Holy shit, you're all fighting over names now.

You're always fighting over something about Newgrounds! Whether it's the Angry Face, or the layout, or something so minor that it's not even worth mentioning.

It's not even worth it.

I'm glad you did this though, I hated the - and the __ names.

I have been changing their names, adding numbers to the end... But I should really just delete them and clean things up. :)

Any accounts that are inactive for over a year (the really crappy accounts) should be auto-deleted.

Hey Tom, did you miss my PM? If so, then it was about if my alias Bahamut- (an alt is holding it right now) could be changed to Bahamut. If so, then I'd be very happy :)

Oh yeah, I forgot that you could change your own name with the confusion of Tom deleting other users to make room for users who need legitimate names. :P

You're really keeping on the ball with the username thing. It took not even 5 minutes for the alias switch.

Thanks!

Hmm, then will ultimately will this lead to the cleaning up of NG members. Like after 3 months if the person doesn't sign in they're listed as inactive. Or, if they are inactive after a year, they lose the rights to their name and it's up for grab and their name is replaced with a number starting at 0000001 and then so on and so fourth. It would be alot of work but I think it would be awesome to see all the actual active members there are on NG and not just alts and inactives.

Response to New Username Standards 2006-09-09 15:00:40

When I first joined ng, my solution was to put 1337 in my name :P. Then I got used to it, and a lot of people know me as 'ch33ks'. So I just kept it XD. I think this is a good idea, but It would be even better if the inactive members who stole our names were deleted. Or are the names just disabled?

_ is so much better than - though :(
wonder how long it'l take for people to over use the other characters at the start and end of their user names...

God has been requested a few times, I have decided not to release it. It's too powerful a name for any mere mortal.

Jesus-Christ did manage to get Jesus, though.

The requests are a constant stream... It will be interesting to query the DB tonight and see how many names are now valid. Before making the change, here is what we were up against:

74: users with --
156: users with __
1176: users that start with -
1251: users that end with -
528: users that start with _
738: users that end with _
187,142: users with _

The underscore is the real killer... If we only had to remove leading and trailing dashes, this would be much easier. :)

So why can't you just remove the dashes? What did underscores ever do to you?
