So far Tom has a pretty good record with changing NG. The first layout change was awesome, the second one was awesome aswell.

No no. He means for everyone. The larger the front page is, the more bandwidth and server resources it uses to send it to the browser.
He doesn't want the front page to be slow loading for all users, which it can become with too many things on it.

But think about it. The average Flash file on this site is like 3mb. That takes FOREVER to load on dial up. It's almost not logical to fit this site for dial up users.

Alot of people still use 56 k infact its above 50+ from what i heard not based on ng users but people who use net in general, there is about 1 computer to a houshold these days not all but some, and not everyone can pay the extra few bucks nor do they wish to for better speed, it really depends on there income and if they really need faster connections...
