want to call that. Ng members aren't very connected, the PM system is too individual, even though I find it a great feature. We are pretty good at that topic right now, but new additions are always appreciated.

And, if you aren't going to like the new blog system, shut the fuck and don't use it. Simple as that.

Even more, if the thing ends up being a complete shit (I'm sure it won't be like that anyway), Tom and the admins will change it again. There are always a way to get back...but it should only be used i extremely necessary.

Open you mind, damnit.

Heck I been through change on this site before, always seemed to survive it.

So I may miss out on being level 25. Or I may not if things get delayed :)

This sounds awesome.

First of all, the blog-like feature sounds very cool.

Personally, I have a HUGE vendetta against MySpace, and I despise it. It's complete garbage. Like Tom said, it's bunch of kids who make themselves 17 so they can have their picture show up and try to get as many e-friends as they can. Then they put a crazy background so none of the content can be read. If anyone ever catches be making a MySpace I ask them to kill me.

Now this Newgrounds one is better. I enjoy making Flashes, and would DEFINITELY use it. It would kind of be like my "MySpace" without having to make a shitty MySpace. It's going to be awesome.

BUT PLEASE, DO NOT do the batting average thing. It's BS. I shouldn't be denied the right to make one of them on this account, or my company account (orangefoxgames) because someone with a high voting power has taken it upon themselves to downvote my entries every day.

At least make the criteria something like 2 daily prizes, or something of that sort. But again, do NOT do it based on batting average. Nothing on this site should be based on batting average except batting average itself. It's too easy, like someone is doing to me now, to vote someones batting average down every day.

But seriously, if this thing is good, I think it'll take off. It should be content based rather than crazy "Social" based like MySpace.

But anyway, I can't wait!
